Biography[edit]

Before Finding the Guardian[edit]

Not much is known about Ghost prior to him finding the Guardian, save for him later remembering that he once met Saint-14 prior to his disappearance in the Infinite Forest, and had hoped his Guardian would turn out like him.[1]

Finding the Guardian[edit]

Centuries after the collapse, Ghost began scouring the Cosmodrome of Old Russia, searching every stasis pod among the ruined colony ships for his Guardian around the same time that Fallen scavengers began to establish themselves in the shipyard.[2] At one point, he found a Guardian sealed in a stasis pod onboard the Exodus White who refused to leave and remained in the pod.[3] Months later, Ghost found his Guardian right outside the Gateway of the Cosmodrome, resurrecting them just as a band of Fallen begin encroaching on their position. Ghost leads the Guardian through The Wall in search of a Jumpship before helping them return to the Last City.[4] At the Tower the Guardian is acquainted with the merchants and Guardians who reside there. The Guardian then returns to the Cosmodrome to find a Warp Drive which will allow them to join the fight beyond Earth. After finding one in Fallen hands, the Guardian defeats the Devil's Archon and gains an audience with the Speaker who confides in them that the Darkness is returning. Wanting to help, the Guardian is tasked to join the other Guardians in pushing back the Darkness until a cure for the Traveler can be found.[5]

The Guardian ventures back to the Cosmodrome at the request of the Speaker who wants to know what the Fallen are protecting in the old Skywatch, but after infiltrating the Lunar Complex, the Guardian quickly discovers the Hive locked within before confronting the Wizard Gotra.[6]

Soon after, the Vanguard reports Fallen crews tearing into machines all over the Cosmodrome. Convinced they are not just looting, Ghost prompts the Guardian to investigate. The Guardian discovers the Warmind Rasputin survived the Collapse and is keeping the Fallen from accessing the Array.[7] To raise this array, the Guardian tracks down access codes held by members of a lost Dead Orbit team. After fighting off the Hive, the Guardian reactivates the Array and Rasputin swiftly takes control, connecting with defense constructs across the system.[8]

On the Moon, the Guardian picks up the trail of another Guardian who went dark searching for a way into the Hive Fortress. After hacking a Golden Age colony base, the Guardian travels to the Temple of Crota where they fight off Exiled Fallen as well as Hive forces led by Vurok, Eir Spawn. Unable to save the Guardian, Ghost recovers his Ghost's memories and learns that the Hive are raising an army to invade Earth.[9]

In an attempt to uncover what the Hive are planning, the Guardian infiltrates the The World's Grave and kills Kranox, the Graven. The Guardian's Ghost then steals as much data as possible before the two return to warn the City. [10] Returning to the Moon, the Guardian infiltrates the Hellmouth once more and claims the Sword of Crota. With its makers slain, the Sword shatters.[11] While inside the Hellmouth, the Guardian follows a lead from the vanished Warlock Osiris, seeking the fabled Shrine of Oryx. After killing Frigoris, Exiled Baron and his House of Exile crew, the Guardian defeats Sardok, Eye of Oryx and destroys the Shrine.[12]

After successfully decrypting the information from the World's Grave alongside the Cryptarchs, the Speaker broadcasts an urgent transmission to all Guardians claiming that a Hive ritual is draining the Traveler's Light. The Guardian then returns once more to the Hive temple and after receiving a message from the Exo Stranger, inviting them to come find her if they are successful, kills the Siphon Witches, effectively preventing them from stealing any more of the Light.[13]

Following the Stranger's coordinates, the Guardian finally travels to Venus where they are ambushed by the evil robots known as Vex. After defeating the Vex forces in the vicinity, the Guardian meets with the Exo Stranger, who tells them that they must find the Black Garden and rip out its heart for the Traveler to heal. Before the Guardian can ask any more questions, the Exo Stranger is contacted by an unknown entity before dissolving.[14] With the only ones who know the location of the Garden being the Awoken, the Guardian seeks an audience with the Queen of the Reef and is informed that they must obtain the eye of a Vex Gate Lord to infiltrate the Black Garden. The Queen then reminds the Guardian that they owe her in exchange for her information.[15]

To find a Gate Lord, the Guardian travels to an old research station of the Ishtar Collective, and analyzes a Vex mind core, giving them vital intel on the nature of the Vex as well as the means with which to summon the Gate Lord. While at the Ishtar Academy, the Guardian kills Grayliks, Winter Baron and secures an ancient Golden Age Archive for the Cryptarchs.[16] Armed with this new intel, the Guardian reaches the Endless Steps, summoning and slaying Zydron, Gate Lord.[17] Returning to the Reef, the Guardian brings the Gate Lord's head before the Queen, who gifts its eye to them in sympathy for their Traveler. Uldren then gives them the coordinates to the Black Garden including a way to repower the Gate Lord's dead eye, which is on Meridian Bay.[18]

On Mars, the Guardian infiltrates a Cabal survey post and secures their research into the Vex Spire.[19] The Guardian clears out the Cabal occupying the ruins of Freehold and explores what remains.[20] Battling their way through the Exclusion Zone, the Guardian reaches the Garden's Spire and kills Primus Sha'aul. While en route to the Garden, the Guardian also shuts down a series of Vex gates beneath the subway tunnels of Freehold and discovers that the Vex are being summoned to protect the place where they were born.[21] Succefully recharging Zydron's Eye, the Guardian is transported to the Black Garden.[22]

Within the Black Garden, the Guardian confronts the Sol Progeny and defeats them, destroying the Black Heart, a failed replica of the Veil, in the process. Returned to Mars upon the Heart's destruction, the Guardian is summoned back to the Tower, where the Speaker gives a victory speech. Meanwhile, the Exo Stranger converses with the Guardian inside the Hangar and gifts them with her Rifle before leaving abruptly again. The Guardian then repowers their ship and takes off into orbit as they prepare for their next mission.[23]

The Dark Below[edit]

Ghost would accompany his still fledgling guardian as they sought out Eris Morn who had asked for them. Upon meeting the suspicious Hunter, she'd guide the pair to hunt down Crota, Son of Oryx's limbs as they are the keys to preparing Earth for his arrival. First they find and challenge Sardon, Fist of Crota, then repelled Omnigul, Will of Crota from corrupting Rasputin, and then kill the Wakers of Crota and destroy the crystal holding Crota's soul, denying him access to the physical world. Eris would then ask the Guardian and their ghost to destroy Omnigul, then finish off Crota for good.

Crota's mate would meet her end within the Jovian Complex and soon after Crota would meet his final end in his own Throne World at the hands of Ghost's guardian.

House of Wolves[edit]

The Queen of the Reef would send out a call for guardians to come to the Reef and heed her command. The Guardian and their ghost would answer and under the guidance of Petra Venj, would begin wiping out the House of Wolves and tracking down Skolas, Kell of Kells. Skolas would be successfully tracked and captured, with key Fallen leadership eliminated along the way. With Variks, the Loyal's oversight, Skolas would be put to death in the Prison of Elders with Ghost's guardian being the one to carry it out. The execution would be successful and the House of Wolves would be irreparably broken.

The Taken King[edit]

With the Vanguard intercepting a distress signal from the Skyburners military base on Phobos, Ghost accompanies the Guardian as they are sent to investigate. Upon arriving, at the base, Ghost remarks that the Cabal are evacuating at mass and realizes that they were engaging with enemies beyond the domain of Mars. Within the fortress as the Guardian discovers dead Cabal, Ghost question the true nature of their demise. Moreover, Eris Morn joins their comm channels at the behest of Zavala, where she begins to hear uncanny voices from the dark as the Guardian encounters strange pools of Darkness. Continuing deeper into the fortress, they encounter a projection of Oryx, the Taken King as they are assaulted by Taken, Darkness-corrupted entities bound to his will. As the Guardian discovers a hologram of a large Hive spaceship, Ghost recognizes it as the Dreadnaught from the data gathered from the World's Grave. Furthermore, after scanning further data, Ghost discloses that Primus Ta'aun had suspended all mining operations on Phobos, and that the different Cabal Legions were facing massive casualties. Despite the hordes of Taken standing in their way, Ghost evacuates the Cabal base alongside the Guardian.[24]

With Eris Morn stating that Oryx's Taken army would only continue to grow if he was not eliminated, Cayde would develop a plan to infiltrate the Dreadnaught utilizing stealth technology from Rasputin. To retrieve this technology, Ghost would travel to the Devils' Lair alongside the Guardian to retrieve this technology. As the Guardian was forced to fight through Taken forces, Ghost would reminiscent of the time that Sepiks Prime was their largest threat. Accessing a fuse box, Ghost would activate the bridge leading to the top of the lair. After the Guardian defeats an Echo of Oryx, Ghost scans the case to expose the stealth technology, allowing the Guardian to retrieve it as they prepare for the next step of their plan.[25]

Using the technology to outfit Eris' ship, the Guardian and Ghost fly towards the Dreadnaught and activate the stealth tech upon coming into close proximity with the Taken King's ship. However as the stealth tech malfunctioned and the Dreadnaught prepared to fire its weapon, Ghost would be forced to transmat himself and the Guardian unto the Dreadnaught. As the bridge leading further into the Dreadnaught vanishes, Ghost illuminates the area and allows the bridge to re-manifest. When the Guardian comes across a Worm, Ghost scans it to recall his data from the World's Grave, disclosing that the Hive ingest these Worms for the purpose of survival. Fighting their way through hordes of Hive, the Guardian disables the Dreadnaught's weapon, with Cayde then subsequently ordering them to transmat away at the hull breach. Following their arrival at the hull breach, Ghost is astonished to discover that a Skyburner’s ship has crashed into the Dreadnaught. Regardless of the enemy forces standing in their way, Ghost and the Guardian place a beacon before transmating away upon completing their mission.[26]

Following their success at disabling the Dreadnaught's weapon, Ghost joins the Guardian on their new mission as they are sent to retrieve information that the Cabal have gathered on Oryx. Penetrating into the Dantalion Exodus VI, Ghost scans a turbine on the floor and discovers that the ship still possess enough fuel to fly off the Dreadnaught. Zavala would respond to Ghost's statement by remarking that the Cabal must have turned the ship into a base of operations if it has not been detonated yet. Upon scanning another terminal, Ghost learns that the only way to reach Oryx is to go through a Rupture. Exiting the ship, Ghost and the Guardian find a Cabal detachment engaging with Taken and attempting to gain access to an empty Rupture portal. Ultimately the Cabal detachment is swiftly eliminated while Ta'aun, the Primus of the Skyburners is Taken in the process. Discovering the location of a Rupture portal frame, Ghost scans multiple Hive statues, confirming Toland's belief that the Hive use the statues to navigate Ruptures. However, a Rupture then manifests as they are quickly ambushed by Hive. After the Guardian defeats an Echo of Oryx, Eris realizes that only Ascendant Hive can travel across Ruptures, making Ghost question how they will reach the Taken King. Eris Morn would respond to his question by declaring that the Guardian can only enter Ruptures by becoming Ascendant.[27]

Returning to the Hellmouth, Ghost and the Guardian would be sent by Eris to complete the first step to becoming Ascendant by retrieving a piece of the crystal that contained Crota's soul. Moreover, Eris would also give them access to Toland's journal to assist them in their journey. After quickly reading through the journal, Ghost would play an excerpt where Toland detailed the Dreadnaught's ability to shield the Hive from the Traveler's Light, with Ghost remarking that the exiled Warlock was tedious. Eventually, Ghost and the Guardian return to the Chamber of Night where they confront Baxx, the Gravekeeper. Ultimately as Baxx is on the verge of defeat, the Ogre is Taken by Oryx and transported away, allowing them to retrieve a shard of the crystal. However, Ghost loses contact with Eris and Cayde as their presence within the Hellmouth is discovered by Oryx, who sends his Taken forces led by the newly-Taken Baxx to vanquish them. Understanding this was a battle they could not win, Ghost and the Guardian retreat further up the Hellmouth. As the Guardian comes into contact with a locked, Ghost plays excerpts of Toland, allowing them to unlock the different doors and ultimately escape the Hellmouth.[28]

Understanding they must obtain stealth tech to get past the Taken, Ghost and the Guardian infiltrate Rasputin's bunker and steal the technology they require.[29] They then return to the depths of the Hellmouth to infiltrate Crota's throne world and retrieve his essence to become Ascendant. Upon arriving into Crota's throne world, Ghost applies the Guardian's stealth technology as they traverse towards the Eater of Hope's tomb where the Deathsingers are seen preparing his soul for the next realm. Although the Guardian would retrieve a necessary amount of Crota's Essence to successfully become Ascendant, the stealth technology deactivates, exposing their presence as they are quickly assaulted by hordes of Taken. Despite Ghost being unable to transmat to safety, he and the Guardian would be teleported away to safety by Eris Morn. Ghost would express astonishment with Eris's ability, with the former Hunter stating it was merely one of Toland's capabilities before ordering them to vanquish the Taken King once and for all.[30]

Arriving to the Dreadnaught, Ghost joins the Guardian on their mission as they travel deeper into the Hive ship to confront Oryx. Fighting their way through swarms of Taken and Hive and travelling through Ruptures, they find themselves at a large door with two large statues. Upon scanning both statues , Ghost reveals that the right statue represents Crota, while the left statue represents a Hive God known as Nokris, who's name was not mentioned in the World's Grave. Arriving at the Altar of Oryx, the Guardian confronts the notorious Taken King. Despite his immense power, the Guardian defeats Oryx, forcing the King of the Hive to retreat to his throne world.[31]

Sometime after the defeat of Oryx at his Altar, Ghost and the Guardian would work alongside fireteams to eliminate major threats within the system. They would eliminate the Bond Brothers; Valus Tlu'urn and Valus Mau'ual, brining an end to their ambition of destroying the Dreadnaught's Core.[32] When one of Rasputin's Bunkers was assaulted by forces of the House of Devils, Ghost would retrieve his call of help and would assist the fireteam by scanning a Warsat and acquires codes that he uses to open the bunker, allowing them to eventually confront and destroy S.A.B.E.R.-2.[33]

As a result of initial defeat,[34] the Ghost and the Guardian would come together with a fireteam to eliminate a potential contender for the Osmium Throne, Alak-Hul, the Darkblade, responsible for the death Vell Tarlowe. When Ghost asked Eris why Alak-Hul chose to rise against Oryx, Eris stated that the Darkblade attempted this task in the name of his consort, Verok.[35]

Shortly after destroying an Echo of Oryx on Venus, Ghost and the Guardian return to the Vault of Glass after receiving a distress signal from Praedyth, a former member of Kabr's fireteam who had become lost in time. Upon arriving at the entrance, Ghost is astonished to see the Vex guarding the Vault allowing them access in order to eliminate the Taken within. Ghost continues to track a signal until the Guardian defeats Morphon, Blighted Mind. However, upon reaching the source of the signal, Ghost discovers Praedyth's centuries old remains. Although Ghost would attempt to apologize to Ikora for being unable to save him, Ikora assured him that he did not have to apologize as Praedyth's legacy would live on thanks to them.[36] Ghost continues to aid the Guardian as they destroy multiple Echoes of Oryx across the different planets in their system.[37][38][39] He also aids the Guardian in defeating a Ogre that the Hive intended to imbue with Taken power.[40]

King Dethroned[edit]

Sometime after Oryx's defeat, Didi wrote and directed a play retelling the Guardian's defeat of Oryx and his Court, titled ORYX THE NIGHTMARE DADDY. Didi played the Guardian, while Marcus Ren played their Ghost. After witnessing the play Ghost was shocked to discover that was supposed to be representing them, and had his review featured in its promotion content.[41]

Despite succeeding in their objective in killing Oryx, Ghost and the Guardian would be sent to return to the Dreadnaught on the orders of Variks to capture Malok, Pride of Oryx, who threatened to claim the Taken Throne for himself.[42] However after Malok retreats from the Dreadnaught, Ghost and the Guardian return to Eris Morn who orders them to retrieve Echoes that will allow her to determine Malok's location. Furthermore, she regards Variks's objective to capture Malok as foolish and orders the Guardian to eliminate the Taken Prince. Ultimately, Ghost and the Guardian succeed in eliminating Malok, with Eris even complementing them for their efforts.[43]

Rise of Iron[edit]

Across the Solar System, the House of Devils would begin plundering Golden Age laboratories and re-establish their hold over Old Russia. Due to the Devils' re-emergence, Saladin Forge would leave his post as the Iron Banner and order Ghost and the Guardian to investigate Vostok Observatory. Upon re-activating the Gondola to take them further up the mountain, Ghost would discover that it had not been activated for over four hundred years. When Ghost expressed his doubt with Saladin that they would be able to fully secure the observatory, Saladin merely ordered them to secure the courtyard and prevent the Fallen from reaching the Iron Temple until his arrival. Now comprehending the monumental structure they were protecting, Ghost would attempt to question Saladin further, however the Iron Lord ordered him to stay on task. Upon the outpost and the Iron Temple across from it, the Guardian is confronted by a distinct Servitor which Ghost recognizes as Sepiks. Furthermore, Ghost discerned that its energy signal was not Fallen and revealed to Saladin that it was regenerating. Although the Guardian succeeds in destroying Sepiks, the Prime Servitor would restore itself and teleport away.[44]

With Saladin realizing that the Devils' had gained access to SIVA; a Golden Age in self-replicating nanotechnology responsible for the Iron Lord's demise. When Ghost asked Saladin why they never knew about SIVA and why there was no information about it within the Vanguard database, Saladin would merely state that he went to great lengths to seal it away and that the records containing information about the nanotechnology were within the Iron Temple. Thus, to learn of the extent of the SIVA outbreak, Ghost and the Guardian would attempt to locate Sepiks Perfected. After Ghost discovers a Node enhanced with the same technology as Sepiks, consuming everything around its location, Saladin discloses that it is SIVA. Due to Shiro-4 losing all the readings from the Sensor Grid, Ghost and the Guardian would travel towards a monitoring station to get the grid back online. Eventually after fending off the Devil Splicers who had augmented themselves with the technology, Ghost succeeds in receiving all the information he could from the Sensor logs before returning the Iron Temple at Saladin's behest.[45]

Next after conversing with Saladin and Tyra Karn, Ghost and the Guardian are sent to the Plaguelands in Old Russia to eliminate the Devils Splicer detachment that had occupied a military bunker so Vanguard reinforcements could leave the hanger. Shortly after arriving to the Rocketlands, Ghost scans a Fallen Vandal with enhanced armor, which Shiro reveals is a Splicer; bio engineers within the different Fallen Houses. Following their victory after destroying Golden Age weapons reanimated by SIVA and a Perfected Walker, Ghost and the Guardian return to the Iron Temple to speak with Saladin, where he recalls the story of the Iron Lord's demise. Saladin reveals that the Iorn Lords sought out SIVA to rebuild civilization. However, upon discovering the SIVA Replication Complax within the Cosmodrome, Rasputin weaponizing the technology against them, ultimately leading to the demise of the Iron Lords and Jolder sacrificing her life to seal SIVA away. When Ghost questioned how and where the Iron Lords had obtained their knowledge of SIVA, Saladin realized that they hadn't fully mastered the technology and sends them to work with Tyra Karn to unveil the Fallen's discovery.[46]

On the orders of Tyra Karn, Ghost alongside the Guardian are sent to a Clovis Bray research facility on Mars to seek out SIVA prototypes. Ghost would scan through the computer to obtain the information they need while the Guardian would fend off Cabal forces.[47] Thanks to the protocols, Shiro-4 deciphers a method to destroy the SIVA Replication Complex. After reversing the two cores to open a hole through an explosion, Ghost and the Guardian delve underground and breach the entrance leading to the Complex. Upon reaching the Complex, Ghost discovers the bodies of Jolder, Gheleon, and Felwinter hanging from the ceiling, their bodies modified by SIVA. When Ghost attempts to activate the self-destruct sequences, the bodies of the slain Iron Lords are re-animated by SIVA. After the Guardian defeated the hulking monstrosities that stood in their way, Ghost activates the self-destruct sequence as he and the Guardian escape the Complex, with the metal doors slamming shut. With their task complete, Ghost and the Guardian return to the Iron Temple, where they give Jolder's helmet to Saladin as a gift. Almost immediately after, Ghost witnesses Saladin give the Guardian a new sword and declare them the first of a new generation of Iron Lords.[48]

However, despite the destruction of the SIVA Replication Complex, the threat of the Devils Splicers was not eliminated. Ghost and the Guardian continue to halt the Devils Splicers ambitions by preventing them from stealing unborn Ogre eggs,[49] discovering their experiments with the Hive,[50] and slaying a Ogre that a Splicer Priest that had been infused with SIVA.[51] When the Guardian returned to the Devils' Lair once more to destroy Sepiks, Ghost would play a prominent role by disabling the laser grid to allowing them to travel further into the lair and destroy Sepiks once more.[52]

Red War[edit]

Onset of the Red War[edit]

Ghost and the Guardian received intel from Variks of debris crashed into Mount Esja. After performing a visual inspection and scans, he confirmed the debris was from the Reef. Ghost failed to send a message to Petra, a Trials of Osiris representative, and Variks. This alerted remnants of the House of Winter who where observing the wreckage. Heading back to the Tower, Ghost tried to contact the Vanguard to no avail. Ghost became concerned, and decided to perform an after action report while they waited for communications to go back online.[53]

Returning to the Last City, Ghost and the Guardian return to the Last City to discover it had been invaded by Cabal from the esteemed, Red Legion, who had placed a cage over the Traveler. After aiding Zavala in fending off Cabal forces, Ghost and the Guardian would board the Immortal with assistance from Amanda Holliday, destroying its shielding and several Red Legion commanders in the process. While attempting to escape the ship by arriving on the deck, Ghost would contemplate how they would recover from this catastrophic invasion. Suddenly, the Duo would be interrupted by Dominus Ghaul as the Traveler Cage would activate, stripping the Light from both Ghost and the Guardian in the process. Ghost was instantaneously sent into a completely catatonic state and was kicked off of Ghaul's ship alongside the Guardian, seemingly to their deaths.[54]

However, despite being sent plummeting down into the Last City, Ghost would survive the colossal fall. Both, he and the Guardian received a vision that most notably exhibited a large pale shard. Eventually, Ghost would find the Guardian, expressing his gratitude for his survival before healing him while explaining that he was now incapable of resurrecting them. Furthermore, he would also disclose that the Red Legion had occupied the Last City and were executing Lightless Guardians. Upon escaping the Last City, Ghost would pick up an emergency broadcast, revealing that survivors had fled to avoid the Cabal's wrath.

Four days after the attack, the duo would discern a falcon and discover dead Guardians at a camp, scavenging the resources that remained. Ghost and the Guardian would continue to traverse across Earth one week after the Red Legion's attack. Upon spotting the falcon once again, Ghost would question whether it was following them or they were pursuing it. After the Guardian was knocked out due to plummeting off a cliff, they would both be found by a scouting path led by Suraya Hawthorne. When Ghost questioned where they were fleeing too, Suraya responded that they were travelling to a location as far from the Last City as possible. As the falcon pursuing them landed on her arm, Suraya would introduce herself as well as her falcon, Louis before they would travel to Farm in the European Dead Zone. Upon approaching the farm, Ghost recognized the shard in the distance from their vision, with Hawthorne revealing that it was the Shard of the Traveler that had broken off during the Collapse.[55]

Reclaiming the Light[edit]

Recognizing that the shard from their vision was a sign, Ghost and the Guardian decide to travel towards the shard located deep in the European Dead Zone. Upon travelling closer to the shard's location, Ghost loses his signal with Hawthorne. Nonetheless, the duo defeat scavengers of the House of Dusk and successfully approach the shard. As Ghost is held out in the Guardian's hand, he flies out off their palm and approaches the shard. Ghost realizes that they were guided here for the purpose of reacquiring the Light. Harnessing the power for the shard, Ghost channels its energy, successfully restoring their connection to the Light and allowing them to defeat the Fallen forces standing in their path.[56]

Ghost and the Guardian would aid Hawthorne and Devrim Kay by most notably strengthing their communication network,[57] and investigating conflict between the House of Dusk and Red Legion.[58] Shortly after strengthening their communication network by placing signal amplifiers, Ghost and the Guardian return to Hawthorne, who succeeds in receiving a signal from Zavala, confirming the Vanguard Commanders survival and presence on the Moon of Titan. With hope now restored, Ghost quickly declared that they should prepare to depart for Titan, however he was interrupted by Hawthorne, who refused his request due to further refugees arriving and the threat of enemy forces. When Ghost reminded Hawthorne that they had re-obtained their powers, Hawthorne declared that the Last City was gone. However, Ghost maintained hope and promised that they would return, with Hawthorne accepting his request.[59]

Journey to Titan[edit]

Travelling to the New Pacific Arcology on Titan, Ghost would alert Zavala that they were approaching his location after receiving his beacon. Upon arriving at their destination, Ghost would reveal to Zavala that they had regained their connection to the Liight, astonishing their commander. They would then be interrupted by Sloane, who would order 5hem to recharge the station so they could decrypt Red Legion transmissions. Fighting their way through hordes of Hive, Ghost would question what this settlement was, with Zavala disclosing that it was one of the Golden Age cities of Titan. Furthermore, Zavala would reveal that they had not spoken to Eris, Cayde, or Ikora ever since the fall of the Last City. After clearing the Hive nest and securing the control center, Ghost and the Guardian would then meet up with Zavala. When Zavala stated that they would be unable to survive with dead Wave Energy Converters, Ghost assured Zavala that they would re-power the Generators.[60]

To restore power to the station, the duo would be sent to make their way to the Wave Energy Converters, with Sloane and Amanda Holliday both offering support. Upon arriving at the Rig and engaging with forces of the House of Dusk, Ghost would question whether they were responsible for the Fallen's presence at this location, however Sloane disclose that they were pursued by the Fallen after evacuating Earth. After their attempts at activating the Wave Energy Converters failed, Ghost and the Guardian would be forced to proceed directly towards the converters. Defeating swarms of Hive forces, Ghost and the Guardian destroy the material blocking the piston, allowing the two converters to work properly.[61]

With Amanda detecting an unusual amount of energy being re-directed into the Arcology, Zavala would come to the conclusion that the Arcology contains a CPU powerful enough to decrypt that Cabal signal they interrupted and would thus send Ghost alongside the Guardian to retrieve one. Upon entering the Solarium, they would be greeted by the Arcology Operating System, confirming that the Arcology was back online, confirming Amanda's assumption, who would order them to locate the OS access terminal to pinpoint the CPU network. After scanning an access terminal, Ghost would discover that the CPU is located at maintenance level. Entering into the Festering Halls, Ghost scans a defunct monitor defunct monitor, disclosing that the Arcology AI lacked personality but made life better for many of the inhabitants. He would also scan a Hive rune, recognizing this specific rune from the Dreadnaught, he would remark that it meant either 'doorway' or 'treasure' or 'chamber' and hypothesize that it allowed the Hive to tap into their throne worlds. Finally, he would scan a Hive spawn pod, coming to the conclusion that these Hive were from a different brood. Upon receiving the CPU, Ghost and the Guardian fight through Hive with a Drake Tank and escape the location by boarding Amanda's ship. However, after decrypting the Cabal signal, they discover the existence of the Red Legion's super-weapon capable of destroying entire systems; the Almighty. Despite the discovery of this baneful threat, Zavala would maintain hope and send Ghost and the Guardian to locate Ikora and Cayde.[62]

Expedition to Nessus[edit]

Picking up a signal from Cayde's Ghost, Sundance from the centaur known as Nessus, the duo arrive to the Artifact's Edge where they intercept a signal where Cayde speaks of his plan to utilize a Vex trap. Discovering Cayde's signal at a crashed jumpship, they are then interrupted by Failsafe, a malfunctioning Golden Age AI who would upload the Hunter Vanguard's coordinates to them. Delving deep into Nessus, Ghost and the Guardian discover Cayde levitating and trapped within a Vex portal as he vanishes away. Continuing their journey and destroying the Vex units standing in their way, Ghost and the Guardian locate Cayde once again. When Ghost questioned Cayde's intentions of using the Vex trap, the Hunter would quickly order them to free him form the portal system by destroying the origin point of the loop before he would vanish away once again.[63]

Arriving to Failsafe's coordinates, Ghost would ask her to locate the power source so they could break him free, to which she agrees. Upon questioning what made Cayde decide to travel to Nessus, Failsafe would reveal that she knew his intentions, but would not disclose them. Successfully deactivating the Vex teleporter, Ghost and the Guardian meet up with Cayde in the Exodus Black after defeating successfully fending off Fallen and Vex forces. When Ghost questioned Cayde what he was using the teleporter for, Cayde revealed that he was going to use it to transport himself to Ghaul's location in hopes of assassinating the Dominus. Ghost made it apparent to Cayde that they could not defeat the Red Legion alone by revealing the existence of the Almighty and disclosing that Zavala needed his assistance. Stunned by Zavala's admittance to needing his assistance, Cayde asked if they or Ikora had reported the conversation. Ghost revealed that they were unaware of Ikora's location, Cayde realized that the Warlock Vanguard would have made her way to Io to reflect.[64]

Voyage to Io[edit]

Journeying to Io, Ghost and the Guardian exit their jumpship and greet Ikora at a cliff overlooking the Cradle. Standing alongside the Warlock Vanguard, she reveals that she had returned to Io in search for answers, however she still had not received a response to her questions. When Ghost revealed to her that Zavala was forming a resistance to combat the Red Legion, Ikora reminded Ghost that they were the only ones to re-obtain their connection to the Light. Believing that Ghaul was aware that Io was terraformed by the Traveler, Ikora would send the duo to investigate the Red Legion's operations. As the Guardian pursued the Red Legion ships, Ghost would spot a Pillar of Light shooting into the sky and question its true nature. Ikora would realize that it was the Traveler's energy and would blame herself for fear of death. Ghost would assure Ikora that it was not her fault and would reveal the existence of the Almighty. Upon spotting a Blight of Dark energy, Ghost would scan it and discover that it was sending out a signal with the syllables Sa… Va… Thun…. Eventually after entering into a mine, the Guardian is ambushed by Taken, making Ghost question the nature of their ambitions. Eventually after the duo defeat the Taken to dispel a portal they had summoned, Ikora recognizes the importance of ensuring Ghaul's defeat and begins preperations to depart Io.[65] However, before departing Io, Ghost and the Guardian infiltrate a Warmind Bunker and connect Asher Mir to its systems to acquire data on the Almighty. Frighteningly, the Warlock Vanguard discovers that the Almighty is linked directly to the Sun.[66]

Disabling the Almighty[edit]

With the Vanguard and the remainder of their allies launching an assault to retake the Last City, Ghost and the Guardian would be tasked with disabling the Almighty. To successfully infiltrate the super-weapon, they are tasked with eliminating Thumos, the Unbroken to gain access to the key codes for his ship. Returning to the European Dead Zone, they make their way to the location of Thumos's carrier by infiltrating a Red Legion base within the mountain, with Amanda Holliday would assist them by dropping them off tanks. Upon exiting the base, Ghost would be horrified to discover that the shuttle was protected by a shield. However, he would realize that not all hope was lost as they could disable the shield by destroying the generators. Upon damaging the thrusters, Ghost would announce to his allies that the Cabal carrier was grounded and they were prepared to confront Thumos.[67]

Infiltrating the Orobas Vectura, the Guardian would defeat a Cabal detachment while Ghost would scan a computer to gain access to the ship's schematics. When the door leading further into the ship sealed, Ghost would check his schematics and discover a vent that could lead them to the location they desired. After defeating Thumos, Ghost would alert the Vanguard that they gained access to his key codes.[68] When Ghost alerted Ikora that only one ship remained, she came to the conclusion that it was Thumus's ship and ordered them to gain access to it as quickly as possible. While the Guardian would fend off Red Legion forces, Ghost would use the key codes to gain access to the ship. When the Guardian succeeded in eliminating the remainder enemy forces, Ghost would order them to board the vessel.[69]

Upon arriving at the Almighty with the Guardian, Ghost would recognize that the weapon was already active and question whether their demise was inevitable. However, Ikora would assure him that hope remained and ordered the duo to disconnect the Almighty's link with the Sun. Entering into the Minerals Processing within the Almighty's interior and discovering that the entrance leading to the central core was blocked, Ghost would realize that they could When the Guardian would could open the way by activating the grinders. Discovering a large map with a holographic image of Mercury, Ghost would discern that the Red Legion were utilizing the planet for fuel. Furthermore, Ghost also realized that the Red Legion used fusion cells to power their machinery, allowing the Guardian to clear the tunnel leading to the Almighty's core. Progressing to the core platform, Ghost orders the Guardian to destroy the thermal exchangers to overheat the Almighty, and later to use a fusion cell to overload its electron reservoir. With the core of the Almighty beginning to explode, Ghost and the Guardian escape to safety on their ship.[70]

Retaking the Last City[edit]

Arriving to the Last City alongside the Guardian, Ghost alerts Zavala of their arrival and questions what is happening to the Traveler. Zavala and Ikora inform Ghost that they are converging onto the rally point and will use Cayde's Vex teleporter if they survive this battle. After the Guardian climbs onto the roof, Ghost realizes that Ghaul has discovered a way to imbue himself with the Light. Upon making their way to the wounded Vanguard leaders, they inform the duo that they are too vulnerable to join the battle and order them to nontheless use the teleporter to confront Ghaul. As the Guardian fights there way through Red Legion forces to arrive at the top of the ship, Ghost expresses his astonishment upon discovering that Ghaul had succeeded in imbuing himself with corrupted Light. Although the Guardian succeeds in the Dominus, he resurrects himself as an ethereal figure composed of Light. However, the Traveler staggeringly wakes from its slumber, destroys the device constraining it, and sends out an outburst of Light that kills Ghaul and restores Light to all Guardians. Ghost would be seen alongside the Guardian, Zavala, Cayde, and Hawthorne overlooking the Last City from the new Tower as the Traveler begins to rebuild itself.[71]

Further Adventures[edit]

Foiling the Arms Deal[edit]

Despite the death of Ghaul and the Red Legion's retreat from the Last City, his proximate followers as well as other threats would continue to persevere throughout the system. To eliminate these persistent foes, Ghost and the Guardian would begin to work alongside fireteams. Within the European Dead Zone on Earth, they would be sent to eliminate Bracus Zahn, a renowned weaponsmith supplying weapons to the Red Legion. Shortly after the fireteam successfully eliminated a Cabal force, Ghost would hack into the console to open the door leading to the outside of the base. Upon detecting a Solar fuel cell, Ghost alerts the fireteam of its presence, allowing them to use it to dismantle the barrier. Ghost would continue to play a prominent role for the fireteam by opening further doors through hacking into the Consoles, allowing them to traverse further into the base and eliminate Zahn.[72]

Song of Savathûn[edit]

When multiple Guardian fireteams had not reported back to Sloane during an expedition, Ghost and the Guardian would form a fireteam to discover their whereabouts. Arriving at the Arcology, Ghost would be deployed to disable the Hive runes blocking the entrance to the Arboretum. Upon travelling further into the Arcology, Sloane would inform them that it appeared that the Hive were conducting death experiments. However, Ghost would lose contact with Sloane and would be only able to faintly make out her comms. Furthermore, he would faintly pick up a transmission coming from one of the missing Guardians who was evidently panicked. When the Guardian kills a Hive Wizard guarding a crystal, Ghost realizes that the crystal is comprised of Void Light, and questions how this is possible as the power can only be created by Guardians. After scanning a Hive device, Ghost discloses that it is a summoning seal for a ritual that is being empowered by Void Light. Continuing deeper into the Arcology, Ghost then receives a transmission from the Warlock, Taeko-3, who reveals that she was the only remaining member of her fireteam after the Hive harvested their Void Light. Despite Taeko's protests for them not to continue further, the fireteam continue their rescue mission as Ghost informs the Exo that they are arriving to her location. Eventually, Ghost would realize that they destroying the Void Crystals made the Hive vulnerable, ultimately leading to Taeko's sacrificing her life to allow the Hive to transform her into a crystal so they could destroy Savathûn's Song. However, her sacrifice would not come be in vain as it would allow them to destroy the colossal Shrieker.[73]

Retaking the Exodus Black[edit]

With the House of Dusk launching a raid on the Exodus Black where Failsafe is blind, Ghost and the Guardian would work together alongside a fireteam to bring an end to their onslaught. After analyzing the Fallen's Arc pulses, Ghost would Track their location, with Failsafe disclosing shortly after that the House of Dusk were scavenging the ship for its parts. Upon arriving at the center of a maze, Ghost would hack into the Fallen device to lower the barrier blocking the way further into the maze while the fireteam would fend off enemy forces. Tracking the Arc pulses, Ghost successfully locates the Fallen's location, allowing the fireteam to bring an end to their incursion. When Ghost asked Failsafe how she was feeling, the Golden Age AI merely responded that she was in the best condition she could be in with her crew dead. Finally, Ghost assures Failsafe that they will always be there for her if she needs them.[74]

Penetrating the Inverted Spire[edit]

Returning to Nessus alongside a fireteam once again, Ghost and the Guardian are informed by Zavala that the Vex are behaving violently as a Red Legion while the Red Legion are sending enactments onto the Minor planet. Moreover, Failsafe would detect a series of seismic disruptions on Nessus, which she hypothesized that the Cabal could be responsible for. As the fireteam delves deep into Nessus, Ghost questions what the Red Legion were drilling for within Nessus. Eventually, after resetting the drill's transit system and delving into the dig site where they encounter Protheon, Modular Mind, Ghost alerts his allies of the Vex Mind's presence. After destroying the Vex Mind, Ghost and the Guardian are congratulated for their efforts.[75]

Halting Io's Conversion[edit]

Arriving to Jupitor's Moon of Io, Ghost is alerted that the fireteam must eliminate Brakion, Genesis Mind to prevent the Vex from converting Io into a machine world, and prevent any lingering Taken from corrupting the Vex Mind. Upon entering into the Vex structure, Ghost asks Asher for further details about the Pyramidion and Brakion, however the Warlock would only give bewildering responses. Travelling deeper into the Pyramidion, the fireteam eliminates Vex forces while Ghost hacks into four Network Towers to open the Final Warp Gate. Although Asher informed them that they should arrive at a radiolarian lake, Ghost informs him that the Warp Gate only took them to a large conduit. Nonetheless, the fireteam delve into the pit and destroy Brakion, enacting Asher's vengeance.[76]

Cleansing the Taken Infestation[edit]

Returning to the European Dead Zone, Ghost and the Guardian form a fireteam once more as they are tasked by Zavala and Devrim Kay with eliminating the Taken contaminating the water within the region. When the fireteam destroys the Taken Blight, Ghost reports to Devrim that eliminating the Blight resulted in the cleansing of the corruption. As the fireteam continues to destroy further Blights, Ghost remarks that although they are successfully cleansing the corruption, Taken energy signals still continue to persist. Devrim responds to Ghost by remarking that the corruption must have a source somewhere within this location. Upon defeating Grask, the Consumed, Ghost reveals to Zavala that the Phalanx was recently Taken as it was a former member of the Red Legion. When Zavala questions how the creation of further Taken is possible, Ghost reveals to the Vanguard Commander that Oryx had two sisters reported in the Books of Sorrow. Zavala congratulates them once again and disclose that he will consult Ikora about this revelation.[77]

Invitation from the Emperor[edit]

At the Cistern within the Arcadian Valley on Nessus, Cayde reveals to Ghost that his scouts detected a Cabal ship distinct from the Red Legion. He also discloses that a new commander was giving orders to members of the Red Legion 7th Company on Nessus. Entering into Vex ruins and downloading data from Cabal counsels, Ghost discovers that these Cabal were pulling schematics of Nessus from the Confluxes, assisting this new leader In identifying rich mineral deposits for consumption, and plan to utilize a ship to devour the planet. Ghost would then transmit a broadcast from this Cabal leader, who proclaims that the 7th Company has failed, but offers the remaining Red Legion remunant sto join his cause. After continuing to scan Confluxes and transmitting new data to Failsafe, Ghost discovers that these transmissions and orders are coming from the former Cabal Emperor exiled by Ghaul. As Cayde quickly disconnects from the comms to inform Ikora, Ghost questions the reason as to why the Hunter Vanguard disengaged so hastily.[78]

Searching for Osiris[edit]

Returning to the new Tower, Ghost and the Guardian meet up with Ikora, who informs them that there were strange reports coming from the Cult of Osiris on Mercury. Moreover, Ikora reveals that one of her Hidden discovered Sagira, the Ghost of Osiris who was found deactivated. Ecstatic over this revelation, Ghost enthusiastically questions Ikora if the Osiris she was speaking of was the esteemed Warlock known for his miraculous achievements, with the Warlock Vanguard confirming his assertion. With Vex activity on the planet surging shortly after Sagira's discovery, Ikora orders the Ghost and the Guardian to travel to Mercury with Sagira's shell and meet with the Cult of Osiris. When Ikora commands them to keep this mission a secret and sarcastically states that she will throw them off the wall if they disobey her orders. Uncertain if she was being sincere, Ghost asks Ikora if she was bantering, to which she affirms his suspicion.

Travelling to Mercury, Ghost and the Guardian are greeted by Vance, the keeper of the Lighthouse and are tasked by Ikora with entering the gateway into the Infinite Forest. Upon arriving close to the gateway, Vance revealed that Osiris had not returned from his journey into the forest, with Ghost remarking that anyone who had entered the gateway had not returned. As the Guardian's attempts at entering the gateway fail, Ghost ponders whether Sagira could assist them in bypassing the gate. Vance would respond to Ghost by ordering him to bring them Sagira to him. When the Guardian is suddenly ambushed by hordes of Vex, Ghost quickly recognizes these Vex belong to the Descendants. After the Guardian destroys the module blocking the way to the Lighthouse, Ghost realizes that Vex from other timelines are converging onto Mercury. Entering into the Lighthouse, Vance orders them to bring Sagira to one of their temples in the EDZ.[79]

Arriving at the European Dead Zone, Ghost alerts Ikora that the coordinates given to them by Brother Vance were beyond the village. When Ikora remarks that Hawthorne's scouts had only spotted an old radio tower, Ghost tells Ikora to remain faithful. While the Guardian travels towards the temple, Ghost asks Ikora if the other followers of Osiris hold him to the same reverence as Vance, to which Ikora confirms his impression. However, upon arriving at the coordinates, Ghost realizes that the temple was the radio tower spotted by Hawthorne's scouts. Entering into the radio tower, Ghost is horrified to discover that the remaining followers of Osiris had been killed. Upon discovering a machine constructed from Vex technology, the Guardian places Sagira's shell within the machine while Ghost manifests to scan it. However, Ghost's shell is then suddenly possessed by Sagira, who assures the Guardian that she was merely sharing his shell for the moment.[80]

Sagira would continue to possess Ghost's shell until her consciousness was captured by Panoptes, Infinite Mind, expelling the Guardian out of the Infinite Forest in the process. Upon awakening outside the entrance, Ghost finds himself confused at this uncanny situation. Accessing memory core, Ghost discovers of the events that had occurred and expresses his annoyance that the Guardian went on their journey without him. While the Guardian fails at their attempts at re-entering the Infinite Forest, Ghost realizes that he has encoded Vex holoimages and explains to his companion that he will be unable to decrypt the files, or enter the gateway into the Infinite Forest. Thus, Ghost proclaims to his companion that they will ultimately need Ikora's assistance if they are to re-enter the forest.[81]

With Ikora using her power to open the gateway into the forest to allow the Guardian to confront Panoptes, Ghost realizes that Osiris will meet his final demise without Sagira if they do not make it to the Vex Mind before he does. Traversing further into the forest, Ghost comments on how large the Infinite Forest and wonders if they can return if they defeat Panoptes. Confronting Panoptes at the Infinite Crown, Ghost realizes that they had successfully arrived at its location before Osiris. When Panoptes attempts to delete them from the Infinite Forest, Ghost would be unable to halt the Vex amine's attempts. However, they are suddenly saved by Osiris, who arrives to their assistance. Despite its immense power, the Guardian and Osiris destroy Panoptes, preventing the dark future it planned to enact. With Panoptes defeated, Ghost and the Guardian emerge from the Infinite Forest where they are greeted by Ikora, and are joined by Osiris and Sagira shortly after. When Sagira complements both the Guardian and Osiris's abilities and referee to them as "her" Guardians, Ghost quickly becomes defensive and refers to her as a Guardian thief. Ultimately, Osiris and Sagira choose to watch over the Infinite Forest in order to prevent any further dark futures that the Vex might seek to enact.[82]

Despite the death of Panoptes, Ghost and the Guardian continue to return to the Infinite Forest to assist Osiris. When Ghost received a transmission from Osiris revealing that the Infinite Forest created Vex simulated Cabal, he and the Guardian would form a fireteam and return to the forest to eliminate this threat. Following the fireteam's success at eliminating the simulated Valus, Ghost questioned why he perceived that he had eliminated this threat before. Sagira responds by revealing to him that she had previosly completed this mission alongside the Guardian when she used his shell.[83] Later, Ghost and the Guardian would form another fireteam to eliminate Dendron, Root Mind after Osiris had recreated and lost control of the colossal Vex Cyclops. During the strike mission, Ghost continues to make his grudge for Sagira apparent, notably ordering her to leave his Guardian alone when she comments on them working together once again.[81]

Saving the Warmind[edit]

Receiving reports of Red Legion remnants gathering on Mars as a result of Warsats crashing down on the terrestrial planet, Ghost alerts the Guardian of this revelation and prepares to plot a landing course as they arrive at the planet and fly towards a large icecap. Suddenly, they receive a distress signal on the Vanguard private channel from the Guardian, Anastasia Bray, the granddaughter of Clovis Bray I who requests for their assistance. When Ghost proclaims that this private channel is reserved for Vanguard operations, he is interrupted when she compliments the Guardian for Ghost's apprehension before asking for aid once more. Accepting her request, Ghost states that she will be in their debt, to which she assures them that this state of affairs was urgent as an army of Hive was attempting to destroy the most powerful weapon within the system.

Landing at the Olympus Descent, Ghost alerts Ana that they arrived at the planet's surface and questions her status. Ana affirms that she is safe and states that they must infiltrate the Clovis Bray facility. With Ana revealing that the Warsats had been firing unto the planet since her arrival, Ghost comes to the realization that the weapon she was speaking about is Rasputin. As the Guardian fights through hordes of frozen Hive, Ghost recognizes that these Hive were from a different brood that they had not encountered before. Furthermore, he also spots a tremendously large Worm in the distance. Eventually, after defeating multitudes of Hive, Ghost and the Guardian arrive at the coordinates and join up with Ana Bray.[84]

With their journey to Ana's location complete, the Hunter orders the duo to clear out the enemy forces while she discovers a way into the facility. When Ghost recounts of their previous encounters with the Warminds, he questions Ana on how Rasputin was located on Mars as Ikora proclaimed that he only had a presence on Earth. Ana responds to his question by revealing that Warminds they have encountered were merely Subminds of Rasputin and that his core mind was located on Mara. Breaching into the facility, Ghost alerts Ana of the Hive activity, resulting in her sending forth the Valkyrie, an explosive javelin which the Guardian uses to defeat the Hive. As the door into Mindlab: Rasputin opens, Ghost alongside the Guardian and Ana Bray enter inside where they are greeted by Zavala. As Zavala criticizes Ana for her belief that Rasputin could serve alongside them as an ally, they are interrupted when they hear a loud rumbling from outside caused by Xol, Will of the Thousands, one of the five Worm Gods who had broken free from the icecaps on Mars and was leading this Hive army alongside the exiled son of Oryx, Nokris.[85]

To eliminate Xol without Rasputin's aid, Zavala sends the Ghost and the Guardian to the European Dead Zone in search for a shard of the Traveler to lure out the Worm God. As the Guardian encounters the Taken, Ghost notifies them that they must destroy the Blights obscuring his ability to locate the shard. After the Blights are destroyed, Ghost successfully tracks the shard's location to Hallowed Grove and remarks that its readings are distinct compared to separate fragments of the Traveler. Upon arriving to the location of the shard, Ghost discovers that the Taken had projected a shield around the fragment. With this revelation revealed, the Guardian defeats the incoming Taken forces while Ana Bray uses a Warsat to pierce the Taken shield, allowing them to retrieve the shard.[86]

Returning to Mars, the duo are sent by Zavala to traverse into the tunnels below the Hellas Basin in search for Xol's feeding ground. Scanning the perimeter, Ghost alerts his allies that he has located a cavern leading into one of Xol's tunnels. Furthermore, he also detects an unknown interference which Ana suspects is an encoded message. Upon entering further into the cave, Ghost guides the Guardian into utilizing Relic spheres to destroy Hive crystals radiating with energy. Defeating further Hive forces in their way, Ghost reveals to Zavala and Ana that the Hive were chanting the name of Nokris and detailing his heretical actions of resurrection. When the duo approach the feeding ground below them, Ana reveals that the encoded message was chanting the names of the additional Worm Gods, Akka, Eir, Yul, and Ur. However, as they approach the feeding ground, Ghost loses contact with Ana. Nonetheless, they persist in their objective to defeat Xol and delve into the Penumbral Depths where they confront Nokris and slay the Disfavoured Son, allowing them to place the crystal at the center. However, upon placing the crystal, Xol arrives into the chamber, causing the Guardian to fall to their knees from his dark presence, and collapsing the cavern around them. Searching across the collapsed cavern, Ghost eventually finds the Guardian after they emerge from the ice, allowing him to mend their injuries. With Ana revealing that Xol was making his way to the Hellas Basin to destroy Rasputin, Zavala reluctantly agrees to allow the Warmind to assist them in eliminating this threat.[87]

Making their way back to the Hellas Basin in pursuit of Xol, Ghost scans a neural node emanating with strange readings, allowing Ana to recognize that the Neural Network was destablizing. As the Guardian is confronted by swarms of Hive at the central core, Ghost requests that Ana transports the Valkyrie to their location. Ana obeys their instruction, and conveys the Valkyrie to their position while informing them that she had partially stabilized the Neural Network. Continuing onto the Hellas View, the Guardian is forced to engage with Xol after the mammoth Worm destroyed the bridge leading to Mindlab: Rasputin. Ghost would support the Guardian during this tremendous battle by alerting them of Ana brining the Neural Network online. Ultimately, despite Xol's immense power, the Guardian defeats the formidable Worm God, bringing an end to the Martian Hive's ambitions of conquering Mara. With Xol's defeat, Ghost joins the Guardian, Ana, and Zavala as they enter the Mindlab where Rasputin allows them an audience. During this declaration, Rasputin proclaims that he will defend the people of Humanity on his own terms, rather than the Vanguard's.[88]

Hunt for the Scorn[edit]

Death of Cayde-6[edit]

When a massive breakout occurred within the Prison of Elders, Ghost and the Guardian would travel to the prison alongside Cayde-6 to assist Petra Venj in bringing an end to the riot. Entering into the disorderly prison, Ghost would notify Petra that they would assist her when they were available, and later inform her when they were proceeding towards the security hub. Upon scanning the console on the catwalk, Ghost revealed that he was unable to open the security hub entrance due to not retaining a warden-level clearance, resulting in Cayde having to use his authorization to open the entrance for the duo within an enclosed observation room. While the Guardian eliminated the Hive within and cleared the debris covering the systems, Ghost would assist Cayde in purging the buffers by ordering him to activate the red buttons. Proceeding towards a cellblock, Ghost would bring the security system online through interfacing with a terminal.

After Cayde knocked out the suspension of the security hub to prevent the maddened Uldren Sov and the Scorned Barons from escaping, the impact of the collapsing station would result in the Guardian falling down around twenty stories and being rendered briefly unconscious. Ghost would attempt to communicate with Petra and Cayde after this catastrophic occurrence, but to no avail. Following their reawakening, the Guardian would followed a trail of Ether, which Ghost recognized was distinctly different from ordinary Ether. Suddenly, as the Guardian encountered a group of undead Eliksni known as Scorn, Ghost recognized that these creatures were once Fallen until they were warped into what they are. Delving deeper into the prison, Ghost is astonished to witness a blast of Light energy emanate across the location. Recognizing that this blast of Light was caused by the death of Cayde‘s Ghost, Sundance, he quickly urged the Guardian to make their way to Cayde before it was too late. However, upon making arriving to Cayde's location, they find the Hunter Vanguard wounded on the ground with a billet wound while Uldren Sov and the Scorned Barons escape the prison. Running over to their dying friend, Ghost would despairingly inform the Guardian that he was incapable of doing anything to safe Cayde. Ghost would stand by the Guardian's side as Cayde tragically perished in their hands.[89]

Journey to the Tangled Shore[edit]

With the Guardian's vow to kill Uldren and the Scorned Barons in retribution for the death of Cayde-6, Ghost would join his companion in their journey as they made their way to the Tangled Shore. Flying down to their destination aboard their ship, Ghost would inform the Guardian that the Tangled Shore was a locality for pirates, outlaws, and scavangers. Moreover, he proclaimed that they must investigate every location in the Shore in search of Cayde's killers. As the Guardian arrived to a camp inhabited by dead Fallen, Ghost would detect a strange energy signature and advise the Guardian to investigate it. Hacking into a terminal, Ghost would open an entrance leading into a cave and unveil an illusionary obstacle blocking the way forward.

After the Guardian defeated Scorn forces sent forth by Fikrul, the Fanatic, Ghost would scan a Servitor and come to the realization that they were attempting to corrupt the Ether within it. Swiftly afterwards, Ghost would be greeted by Petra over the comms, who would send forth Fallen allies to assist them. Furthermore, Petra would reveal that the Scorn were undead Eliksni re-animated by Fikrul. After defeating the hordes of Scorn occupying Thieves' Landing, Ghost and the Guardian would begin to work alongside the Eliksni crime syndicate leader, the Spider, who had agreed to assist them in eliminating Uldren and the Scorn.[90]

As Spider would send the duo to clear the Scorned Barons out of their lair, Ghost recognized that Petra wanted to kill Uldren out of a blind rage, and would question whether they were truly killing the Awoken Prince as an action of justice. Nonetheless, the duo continued their journey as they infiltrated the Scorn's lair alongside multiple of Spider's associates. When Pirrha, the Rifleman eliminated one of Spider's associates, Ghost would notify Spider of his death, who would advise them to concern themselves with the matter. Although, the Guardian would successfully secure the stronghold, the Scorned Barons had successfully escaped, making Ghost contemplate what they would now do.[91]

Hunting the Scorned Barons[edit]

With the Scorn's lair now breached, the Guardian and Ghost would be tasked with hunting the Scorned Barons across the Tangled Shore. Discovering a pike belonging to the leader of the Scorn's pike gang, Yaviks, the Rider, Ghost ordered the Guardian to steal her pike and travel about the Shore to lure her out. Learning that the pike was designed to alert Yaviks of any unusual usage, Ghost would begin to hack into it to strengthen its signal. After the Guardian eliminates multiple Scorn pikers, Ghost successfully triangulates Yaviks's position, allowing the Guardian to defeat the Rider.[92]

Upon beginning their pursuit of Araskes, the Trickster, Ghost alerts his companion that she is infamous for utilizing traps and clunkier while concealing in the shadows. When the Guardian picks up an Exotic Engram, Ghost quickly informs the Guardian that it is rigged to explode. Eventually, after the Guardian destroys the fabricators using rigged Engrams, they confront Araskes, who taunting reminds them of Cayde's death. During the Guardian's battle against Araskes, Ghost would provide them informational support by informing them both of the rigged ammo and how to destroy the door leading further until the cave until they finally slay the Trickster.[93]

During their hunt for Kaniks, the Mad Bomber, Ghost would command them to pursue the Red Legion Threshers that Kaniks had spoken off. Immediately after the Guardian kills the Mad Bomber, Ghost notifies them that the bombs within the cave are rigged to explode. As the Guardian successfully defuses the bombs within the cave, Ghost assures them that the Kaniks's declaration that they were a murderer as untrue and the purpose behind this mission was to enact retribution for Cayde's death.[94]

Discovering a Servitor drained of its Ether and contained within a cage, Ghost realizes that Reksis Vahn, the Hangman was responsible after discerning his name on the dead Servitor. When the Guardian frees two of Spider's Servitors from containment, Ghost expresses his bewilderment that the Scorn would destroy Servitors due to the prominence they hold within the Fallen's culture. Subsequently after the Guardian defeated Reksis Vahn at the Quitter's Well, Ghost indicates his disgust for the Hangman's enjoyment of pain and informs the Guardian that he wants to leave this location as soon as possible to not be reminded of Cayde's fate.[95]

During the Guardian's search for Hiraks, the Mindbender, Ghost scans a synaptic amplifier to determine Hiraks's trail within a cave. While the Guardian battles hordes of Scorn and Mindbent Hive, Ghost would scan the amplifiers to track Hirak's location within a Hive Tombships. Searching through the Mindbender's file, Ghost disclose that Hiraks believed that he could create his own throne world through slaughtering other beings. This revelation left Ghost bewildered as he recalled that only Hive should be capable of this feat. When the Guardian engages with Hiraks and pursues him into his throne world, Ghost originally is baffled by its size, but recognizes that it was expanded in size due to Cayde's death. After the Guardian defeats Hiraks and escapes his collapsing throne world, Ghost aspires with hope that Cayde can rest in peace with the throne world built from his death now being destroyed.[96]

Arriving to a sniper nest to eliminate Pirrha, the Rifleman, Ghost reminds the Guardian that he is responsible for the death of Sundance and alerts them to remain cautious. When the Guardian battles Pirrha and forces him to retreat, Ghost tracks his position to the Jetsam of Saturn. As the Guardian battles Pirrha's identical decoys, Ghost states that he posses more intelligence than his appearance suggests and determines that these decoys were created using Lightweight simulation technology that the Guardian should collect. Following the Guardian's success at eliminating Pirrha, Ghost reveals that although he lies low to ensure his safety, Sundance had the same flashy, arrogant, and skills attributes as Cayde. Still distraught over her demise, Ghost proclaims that Sundance's death was unwarranted.[97]

Finally, with seven Scorned Barons eliminated, Ghost and the Guardian begin their hunt for Elykris, the Machinist. Upon beginning their mission, Ghost notifies the Guaridna that Elykris serves as Fikrul's right hand and possess a large armada of stolen technology from various species. When the Guardian discovers a large tank in a junkyard, Ghost recognizes that it was manufactured in the Last City and complements the Machinist for her aesthetic choices. Scanning the tank, Ghost discerns that the tank's turret and nav module were not functioning and identifies potential replacement in within the junkyard. Encountering an energy source blocking the way forward, Ghost is employed by the Guardian to lower the barrier by hacking into the terminal. Detecting large containments of Dark Ether at the junkyard, Ghost eventually comes to the conclusion that Elykris preserves the remaining Dark aether with the remainder of her supplies. When Elykris is eliminated, Ghost reminds the Guardian that only Fikrul and Uldren are the only targets that remain in their quest for vengeance. Suddenly, they are greeted by Petra Venj, who informs them that she has discovered Uldren's location.[98]

Breaching the Watchtower[edit]

With the revelation that Uldren was attempting to open the gateway to the Dreaming City at the Watchtower with the belief that Mara was still alive, Ghost and the Guardian board their jumpship and begin their journey to the destination. While travelling to this location, Ghost once again reminds the Guardian that eliminating Fikrul and Uldren are the final steps to avenging Cayde. However, Ghost remarks that although Uldren deserves to face judgement for his crimes, the true reason they desire to enact their vengeance weighs just as heavily as the motivation behind their actions. Upon arriving to their location, Ghost notifies Petra that they are travelling on foot to the Watchtower, with the Queen's Wrath disclosing that she is travelling through air flight. As the Guardian approaches the entrance to the Watchtower and slays Fikrul, the Fanatic, Petra proclaims to Ghost that they must end Uldren's campaign for Cayde. When the Guardian uses rifts in the Ascendant Plane to travel further up the Watchtower, Ghost remarks that the line between both realities is thin within this Awoken outpost. Eventually, the duo approach the top of the Watchtower, where Uldren had been deceived into opening the gateway into the Dreaming City by an unknown entity and had been devoured by the Voice of Riven. Despite its remarkable power, the Guardian slays the Voice of Riven, freeing Uldren Sov from its grasp. With the sinister threat eliminated, Ghost would manifest alongside the Guardian as they retrieve the Ace of Spades and prepares to execute Uldren alongside Petra. However, Ghost would object this choice of action as he would proclaim that despite the countless atrocities Uldren had committed, the Awoken Prince should not be executed as he was now defeated. Petra would counter Ghost's argument by stating to the Guardian that she understood what Cayde would do in this situation. Regardless of his objection, Ghost would stand by the Guardian and Petra as they executed Uldren for his crimes.[99]

Entering the Dreaming City[edit]

To uncover what sinister threat resided within the Dreaming City, Petra Venj that Ghost and the Guardian assist her in her investigation as she enters the gateway into the Awoken's sacred stronghold. Obeying Petra's command, the Guardian returns to the Watchtower alongside multiple of Spider's Associates. As the Guardian vanquishes the Taken forces in their way and uses the talisman to open the gateway. With the gateway opened, Ghost orders the Guardian to enter the portal and proclaims to Petra that they are coming to her aid.[100] Arriving to the Spine of Keres within the Dreaming City, Ghost recalls that an unknown entity lured Uldren to the Watchtower. As Ghost reminds the Guardian of Petra's order to ensure her safety, he informs them that he will notify them of any threats and orders them to travel to a higher location to locate Petra's ship. Upon spotting Petra's ship flying across the sky, Ghost instructs the Guardian to follow the Queens Wrath's jumpship. However, they encounter three of Mara's Techeuns who had been Taken after the Battle of Saturn, who cast them into the Ascendant Plane.

Traversing through this inexplicable realm once more, the Guardian and Ghost are guided out of the Ascendant Plane and back into the Dreaming City by Toland, the Shattered, a member of Eris's fireteam who had been rendered an Ascendant Spirit after allowing his physical body to be destroyed by the death song of Ir Yût, the Deathsinger.[101] Eventually, after fighting through hordes of Taken, Ghost and the Guardian meet with Petra at the Oracle Engine, who reveals that she knows the identity of the entity responsible for Uldren's corruption. As Petra fails at her attempts of using the Oracle Engine to contact the absent, Queen Mara due to the missing presence of an Offering, Ghost vows that he and the Guardian will retrieve this required component.

Before retrieving the Offering, Ghost would begin to ask Petra questions regarding a variety of mysteries revolving around the Awoken. When Ghost questioned Petra on what corrupted Uldren and drove him to insanity, Petra merely states that there is a creature of immense power within the city and apologizes after affirming that she would have to first contact Mara before revealing more. Ghost assured Petra that they understood her decision and would ask what had happened to the remainder of the Awoken within the Dreaming City. Petra disclosed that the Awoken within the city had been evacuated before the Taken War and that Mara and her Techeuns had used their power to seal off the Watchtower. Furthermore, Petra discloses to the duo that Mara had comprised with Spider by allowing him to continue his business within 5he Tangled Shore in exchange for ensuring the Watchtower's protection. Upon asking the true nature of the Dreaming City, Petra answers Ghost's question by revealing that the Awoken have constructed multiple hidden cities throughout the Reef for different purposes, with the Dreaming City specifically serving as a place for study and worship. Comprehending Petra's explanation, Ghost then asks about the true nature of the Oracle Engine, to which Petra reveals that Mara used it to walk between realities. When Ghost asks why both her and Uldren seem to believe that Mara lives, Petra states that Uldren was not acting like himself and she believed Mara lived due to her faith that the Awoken Queen had a plan. When Petra asks them if they had seen the Techeuns, Ghost states that he was unsure but confirms they were attacked by three women during their pursuit of her. Petra affirms that those women were the Taken Techeuns that they had encountered and vows to save them if possible.

Eventually after retrieving the Offering from a Scorn detachment led by Elikaa, Sworn to Vengeance, Ghost confirms to Petra that they had retrieved the artifact. After the Guardian presents the Offering to the device, the Oracle Engine successfully activates as they are greeted by Mara Sov, confirming the Awoken Queen's survival. As Petra and Mara converse, it is revealed that the entity responsible for Uldren Sov's corruption was Riven; the last known Ahamkara who had been Taken by Oryx shortly after the Battle of Saturn. Ultimately, after Mara bids them farewell, Ghost asserts to Petra that she was correct, with the Queen's Wrath reaffirming his statement and ordering them to meet up with her when they were available.[102]

Curse on the Dreaming City[edit]

Although a six Guardian fireteam would free Kalli and Shuro Chi from their corruption, and later succeed in slaying Riven and cleansing her heart of its corruption, this would be revealed to be what Riven had desired. Upon transcending death, Riven uses her power to grant a wish to curse the Dreaming City between physical reality and the Ascendant Plane.[103] With this new curse afflicted upon the Dreaming City, Ghost and the Guardian would begin to work alongside the forces of the Reef to eliminate the new threats within the Dreaming City. Uniting alongside two other Guardians, the duo would return to the Dreaming City with the purpose of freeing the Techeun, Sedia from her Taken corruption. When Ghost alerts Petra that they are entering into the Temple of Illyn, Petra orders them to delve into the heart of the structure and free Sedia from her corruption. As the fireteam exited the Ascendant Plane, Ghost would activate the elevator while the Guardians fought off the incoming Taken forces. Eventually, as the fireteam arrive at the Adytum, Ghost alerts them of Sedia's presence. During the battle, Ghost would warn the Guardians of the incoming debris and alert them when Sedia was attempting to flee until they finally free the Techeun from her corruption.[104]

Later, the duo would be sent to assist an injured Corsair, whose relics had been stolen by the forces of Xivu Arath. When Ghost asked what the relics truly were, the Corsair disclosed that they contained information related to schematics for building weapons, and secrets to other worlds and galaxies beyond. With the Corsair proclaiming that they would lose everything if the artifacts were not reacquired, Ghost assured her that they would recapture the artifacts. When the Guardian returned with a relic, Ghost would ask the Corsair if the Hive and Taken forces had taken other relics, resulting in the Corsair revealing his suspension by revealing that they had raided the Hall of Names. Ghost assured her that they would reacquire these results and instructed her to get to safety. However, upon returning to the Corsair's location they would tragically discover that she had been slain in battle. After retrieving the final relic, Ghost would alert Petra to prepare for the relics that they were transmatting to their location. When Ghost questioned if the Corsair's body had been brought to the base, Petra assured him that Sedia had returned with her remains before thanking them for their assistance.[105]

When Sedia revealed to the Guardian that the Taken were attempting to capture the Oracle Engine, Ghost would question why the Taken would be interested in a mere communications device. In response to his ignorance, Sedia disclosed that the Oracle Engine served even further uses and that it cannot be replaced if it is destroyed. With the threat that the Taken posed, Ghost assured Sedia that they understood the importance behind the device while the Techeun would respond by proclaiming that she would send forth reinforcements. As the Guardian begins to approaches the observatory, Ghost alerts Petra of the Guardian's location while the Queen's Wrath attempts to discharge reinforcements. Following the Guardian's success at recapturing the Oracle Engine from the Taken, Ghost contacts Petra and alerts her that the Observatory is clear of enemy forces and that the Oracle has not suffered any damage. Contemplating the Hive and Taken's senseless tactical assaults, Petra indicates her concern that they were being outmaneuvered by their enemies. Countering her stance regarding the purpose behind these assaults, Ghost hypothesis that these onslaughts possessed no specific purpose as the Hive and Taken were not notorious for their stradegy.[citation needed]

Haunting of the Moon[edit]

Investigating the Disturbance[edit]

Following a seismic disturbance event that had caused a disturbance on the Moon, Zavala would command the Guardians to eliminate the re-surfaced forces of the Hidden Swarm. Flying from the Earth to the Moon, the Guardian and Ghost transmat themselves to the Lunar Battlegrounds, where Zavala orders them to regain a foothold on the Moon before investigating the disturbance. Securing a foothold on the Lunar Battlegrounds, Ghost informs Zavala that the Hive were retreating and remarks that they were behaving irregularly. Zavala responds that their unusual behaviour was a result of their lack of leadership as a result of Crota's death. He also remarks that the disturbance seems to have encouraged them to resurface. To grasp the true nature behind this disturbance, Ghost informs Zavala that they will bring an end to the Hive's assault. After securing control of the entrance to the Sorrow's Harbor and vanquishing a Hive portal, Ghost informs Zavala of their success who orders them in response to assault the Scarlet Keep that the Hidden Swarm had constructed.

Persisting in their expedition towards the Keep, Ghost is then contacted by Ikora Rey, who informs them that the one responsible for triggering the disturbance was Eris Morn after she had ventured into the Keep in search for answers. As Ikora expressed her concern for Eris's safety, Ghost assured the Warlock Vanguard that they would find the Hidden agent. When Zavala informs them that he is sending assistance to aid them in eliminating the enemy forces, Ghost asks Zavala if the Vanguard had been familiar with the Hive's activity on the Moon before the disturbance. Zavala affirms that the Vanguard had been monitoring the Hive's progression on the Moon, however they were unable to discern the purpose behind the construction of the Scarlet Keep.

As the Guardian eliminates Hive forces and begins to delve into the Scarlet Keep, Ikora discloses to Ghost that Eris had returned to the to search for evidence of a something that could pose a threat to humanity. Responding with assurance, Ghost asserts to Ikora that Eris had proven the capability of her resilience. However, Ghost abruptly loses contact with Ikora and inquires about the nature of this abnormality. Continuing further into the Scarlet Keep in search of the source behind the disturbance, the Guardian briefly encounters a strange phantom, causing Ghost to become startled by this frightening figure. As the Guardian eliminates abnormal Thralls, Ghost informs his partner that these Thralls were not ordinary Hive as they radiated an unknown energy signature.

Eventually, after delving deeper into the cave, the Guardian arrives to the location of the disturbance to discover it was a Pyramid of the Black Fleet that was responsible for the Collapse. Expressing his astonishment with the Pyramid's presence, Ghost realizes that this was the potential threat that Eris was searching for during her scout mission. As the Guardian traverses across the ledges to continue further toward the Pyramid, Ghost notifies the Guardian that he felt as tho an unknown entity was seizing control of his Light. When the Guardian fails at their attempts to pass through a strange red aura, Ghost discerns that this aura was an energy spike that prevented them from proceeding forward. Instantaneously after, the peculiar red aura would transform into the Nightmare of Crota, Son of Oryx, astoundingly horrifying Ghost as they had slain the Eater of Hope years ago. This would not be the only perplexing challenge as the apparition of Crota would reacquire its strength during the battle and promptly be assisted by the Nightmare of Dominus Ghaul and the Nightmare of the Fanatic. Recognizing the direness of this situation, Ghost asserts to the Guardian that they must retreat as this was a fight they were incapable of winning. Fortunately, Ghost and the Guardian would be saved as they would be transported to safety by Eris Morn.[106]

Searching for Answers[edit]

Learning from Eris that these Nightmares were apparitions of the Darkness that manifested as their past figures and foes, Ghost and the Guardian would begin to work alongside the former Hunter once more to breach the Lunar Pyramid. As Ghost would ask Eris what location they must investigate, Eris affirmed that the Hive undeniable knew of the Pyramid's existence evidenced by their close proximity to the ancient vessel and their construction of the Scarlet Keep. Furthermore, she would elaborate on her thesis by stating that there was an unquestionable connection between the Hive and the Nightmares. Grasping the concept of Eris's statement, Ghost would inform her that they would begin their investigation at the Scarlet Keep.

Proceeding towards the Sorrow's Harbor, Ghost would inform Eris that the Hive were conducting a ritual at this location. Remaining diligent in their goal, Eris orders them to learn the purpose behind the Hive ritual. As the Guardian defeats Hive forces and powerful Nightmares at the ritual site to retrieve six ruined tablets, Ghost discloses to Eris that the Hive were drawing in the Nightmares for a ritual. Perplexed by this enigma, Eris would ask Ghost what the purpose behind this practice is. Ghost would respond by announcing he was unsure of what uprise the ritual served, but affirms that the Hive appear to be unaffected by the Nightmares. Fascinated by this revelation, Eris remarks that this disclosure could be the key to bypassing the Pyramid. However, they suddenly lose contact with Eris as they hear a familiar scream. Recognizing that these screams were coming from a Hive Wizard, Ghost alerts the Guardian that they must return to Eris's location.[107]

Returning to camp, Eris reveals that the screams that had came from the Nightmare of Omnigul, Will of Crota and tasks the duo with eliminating it to retrieve its Essence. As the Guardian would eliminate the Nightmare within the World's Grave, Ghost alerts Eris Morn of their success and informs her that they had retrieved the unique Essence from the Nightmare. Eris Morn congratulates them for their success and orders them to assault the Scarlet Keep to uncover any secrets that may lie within.[108]

Striking the Scarlet Keep[edit]

Alongside a fireteam of two other Guardians, the Young Wolf launches an assault on the Scarlet Keep. Informing them of the immense power radiating from the tower of the Scarlet Keep, Eris Morn remarks that although the Hive were conducting dark rituals, this fortress may contain the Hive magic they need to construct armor that will allow them to bypass the Pyramid's defences. Baffled by the construction of this new fortress, Ghost asks Eris why the Hive would construct a tower as they were infamous for favouring their underground strongholds. Eris responds that the Scarlet Keep seems to have been built for ceremonial purposes and affirms her belief that it allows the Hive to amplify their magic to achieve immunity from the Lunar Pyramid.

Traversing further into the Keep towards a bridge leading to the tower, Ghost is astonished to spot a Daughter of Crota levitating above the bridge and informs Eris of her presence. Recognizing this Wizard as Hashladûn, Daughter of Crota, Eris Morn states that she was believed to have been dead after Crota's defeat and declares that she must be responsible for the rituals taking place in the tower. As the Guardians traverse further into the Keep, Ghost alerts Eris that they have once again located Hashladûn and reveals that the Wizard was retreating deeper into the cave. Wary of Hashladûn's supposed retreat, Eris informs Ghost of her skepticism regarding the true intention of the Daughter of Crota's withdraw, but nontheless orders them to continue their persuit.

Eventually, the fireteam traverses up to the Tower of Woe where they confront and slay Hashladûn. With the fireteam's mission complete, Ghost alerts Eris of Hashladûn's defeat at the hands of the Guardians. Relieved over Hashladûn's death, Eris recognizes that her supervision of the tower indicates the Hive‘s grand aspirations for utilizing Pyramid's influence. Expanding on the details of their success, Ghost reveals that Hashladûn had a tablet describing an unknown artifact known as a Cryptoglyph. Acknowledging the value of this information, Eris Morn orders them to return to the camp to discuss their next course of action.[109]

Returning to the Pit[edit]

Returning to the camp, the duo converse with Eris Morn, who comes to the realization that the Cryptoglyphs were the artifacts that the Hidden Swarm were using to shield themselves from the Nightmares. To uncover this potent relic, Eris Morn sends them to traverse down into the Catacombs, a place where the Hive study the Pyramid, and retrieve the Cryptoglyph within so they can use it to circumvent the Pyramid's defences. Delving into the Hellmouth once more and arriving at the Circle of Bones, Ghost notifies the Guardian that the entrance leading to the Catacombs is on the other side of the pit.

Eventually, after travelling down the dark staircase and fighting hordes of Hive, the Guardian arrives to the Catacombs. As the Guardian activates a sigil to create a bridge leading to the, Ghost apprehensively enlightens his allies that the Pyramid's influence is once again attempting to seize control of his Light. Remaining persistent in their mission, Eris pronounces that the Pyramid was merely a distraction and assures him that she will teleport them to safety once the Cryptoglyph is retrieved. Despite this assurance, Ghost continues to remain anxious of the Nightmares presence, but assures himself that they were only a diversion meant to distract them from infiltration the Pyramid.

After the Guardian slays Besurith, Daughter of Crota and retrieves the Cryptoglyph, Ghost attempts to contact Eris so she can teleport them to safety. However, as the Guardian is suddenly drained of their Light and ambushed by masses of Hive, Ghost orders them to retreat to the surface. In spite of their vulnerability, the Guardian avoids the endless hordes of Hive and emerges t from the Catacombs. Recovering contact with Eris, Ghost assures her of their safety and informs her that they had retrieved the Cryptoglyph. Eris Morn apologizes for being unable to transport them to safety due to the Pyramid's influence and orders them to bring the artifact back to her.[110]

Rise of House Salvation[edit]

During Beyond Light, Ghost got a transmission from Variks about a new threat upon Europa, leading to the Guardian and Ghost adventuring to the frozen moon. After activating some communication relays for a secret rebel communication system, a Crux of Darkness appears and controls Ghost's shell again. After the Guardian obtains a Splinter of Darkness, Ghost becomes worried that the Guardian will forget about the Light and become consumed by Darkness. After defeating Eramis, Kell of Darkness using Stasis, Ghost made a promise that he will always be with the Guardian, whether on the path of Light or Darkness.

Investigating the Stolen Light[edit]

During Witch Queen, Ghost has their faith shaken in the Traveler after encountering Ghosts reviving and working with the Hive, gifting them the same Light as he gifts to the Guardian. Due to his perception of Hive Ghost actions as a betrayal of the ideals he upholds, Ghost develops a newfound zealotry, unafraid to show anger. At one point, he even shouts down Savathun, proclaiming that she had killed many of his friends (notably Sagira).[111]

The Witness detected the Veil on Neptune, and sent Calus and his forces to secure it. Osiris snuck aboard the fleet, and the Guardian and Ghost followed at Ikora's request. Inside one of Calus's ships, Ghost detected they were now at the outer giants, specifically Neptune's orbit. He realized Osiris was right, and that the Witness had sent Calus hear to find something hidden on Neptune. Traversing through the ship, Ghost spotted some Shadow Legion carrying Pyramid packs and assumed they were another weapon from the Witness. Ghost warned the Guardian to stay vigilant and to be prepared for anything. Contacting Osiris, Ghost wanted to regroup as soon as possible but decided they should first disable the ships computer core to buy themselves time. Osiris located a terminal, and sent Ghost the ship's layout so he could pinpoint the location of the core. Further ahead, the Guardian encountered a locked door, and Ghost stated they needed to get through there. The Guardian defeated more Cabal, and Ghost spotted a keycard that could be used to open the door. Ghost began to wonder if they made the right choice following Osiris, and if they should have stayed back to protect the Traveler and their people. The Guardian was ambushed by Kavauust, an entity Ghost didn't recognize. The Guardian found another keycard, and Ghost determined that it would lead them to the computer core. Arriving at the core, Ghost commented on how it was used for the entire ship, performing functions such as communications, navigation, and deployment. Osiris told him they needed to go to his position on a different carrier, informing Ghost that he had a plan to reach the surface. However, Ghost detected hesitation in his voice, and Osiris quickly changed the subject. Heading outside the ship, Ghost spotted Calus's flagship below them heading for the surface of Neptune. Ghost reminded the Guardian they needed to find Osiris fast, and feared he was acting reckless. Osiris shared his plan: blow up the reactor on the ship. After blowing up the engines, Ghost informed Osiris that the ship was losing altitude. Osiris told them to escape using the drop pods, and Ghost privately shared with the Guardian that he wasn't a fan of his plan. Osiris would ask where the Guardian is, and Ghost told him their path was being sealed off, and they had to find another way. Finally arriving, Ghost asked Osiris if the escape pods were safe, but before he could respond his drop pod launched. Ghost activated the Guardian's drop pod and hoped for the best.[112]

Exiting the crashed pod, Ghost was amazed by the surreal city of Neomuna, shocked that an entire civilization had lived here in secret. He picked up a ping on Osiris's coordinates, and told the Guardian they should find him. Rohan flew past and asked them to identify themselves, and whether or not they are with the enemy. Ghost informed him they were Guardians from the Last City. Nimbus was excited to meet Lightbearers. Ghost informed him they are fighting the same enemies, and that they were looking for the Veil. Rohan informed Ghost that they were pinned down, but would get to their location soon. Ghost reflected that the Last City always thought they were the last of humanity. He shared his excitement to tell the Vanguard, but quickly realized if they didn't stop the Shadow Legion there would be no city left. Arriving near Osiris's coordinates, Ghost told him they would help him soon, and where checking an anomaly while the coast was clear. Ghost was amazed to see the Guardian wield the anomaly. However, they quickly were drained of energy, and Ghost reported that their body couldn't handle that much power, with their vital signs in the red.[112]

Ghost agreed with Osiris and reminded the Guardian that they needed to reach the Veil before Calus and the Shadow Legion. Heading into the city, he opened a channel for Nimbus. Ghost told Nimbus that he was impressed by the city, and Nimbus told him he should view it from the CloudArk. Ghost asked what that was, and Nimbus began to explain but Osiris interrupted stating they couldn't get distracted. Arriving at a barrier, Nimbus told Ghost he pinged a keycard that should work to open the barrier. The Guardian picked one up, and Ghost asked how many more they needed, but Nimbus alerted them that the Cabal officers were already heading their way. After collecting the keycards, Ghost noticed the data was highly corrupted. Ghost began hacking into the barrier, drawing unwanted attention. Ghost was surprised by the complexities of the Pyramid technology, and told the Guardian to hold back the hostiles while he worked on bringing down the barrier. After taking a long time, Nimbus suggested he take a look, but Ghost said he had it, and just felt off. Heading through the barrier, Ghost commented that the closer they get to the Veil, the more he felt strange. Encountering a suppression device, Ghost noted that he felt drained, and some of the Guardian's powers were gone. Encountering Shadow Legion, the Guardian had to fight with limited abilities, while Ghost hoped Osiris could research a way to destroy the devices. Defeating the Cabal, Ghost spotted the Shadow Legion moving into towards the Irkalla Complex.[113]

Ghost and the Guardian headed to the Typhon Imperator to destroy the Radial Mast. Upon arriving in Ahimsa Park, Ghost mocked the Shadow Legion guarding the entrance to the ship. Discovering an energy field blocking their way, Ghost suggested disrupting the circuit. Upon entering the ship, Ghost detected a concentration of Light energy, and Osiris suspected it might be the Radial Mast. Entering the main corridor, Ghost noticed the way forward was heavily protected, and even if they made it through, the Shadow Legion would have plenty of time to secure the Radial Mast. Having little data, Ghost still managed to map out an alternate route with less hostiles, and Osiris relented. Ghost spotted more of the anomalous Darkness energy, and asked the Guardian why it was there. The Guardian then came across a dead end, irritating Osiris. Ghost rerouted to a new route. The Guardian came across a statue of Calus, and Ghost remarked that it could have come straight out of the Leviathan, and wondered if deep down the Calus they knew was still there. [114]

Defending Earth[edit]

Ghost and the Guardian arrived in Trostland after Devrim Kay reported an increase in Taken activity. Ghost asked how bad the infestation was, but Devrim told him he would see sonn enough. Noticing blights block the way, Devrim suggested Ghost use Pyramid technology to clear the infection. Ghost asked how much it had been tested, and Devrim it was being tested right now by the Guardian. The Guardian detonated the device, and Ghost was surprised that it actually cleared the blight. Ghost warned the Guardian of a Chimera ahead, to which Devrim replied they were bound to spawn hornets if they kicked a nest. Ghost asked if Devrim had seen a Hornet recently, and he quickly changed the subject. After defeating the Taken, Devrim thanked them for visiting despite all the threats away from Earth, and Ghost replied that home is where the Taken are.[115]

Landing in Firebase Hades, Ghost hacked into the Cabal systems and opened a door for the fireteam. Caiatl informed the team that she miscalculated the strength of Bracus Zahn's forces, surprising Ghost. Caiatl became defensive, and asked if he had any other questions. Traveling through the base, the team found Zahn and begins to attack. After being wounded, Zahn set up a shield, angering Ghost.[116]

While the Guardian and Devrim were discussing strategy against the Shadow Legion, Ghost quietly drifted outside through a gap in the roof. He followed the creek, reflecting on how much the Farm changed since the Red War. Even during the Red War, the place was lively and cheerful, but after the Shadow Legion attack, survivors were grim-faced and focused. No matter what they faced, Ghost new the objective was the same: help survivors reach safety. Taking one more look at the stars, Ghost returned to his Guardian once more.[117]

Preventing the Final Shape[edit]

Ghost left a message for the Guardian before they entered the Pale Heart, that would be discovered after the Witness's defeat. He shared how he felt invulnerable when with the Guardian, and is in awe of them. He acknowledges that he has changed, and feels desolate knowing some Ghosts will never feel the pride of watching their Guardian again, such as Brya and Sagira. Looking at the portal, he realizes they might fail to defeat the Witness. With newfound determination, he knows they have to win, and thanks the Guardian for showing him what it means to be a hero, a god and a friend.[118]

Entering the Pale Heart[edit]

The Guardian, Ikora Rey, and Zavala and their respective Ghosts flew through the portal on the Traveler as Mara Sov used her connection to Crow to grant them passage. The Guardian's ship crashed, causing Ghost and him to quickly transmat out onto the Threshold of the Pale Heart. Ghost alerted Mara they made it to the Threshold, and Mara warned him her connection to Crow was weakening, and they had to hurry. As the Guardian traversed platforms eerily similar to locations from their last, they eventually came across a well of Darkness surrounded by Taken. Ghost realized the Witness must be using the Taken to search for them. The Guardian shot the seed of Darkness in the well, causing an overlay of possibilities to appear. More Taken appeared, and Ghost directed the Guardian to a concentration of Light. Now imbued with Light, Ghost asked the Guardian to try shooting the seed again, causing the platforms to materialize. As the Guardian progressed, Ghost performed scans but was unable to determine the age and material composition of the platforms around them. Soon after the Guardian encountered Weavers, and Ghost noted they scanned as a Psion, but with highly modified genetics. The Guardian and Ghost continued to traverse through the Threshold, as Mara told them she has yet to reach the Vanguard. Ghost ensured her they will find the Vanguard. Encountering a swarm of Taken with Prismatic shielding, Ghost warned the Guardian they had to flee. As Mara's bond weakened more, she asked them when they find Crow, to tell him she will join them as soon as possible. She began to say more, but Ghost interrupted and says Crow already knows. Finally Mara's bond broke, and as the Witness's forces closed in, a bird of Light created a pathway into the Pale Heart allowing the Guardian and Ghost to escape.[119]

Upon entering the Pale Heart, Ghost and the Guardian experienced a vision from the Traveler, showing the Collapse, birth of the Ghosts, the Traveler being corrupted by the Witness, a Ghost being destroyed, mementos from the Vanguard being corrupted, and a member of Ares One channelling the different elements of Light and Darkness, until finally becoming Transcendent. Finally a burst of Light ripped Ghost and the Guardian from the vision, leaving them in a mysterious space filled with Light.[119]

Ghost asked the Guardian if they're alright, and told them he thinks they're in the Traveler. Ghost tried to reach Mara and the Vanguard, but couldn't find any signal from them, or anyone in Sol. He sensed the Light everywhere, even in the grass and air. He was also surprised by the beauty, and familiarity of the place as they traveled through the Lost City Outskirts. Eventually they came across what appeared to be City architecture. Further in, they encountered Grims, with Ghost believing the must be remnants from a species the Witness conquered. Ghost found a wellspring of Light and Darkness, and told the Guardian to channel it, causing them to Transcend. As they continue to traverse through the City, Ghost recognized the street they were on, as well as a nearby shop. Eventually they entered what appeared to be the Hall of Guardians, with a large concentration of Light and Darkness. Ghost wondered if the Guardian could reach out and control the paracausal energies. The Guardian fused Light and Darkness together, becoming Prismatic, to Ghost's suprise. He wondered how the Guardian removed the line between Light and Darkness. Sensing the Guardian is now stronger than ever before, they follow the transponder signal into what appears to be the Old Tower landing zone. A tornado-like projection of the Witness appeared, and Ghost warned the Guardian to watch out as Taken began to appear.[119]

After the battle, the Traveler sent out a pulse of Light energy, causing Ghost to feel it's pain. The Guardian caught Ghost as he begins to fall. As he began to ask what they're next plan should be, he was interrupted by the sound of a harmonica. They followed the sound to what appeared to be the Speaker's observatory, where they found Cayde-6.[119]

Reuniting the Vanguard[edit]

Ghost was glad to see Cayde-6 again. Despite wanting to catch up, Cayde became increasingly concerned that Crow had not yet returned from his patrol. Ghost asked to speak with the Guardian privately, and Cayde said he would scout ahead and they should catch up with him when they're ready.[120]

Ghost told he Guardian that he performed a scan on Cayde-6, and arrived at the conclusion that it was really him. However, it appeared that his was made of Light, in a similar manner as Ghosts. Despite not being able to channel the Light as a Guardian, Ghost wondered if he could use the Light in some other way. Thinking about the Guardian's new powers, Ghost reflected that he only felt this spectrum of paracausality once before, when he was born during the Collapse. Finally, he told the Guardian they need everyone to stop the Final Shape, and they should start with Crow and Glint.[120]

The Guardian and Ghost searched for Crow and Glint, with Cayde-6 providing support. Cayde told the Ghost that Crow had found an anomaly and was scouting the perimeter. After leaving the Lost City, Ghost saw the bird from his vision, and told the Guardian to follow it, leading them to a barrier blocking the way. Glint got in contact with Cayde and Ghost, telling them Crow went into the anomaly. Ghost told Glint to stay where he is while they try to get past the barrier. The Guardian found a locking mechanism, and Ghost asked Cayde if he had any ideas on how to open it. Glint figured out a connection between the dials, and the Taken Psions in the area, allowing the Guardian to break one of the locks. With two more, Ghost told Glint the Guardian cand handle it from here. Ghost asked Cayde what he thinks about the mysterious bird. Cayde would wonder why none of them want to say it out loud, and Glint would take the step and say it must be the Traveler helping them. After finally breaking through, and entering that anomaly, Ghost called it cancerous, and a blight. Immediately after, the Witness took control of Ghost. He panicked as the Witness tried to destroy him, but he resisted and pushed back the Witness, severely damaging his shell. The Guardian arrived upon a statue of Mara and Crow, and the Witness said how he offered Crow friends and trust, but he refused. Ghost asked the Witness if he used Darkness to exploit Crow's memories, and the Witness said they used Light as well to give them form. After travelling through more memories, Ghost spotted Crow up ahead. Glint panicked at him listening to a Veiled Statue, and Ghost tried to reassure him. Afterwards, Glint and Crow left the anomaly to set up camp with Cayde, with the Guardian and Ghost not far behind.[121]

In the camp, Ghost spoke with the Guardian about how relieved he is to have found Crow and Glint. He suspected that the anomaly was reshaped by the Witness, which is why it had influence there. He also attempted to reassure the Guardian that the damage to his shell is not as bad as it looks. Changing the subject, he said the others noticed an area that looked like the Cradle on Io, and suspected that might be where Ikora Rey went.[120]

The Guardian tuned into the radio and found the H.E.L.M. signal. Mara requested the Vanguard respond, and Ghost strengthened the signal so they could make contact. Despite his efforts, Mara couldn't hear them, but she sensed Crow was listening. Mara updated them on her attempts to breach the portal, and that she will join them as soon as she can.[120]

Ghost described Ikora's ship to Crow, which reminded him that he noticed a similar ship in the Refraction. Opening the gate, Ghost spotted Xivu Arath's Horde ahead. Ghost examined motes dropped by some of the Hive, and determined they were concentrated Darkness. The Guardian used the Darkness to bring down the barrier in front of them. Past the barrier, Ghost spotted more of the Witness's new creations, the Husks. Crow asked Ghost if there is any sign of Ikora or Ophiuchus, to which he replied there wasn't. Further ahead, Ghost warned the Guardian of more Hive approaching. He pondered the balance between Light and Darkness after both were required to pass the next barrier. The Guardian and Ghost approached the crashed ship, and confirmed it to be Ikora's. Later on the Guardian defeated the Pillar of Silence, and Ghost spotted Light forging a path forwards. He then detect both Light and Darkness energies nearby. Finally they found Ikora, deep in mediation. Ikora shared that she had a vision of the Traveler screaming, and Ghost shared the vision he and the Guardian had.[122]

Ghost reflected with the Guardian that Ikora always had a strong connection to the Traveler, which is why she didn't need the same faith Zavala has. He also reflected on the Final Shape, and thought that the Witness's idea of an ideal existence is static, and life is supposed to be wild and unpredictable. He compared it to the Light, and thought Zavala would agree. He reminded the Guardian they still need to find Zavala and Targe to reunite the fireteam.[120]

The Guardian and Ghost began their search for Zavala, starting in the Blooming. As the Guardian began to fight House of Salvation forces in the area, Ghost questioned if they really believed in the Final Shape. Ikora noted the seal in front of them is Pyramid technology. Ghost would ask the Guardian to search for a key. With the seal brought down, Ghost examined the Veiled Statue, noting the similarities to those on the Moon, Europa, and in the Black Garden, and acknowledged that it shouldn't be in the Pale Heart. Following Zavala's signal, Ghost thought about how the Traveler uses its terraforming abilities for life, while the Witness uses it to reshape the Pale Heart into its own image. Arriving in the Seclusion, Ghost would warn the Guardian of incoming Fallen. Traveling through another anomaly, the Witness told the Guardian that it offered to revive Hakim for Zavala. Targe reminded the Witness that he said no. Ghost was surprised to see him, but Targe told them they had to leave as it wasn't safe. Finally finding Zavala, the Guardian helped him eliminate the Fallen, with Ghost being relived when they were finally defeated. However, Targe reminded him there are always more.[123]

Ghost shared with the Guardian that it was hard when everyone came together. Instead of it feeling right with the Vanguard together, Ghost was more concerned with Zavala mental state, a concern also shared by Ikora and Trage. Ikora said she would check in on Zavala while the rest of them pushed forward towards the Monolith.[120]

Over the Mountain[edit]

Ghost accompanied the Guardian, Cayde-6, and Crow, as they pushed forwards towards the Monolith. Entering a cave, Ghost noticed having Cayde back was almost like he was never gone. He believed that it was the Traveler that brought him back, because it knew it had to make the fireteam whole again. Exiting the cave onto an icy cliff, another pulse of Light from the Traveler caused the Ghost to cry out in pain. Climbing the mountain, Ghost and the Guardian entered a building built inside the mountain itself. Inside, Ghost spotted a Vex Mind in charge of the Taken and Sol Divisive in the area. Defeating the Vex Mind, Ghost and Glint picked up on a signal that it was obscuring. Exiting the building, Ghost pointed the Guardian in the direction of the cars where the Guardian was raised, much to Ghost's suprise. The Guardian channelled the Light, granting them access to a new Super ability. Ghost quickly alerted the Guardian to a rapidly approaching group of Taken, allowing them to test out their new power. Afterwards Ghost realized that wasn't just the Light, but a gift from the Traveler itself.[124]

Ghost told the Guardian they were brought here and chosen by the Traveler for a reason. He sensed the Guardian growing stronger, and believed the Traveler is preparing them to be its champion. He thought Ikora was right, and they needed to commune with the Traveler instead of striking the Witness. He decided they should catch up with Cayde and Crow to see if they have a plan.[120]

Message from the Traveler[edit]

Cayde-6 and Crow contacted the Ghost to share a new plan: find a fissure of Light to communicate with the Traveler. Cayde and Crow backtracked to look for fissures, but Glint detected one near the Guardian in the Broken Deep. Ghost performed resonant imaging, detecting a concentration of Light deep in the cave. The Guardian and Ghost traveled through, defeating Rhalis, Subjugator of the Light, but when they approached the fissure it was covered in branches radiating Darkness energy. Glint detected another concentration of Light back in the Blooming.[125]

Arriving in the Blooming, Ghost couldn't find a clear path to the concentration of Light. The Guardian found the way into the Forgotten Deep, and Ghost was surprised to find Lucent Hive. The Guardian and Ghost traveled deeper, and defeated Ei Räkosh, Banisher of Memory. Finding the concentration of Light, they found it was also being suppressed by the Darkness branches. However, Glint had one more set of telemetric data.[126]

As Ghost and the Guardian began searching for the final concentration of Light, Ghost asked Crow if he also experienced visions from the Traveler while entering the Pale Heart. He didn't, and asked the Ghost what he saw. Ghost and the Guardian entered the Blooming Deep, and discovered a Hive Lightbearer helping them defeat the Hive. The Guardian, Ghost, and the Hive Lightbearer worked together and purged the area of Taken. The Lightbearer would reveal herself to be Luzaku, and she infiltrated the Black Fleet on Savathûn's orders, finding herself in the Pale Heart. The Traveler called her to the Blooming Deep where she protected the young Tree of Silver Wings growing there. Ghost wondered if it was a trick, but ultimately called Cayde-6 and Crow so they could commune with the untouched concentration of Light. After Cayde witnessed the vision, Ghost spoke with concern and told him to share when he was ready. Ghost thanked Luzaku, and she shared that she intends to protect the area.[127]

Back at camp, Ghost spoke with the Guardian about Cayde-6's vision. He was hoping for more, as they all know the Guardian creed, but is concerned that the last part is "death". If they don't survive, Ghost wanted the Guardian to know that he is with him always.[120]

Approaching the Monolith[edit]

Cayde-6 and Crow scouted a number of paths forward, and Zavala chose the go through the lair of Kataxiia, despite it being the longest and most dangerous route. After emerging from the initial cave, the Guardian and Ghost found Lucent Hive, and he speculated they were from Luzaku's former Brood. Up ahead Ghost spotted a Taken Wizard, but noticed it wasn't attacking them. Despite it being the source of the sludge blocking the path, the Guardian couldn't damage its shield. Ghost decided to use the Ahamkara skulls resonating with Taken energy, successfully destroying the Wizard. As the fireteam progressed, Ghost asked Ikora if they should be concerned about the pulsing Ahamkara guts lining the wall. Ikora remarked that he should always be worried when there are guts on the walls. Upon entering another room, Ghost alerted the Guardian of the Tormentor Kataxiia ahead. After wounding it, Ghost alerted the Vanguard that it fled, but it won't get far. He detected the enemy signature of Mhakt, but it quickly fled leaving behind Dread. After defeating them, Ghost and the Guardian entered a portal leading them to a mysterious city. Ghost commented that it looked unlike any place they've ever seen, before quickly detecting numerous Taken signatures. After the Guardian defeated the hostiles, Ghost would inform Ikora and Zavala that the town has pyramidal architecture, but in a different, older style. The Guardian and Ghost left the city and encountered Kataxiia in another cave. After the Tormentor was severely wounded, Lucent Hive began to swarm the fireteam. The Guardian prevailed and eliminate the hostile forces, and Ghost informed the Vanguard that the way is clear.[128]

Ghost informed the Guardian that Zavala left camp on his own, to "give himself to the Darkness" in an attempt to uncover the Witness's weakness. Ghost knew that not everyone might survive this battle, but he didn't expect Zavala to accept Cayde's vision as confirmation that he needed to sacrifice himself to stop the Witness. Targe needed Ghost and the Guardian's help tracking down Zavala, to stop him before it's too late.[120]

As Ghost and the Guardian began tracking Zavala, Ghost asked Targe what he said before he left. Targe replied that he simply said he was going for a walk. They came across a Veiled Statue and Ghost asked if Targe could get them to talk. Ghost saw a storm up ahead, but Targe ensured him it was a good sign that they are on the right path. Ghost wondered if the statues were threatening or warning them when one said Zavala will "become one among many". Ikora joined the search, and despite Ghosts being surprised, she ensured him that this is her Fireteam, and of course she would help. After a statue said it could only speak to them in Darkness, Ghost wondered if these "dissenters" still had a connection to the Witness. Ghost became increasingly concerned for Zavala as he realized nobody could survive giving themselves to Darkness. After leaving the storm, Targe would feel a surge of energy but still couldn't pinpoint Zavala. Ghost tried to reassure him, only causing him to panic. He asked Ghost how he would feel if it was his Guardian they were looking for, and Ghost was at a loss for words. Further ahead Ghost realized the signal they chose to follow was coming from another Aegis, with no sign of Zavala. A swarm of Scorn and Dread appeared, led by the Pillar of Devotion. After the Guardian defeated two subjugators, the barrier blocking the Aegis dropped, and Ghost told them to grab the shield. After defeating the hostiles, Ghost told the Guardian they needed to catch up with Targe. Soon after, Ghost panicked as the building began to fall apart.[129]

After Targe sacrificed himself to save Zavala, Ghost shared with the Guardian that Targe was his role model. He hopes his Light returned to the Traveler, like Sundance and himself one day. He didn't want his sacrifice to be in vain, and told the Guardian they need to find the place the Dissenters mentioned, where the Witness was made, and can be unmade.[120]

As they began their journey to the ritual site, Ghost contacted Cayde-6 on a secure channel to ask how Zavala is doing. Hostile forces begin appearing, and Ghost began to say this won't be easy, but was interrupted by the Witness. Ghost warned Ikora that they had a Taken blockade ahead, to which she replied she was flighting a swarm of Hive. When it was cleared Ghost informed Ikora, but she was still busy fighting Hive and told them to keep moving. Encountering another barrier, Ghost told the Guardian he detected resonant energy, and there should be a way past it. Later on while fighting a Taken Ogre, Ghost spotted another Aegis, and knew the Traveler was still trying to help them. Inside the monolith, Ghost was disturbed by the calcified animals. The Guardian then came across a calcified version of the old War Table, and the Vanguard. The Witness began to offer the Guardian godhood, but Ghost interrupted them, angering the Witness. Ghost told them it wouldn't make that offer unless it was terrified of what the Guardian could do. Cayde asked why the channel went dead, and Ghost simply replied with "the Witness". He informed the Vanguard that they made it to the ritual site, and Zavala told them to give themselves to Darkness, but stay vigilant, and stay alive. Suddenly, the Witness manifested itself, summoning Dread reinforcements. Ghost tried to request support from the Vanguard, but they also faced an influx of hostiles. The Witness began summoning a tornado of darkness, and the Guardian used another Aegis to protect itself at Ghost's command. After defeating Lenurae, Ghost spotted a sword of Light and told the Guardian to grab it. Ghost commented that the Traveler was still helping, and told the Guardian to enter the Darkness. After the Guardian destroyed a Dissenter, they were teleported back to the ritual site. Ghost noticed something wrong with the air, and asked the Guardian to be careful. Ghost contacted the Vanguard to tell them that they solved the riddle. In the Darkness, the Dissenters are still a part of the Witness and destroying them will destroy the Witness. Cayde told them that they had to enter the Darkness again. After destroying the third statue, Ghost screamed in agony as the Witness forcefully removed him and the Guardian from the Darkness. Zavala told them to escape while they held the Witness off, and Ikora said to be brave. The Guardian, severely wounded, used the Aegis to escape through the storm, with Ghost encouraging them to keep moving. To Ghost's suprise, Mara arrived just in time with the H.E.L.M. and transmated them inside just before the Taken and Dread could reach them.[130]

Rallying the Coalition[edit]

Back in the Lost City, Ghost excitedly told the Guardian that they now know how to defeat the Witness. He told the Guardian they will use Darkness to navigate it, and Light to destroy it. First however, they have to loosen the Witness's hold on the Traveler, as they aren't currently strong enough. Ghost commented that their allies are here and ready to help. He himself shares that despite being in a rough shape, he is ready to do whatever it takes.[120]

Mara Sov warned the Guardian and Ghost of a swarm of Lucent Hive heading towards the Lost City. Ghost wondered if they were coming to help the Coalition prevent the Final Shape, but Mara noted there were too many to be from Luzaku's Brood. Ghost and the Guardian headed down to the outskirts to confront the Brood.[131]

Ghost and the Guardian met Micah-10, who requested their help finding lost Ghosts to be brought to the Pale Heart in an effort to remove the corruption. After returning the first lost Ghost, the Guardian's Ghost noticed the Arbor of Light had grown, and took it as a sign that the Traveler was healing. Micah-10 provide data on the next missing Ghost, and asked the Guardian to make sure they take care of their own Ghost.[132]

Returning to the Arbor of Light with another lost Ghost, the Guardian's Ghost commented that the place made him feel safe. He wondered if it was changing because of the Traveler, or its memories. Micah-10 sent Ghost data on the location of the next lost Ghost.[133]

Returning once more, Ghost enthusiastically points out the differences since their efforts to heal the Traveler.[134]

With the Ghosts from Micah's flock rescued, she began to look into unpartnered Ghosts outside the Pale Heart. First on her list was Peach, last seen in the Cosmodrome. Ghost confidently stated that if she was last seen in the Cosmodrome, they should be able to track her down. Ghost picked up her signal, and the Guardian successfully brought her back to the Pale Heart.[135]

Next on Micah's list was Link, a member of the Watchful Eye last seen in the Ocean of Storms. Ghost knew Link as a smart Ghost, and for him to be on the Moon at a time like this meant something serious must have happened. Deep in the Hellmouth, Ghost found evidence that Link was studying the Nightmares. Cayde wondered if he was trying to figure out where they came from, but Ghost uncomfortably told him they had already known for years, and they weren't really a threat anymore. Ghost then picked up his signal further in the Moon.[136]

Micah provided intel for the last known location of Dejana. Ghost urgently wanted to rescue Dejana from the Taken, knowing they are even a threat to Guardians. Landing in Trostland, Ghost picked up massive spikes in Taken energy, and suspected they had retaken the dam. After clearing the Taken, Ghost informed the fireteam that the Taken energies were receding, but he was picking up on spatial anomalies. He realized it was caused by the Final Shape, which had reached Earth. Picking up on Dejana's trail, it led the team to the Dark Forest.[137]

While searching for Bean, Ghost checked in on Failsafe, but she had no further information and seemed distracted. Upon arriving in the Insight Terminus, Cayde recognized the place, and mentioned Failsafe loves it. Ghost replied that she will be happy to know some of her old friends are here. Soon after he picked up on a detachment of Red Legion deserters. Cayde questioned who their current leadership is, and Micah though it might be an independent Cabal warlord, whereas Ghost thought they might be working for the Shadow Legion. The Guardian encountered Kargen, much to Ghost's suprise. He told the Guardian to follow him and figure out what he's up to. While looking for Bean's signal, Ghost also worked on accessing the data Kargen was taking from the Vex network. After Kargen was defeated, he pinpointed Bean's location deeper in Nessus, and noticed Kargen was trying to access data on OXA again. Ghost noticed that OXA and the device the Future War Cult used might actually be based on the same design. He revealed Kargen was also collecting data on the Veil for Otzot. However, the logs revealed Maya Sundaresh blocked Kargen before he could obtain more data.[138]

Ghost and the Guardian followed Akasha's trail to the Dreaming City. Ghost commented that not many Ghosts search for their Guardian in the Dreaming City due to the curse, with Glint being an unusual exception. Tracking her trail, Ghost noticed her path jumping in and out, and Crow explained she was probably skipping through the Ascendant Plane. Crow and Glint created a sensor module to help Ghost track the trail into the Ascendant Plane. Ghost was hopeful that they could find Akasha before anything happened to her. He suspected that she was analysing the Ley Lines from the Ascendant Plane, looking for something. After the Guardian stopped a ritual, Ghost picked up her signal not too far away in the Dreaming City.[139]

While searching for Citrine, Ghost commented on the unpredictability of the time rifts on Mars. He thought it was a shame they couldn't actually affect the past through them. He picked up Citrine's signal, pinpointing her to the Enclave where the Hidden told her to wait for them. Ghost thanked Mara for sealing the time rift at the Warmind facility.[140]

Micah tracked Anwar's last known location the the Europan Pyramid. Ghost nervously told the Guardian that he didn't like the idea of going back to the Pyramid, but felt that he didn't really have a choice. Elsie sent Micah data on a dispatch of Cabal heading their way. Ghost suspected they were more of Otzot's people. Heading deep into the Pyramid, the Guardian and Ghost arrived at a Veiled Statue, where Ghost lost Anwar's signal. Micah sadly informed Ghost that Elsie had just found his remains at the Ziggurat. Ghost shared his sympathy with Micah, and told her they would collect his remains. Cayde then decided to meet with Ghost to talk.[141]

Travelling to the Court of Savathûn, Ghost commented that he hated the place, as he felt that Savathûn was always watching, even when she was dead. Following Heilung's trail, the Guardian and Ghost arrived at the Temple of the Cunning, where they accidentally triggered the alarm summoning an Ahamkara. Ghost warned the Guardian that despite being an illusion, it was still deadly. During the fight, Ghost realized Heilung was watching them, and began tracking her coordinates. The Guardian and Ghost escaped, and informed Micah that they would find Heilung.[142]

Ghost and the Guardian travelled to the Lunar Pyramid searching for Balthazar. Ghost remarked that he hated this Pyramid as well. He wondered why the Nightmares didn't disappear after Nezarec was defeated, but suspected the Pyramid must be partially responsible as well. Micah questioned if Nezarec was truly dead, and Ghost warned her they needed to face one Nightmare at a time. Confronting he Nightmare of Ghaul, Ghost wondered how many times the Guardian had to kill him. Confronting the Nightmare of the Fanatic, Ghost warned it that one day Crow would find Fikrul and end him. After defeating the Nightmare of Crota, Ghost would here the Witness and panic, only to realize it was actually a recording left behind. The team leaves the Pyramid to track Balthazar's new coordinates.[143]

The Guardian and Ghost travelled to the Cosmodrome to look for Hecate. Ghost thought it was fitting that they ended where they began. Approaching the Devil's Lair, Cayde would be impressed by the amount of Fallen hostile ahead, and Ghost said it was just like old times. Ghost noted that the Brigs were from House of Salvation, but weren't flying their colors, coming to the conclusion that they might be pirates. Ghost tracked Heacte's location to where he raised the Guardian.[144]

Ghost did a lot of thinking and despite not being enthusiastic about the Guardian using Darkness in the past, realized they need both Light and Darkness to defeat the Witness. To that end, he investigated potentially areas with sources of Light and Darkness in the Pale Heart and shared them with the Guardian, believing it's what the Traveler wants.[145]

Ghost noticed the Guardian had been causing paracausal ripples throughout the Place Heart.[146][147] He travelled with the Guardian to the Refraction where he believed the ripples could be manifested into a wellspring of power.[147]

Ghost accompanied Ikora, Mithrax, and the Guardian as they investigated House of Salvation operations in the Blooming. When the Guardian first engaged a group of Fallen, they sent him to hack into their systems. Ghost discovered a map of the flow of paracausal energy through the Pale Heart, and copied it. Reading the data, he sent Mithrax and the Guardian to the roots of the Tree of Silver Wings in the Blooming.[148]

Ghost followed the Guardian and Mithrax to Riis-Reborn where they hunted down Korha, the Hollow. Ghost spoke his support for Mithrax, and hoped to avoid drawing more Eliksni into the fight. Ghost would question his personal reasons for wanting Korha dead, and Mithrax shared that Korha was the one who killed his mother.[149]

Ghost later travelled with the Guardian to the Seclusion where he believed the ripples could be manifested into a wellspring of power.[146]

Ghost accompanied the Guardian, Zavala, and Caiatl as they investigated Shadow Legion activity at the Transmigration. Ghost found an extractor, and realize the Shadow Legion are attempting to harvest the Light.[150]

Mara detected spikes in Taken energy in the Refraction, and sent Ghost and the Guardian to investigate. The Guardian would fight Taken and Hive, eventually approaching a Taken barrier. Mara told the Guardian to kill Taken, which allowed her to channel the energy to make the Guardian stand on the threshold of being Taken, much to Ghost's suprise. Later on, he would sense Light, but not physically see it. Mara channelled Taken energy again, allowing the Guardian to liberate hidden fissures of Light. After the Taken and Dread were defeated, Ghost told Savathûn that if she wanted to help, she should commit her forces to fighting the Witness instead of the Coalition, to which Savathûn laughed.[151]

Ghost had some thoughts about the Guardian's new power, but it wasn't safe in the Refraction so he waited until they returned to the Lost City. Once in the Lost City, Ghost would notice that despite being able to channel both Light and Dark simultaneously, it remained unbalanced and threatened to tear the Guardian apart. The Dyadic Prism began resonating, and he believed it was leading the Guardian to unify the Light and Darkness.[145]

The Final Assault[edit]

The Guardian led a fireteam of twelve against the Witness, surrounded by their allies. As they begin defeating Cornerstones of the Witness, Ghost reminded them that he is with them until the end. As the barrier blocking the way is lowered, Ghost contacted Zavala to inform him the fireteam in engaging with the Witness. The Guardian retrieved a new sword of Light, and Ghost reminded them to destroy the Veiled Statues. Weakening the Witness, Ghost encouraged the Guardian to give it all he has. Finally, all the statues were destroyed and he told the Guardian he knew what he had to do. He told the Guardian to channel the Light through him. The Light concentrated into a beam, breaking the Witness's shields as Ghost screamed in pain. The Witness was destroyed, and Ghost congratulated the Guardian. However, he was severely weakened, and after hovering up in the air, the Light faded from him and he dropped to the ground, dead. Devastated, the Guardian ran over and picked him up, calling out to him. The Guardian looked up to see they were in a mysterious place filled with Light. They begged the Traveler to bring Ghost back, but received no response. Cayde appeared, impressed by Ghost's sacrifice. He commented on how Sundance told him everything made by the Light returns to the Light, and that Guardians, Ghosts, and the Traveler are all connected. He told the Guardian to tell the others that this was his choice, as he placed his hands on Ghost. Cayde returned to the Light, and the Guardian and Ghost are once more in the battlefield. The Guardian looked down at Ghost as his eye flickered to life. He gasped to life, and quoted what he said when he first resurrected the Guardian. Overwhelmed the Guardian embraces Ghost. The war against the Witness was over.[152]

Future Saved[edit]

Back in the Tower, Ikora, Crow, and Zavala celebrated the defeat of the Witness. The Guardian and Ghost joined them just in time for them to light lanterns to commemorate the victory. Ghost asked what happens next, and the Guardian said they would face the future when it comes.[152]

The Guardian and Ghost watched from the H.E.L.M. in silence as the Traveler began emitting a mysterious aura followed by comet-like objects flying out of the portal to the Pale Heart.[152]

Ghost remained quiet throughout the celebrations, leading the Guardian to check in on him. He shared that after coming back to life, he can still feel the presence of all the Ghosts and Guardians they've lost. He reflected that the Witness wanted to provide purpose to the universe, but purpose is for them to choose, such as Cayde deciding to revive Ghost. He then asked the Guardian what they want their future to be.[120]

Following the death of the Witness, Ghost remained the Destination Vendor for the Pale Heart, providing bounties and rewards to the Guardian.[120]

Upon discovering a mysterious object imbued with the Traveler's memories, Micah-10 attempted to interpret. She felt the collapse, and the birth of the Ghosts. Ghost and Glint discussed an old theory among Ghosts that if they died, their Light returned to the Traveler. While Micah didn't know for sure, she agreed with Ghost hoping that in the end Ghosts would be reunited with those they've lost.[153]

After helping Luzaku to clear out the Taken from the Blooming Deep again, Ghost asked Luzaku why she hadn't joined back up with the rest of the Lucent Brood. Luzaku explained that she sought to follow her own path and that her newfound freedom was like a prison of her own making. She didn't understand this but hoped that she would understand in time. Ghost agrees and leaves her to continue contemplating.[154]

Upon returning the Arbor of Light after finishing their work to heal the Traveler, Ghost told the Guardian that he was glad that after everything they could help the Traveler in return.[155]

Disturbance on Nessus[edit]

This section needs expansion. You can help Destinypedia by expanding it.

Saint-14 would speak with Ghost at the H.E.L.M. to learn if his experiences with the Witness taking control of him might be similar to the Nessian Schism. Ghost admitted he's not sure, but wouldn't wish it on anyone, not even the Vex. Saint then asked if she spoke with Osiris, as he had a similar experience when his body was taken over by Savathûn, but Ghost didn't want to bring up bad memories for him. He said the first time it happened on Europa, he wasn't sure if he could trust himself anymore. Later when it happened on Neptune, he almost wished his Guardian had fired their shot and ended him. Saint told him that it is only the Vex on Nessus, and they have nothing to fear.[156]

Ghost assisted Failsafe by extracting data from Confluxes throughout the Tangle. Failsafe showed concern for Ghost, and asked the Guardian to make sure they're taking care of him after all he's been through lately.[157]

Failsafe reported an increase in Vex and Fallen combatants in and around the Exodus Black crash site. The Guardian was sent to clear them out, with Saint-14 and Failsafe providing support. Ghost hacked into the Fallen machinery generating a barrier, and determined it was some sort of Arc energy siphon. The Guardian defended him, and Ghost successfully brought down the barrier. Entering a cave beneath the Exodus Black, Ghost was alarmed by the darkness, and Saint told them to keep their guard up. Entering a large room, Ghost heard a sound revealed to be Pykis. After Pykis was severely wounded, Ghost told the Guardian that the floors conducts Arc energy, and can be used to their advantage.[158]

As the Guardian travelled deeper into the core of Nessus following the flow of radiolaria, their progress was halted by a Vex barrier. Ghost began hacking a nearby conflux while the Guardian defended him, eventually clearing the way further into the core.[159]

Personality[edit]

Ghost is shown to be loyal and selfless, as he has stuck by the Guardian in some of their darkest times and has never hesitated to help others (his Guardian in particular). He is shown to care deeply for his Guardian as a friend, as he disregarded his own physical condition during the beginning of the Red War to heal his Guardian (who had been in a critical state at the time). He is genuinely glad that the Traveler chose the Guardian as his Risen. However, he seems to dislike going into harm's way; when the Guardian still talked regularly, it was generally their idea to go someplace dangerous. As their relationship evolved, the Guardian became more taciturn, generally allowing Ghost to speak for them. Though generally very chatty, Ghost is somewhat insecure and possessive; this may be because it took him longer than usual to find the Guardian, and how he had begun losing hope before he had. When Sagira borrowed his shell out of necessity, it seemed to upset him more that his Guardian was working with a different Ghost than that his own body had been possessed. When Ana Bray called him "one of the uptight Ghosts", it elicited a laugh from the Guardian, who knew him best. The Drifter also observed that Ghost can be feisty.

However, like his Guardian, Ghost does possess a dark side as he desires vengeance against Uldren and the Scorn for Cayde-6's murder, even agreeing to defy orders from Zavala to hunt them down. Ghost was serious and sullen during the hunt for the Scorn Barons, hardly being his usual chatty self. Despite this, Ghost did begin to question their mission to avenge Cayde as they got closer to their goal, finally stating that killing the weakened and powerless Uldren was wrong. Even before then, he had compiled a list of things he wished to say to his Guardian, among them expressing his discomfort with their apparent rampage.[160]

Following the vendetta against Uldren, Ghost has become serious, mission-focused and less cheery but he remains steadfast in helping friends and allies. Though less talkative and cheery, Ghost is slowly regaining his sense of humor.

Prior to the events of Beyond Light, Ghost has never voiced objections to some of his Guardian's other dark pursuits, such as the acquisition of a Thorn, which speaks to his loyalty towards the Guardian. This is not to say that Ghost is approving of any attempts to weaponize the Darkness and its petitioners; he refuses to recognize the Drifter's heavily-modified Ghost as a Ghost, instead referring to it as a "thing" or "machine".[161][162]

During The Witch Queen, many of Ghost's insecurities were forced to the surface, primarily having to come to terms with how many other Ghosts had turned to work for the Hive. At first, Ghost couldn't fathom seeing the Hive wielding the Light and having Ghosts of their own, denouncing the Hive Ghosts as traitors. It was these feelings that had Ghost act somewhat hostile towards Fynch, a renegade Hive Ghost but would accept him as an ally. Alongside this was his rage when Savathûn, the Witch Queen asked him how he felt being the bad guy in the eyes of the Traveler, to which he responded in abject anger pointing out all the horrendous things the Hive had done to Ghosts and Humanity, leaving Savathûn silent. Further, he firmly stated his commitment and loyalty to humanity, proclaiming he would rather die than betray humanity.
