"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1[edit]

Visit Micah-10 in the Lost City in the Pale Heart.

Transcript[edit]

So I found telemetry for Bean. He's a handful, always rushing off into hostile territory. He and I tend to cross paths on remote scouting missions, so the fact that his beacon pinged from Nessus shouldn't surprise me. But that's what I like about him. No fear, no hesitation. Bean just plows through. We need that kind of energy here. Go make sure he didn't get caught in a temporal loop or some other Vex nonsense. I'll keep an eye on things here.

Step 2[edit]

Search for Ghost telemetry in strike "Insight Terminus" on Nessus.

  • Coordinates found

Ghost: Been a while since we've been to the Insight Terminus. I checked in with Failsafe and she says she hasn't seen Bean, but she seemed distracted... like something else was going on.

Transcript[edit]

(Mission begins)

  • Micah-10: Nessus. I spent a lot of time out here mapping the Vex network access points with the Coyotes. I know this place like the back of my hand.
  • Cayde-6: Hey, me too! I mean, I did less mapping and more, y'know, getting trapped. Oh, I should... say something to Failsafe, tell her hi or something.
  • Micah-10: I thought you weren't going to be doing a sentimental tour?
  • Cayde-6: I'm not. I'm not! I'm just — you know? One or two letters won't hurt; she deserves as much.
  • Micah-10: As for our wayward Ghost, I've tracked Bean into the Insight Terminus. We should look for him there.
  • Cayde-6: Hey, I know that place! Failsafe loves it.
  • Ghost: We'll she'll be happy to know some of her old friends are there too. I'm... picking up a detachment of Red Legion landing in the vicinity now.
  • Cayde-6: OK, I know I've been out of the loop, but the Red Legion, they're... gone, right? They're, like, gone-gone?
  • Micah-10: Sort of. Their leadership is, which means this is either a Red Legion warlord acting on his own...
  • Ghost: Or they answer to the Shadow Legion. I don't like either option.

The Guardian fights their way through the Cabal to get to the Insight Terminus and finds Kargen interfacing with a Vex Conflux.

  • Ghost: Wait, that's... that's Kargen! That's impossible, he's dead!
  • Cayde-6: Yeah, well... sometimes that doesn't stick.
  • Ghost: Follow him! We need to find out what he's doing here.

The Guardian pursues Kargen. Once they reach the Quiet Epiphaney, the find and scan a calcified statue before engaging Kargen.

  • Ghost: There's no doubt about it, that's Kargen. And he's trying to tap into the Vex network again.
  • Micah-10: I hate to say it, but this might answer a long-standing question I had about Cabal cloning programs. Apparently, they can clone Psions.
  • Cayde-6: Wait, this guy's a clone?! Gee, you die for just a little while...
  • Ghost: Whatever's going on, we have to stop him. I'll try and pin down what data he's accessing while I look for Bean's signal.

The Guardian defeats Kargen.

  • Cayde-6: And stay down!
  • Ghost: I've got Bean's signal. It looks like he's gone deeper into Nessus. It should be easy to follow him. As for what Kargen's clone was doing here, it looks like he was trying to access Vex data on OXA again.
  • Micah-10: That's the Psion prediction machine, right? Sees the future in branching paths? Future War Cult had something similar.
  • Ghost: Based on what I'm seeing here, I... I can't be sure they aren't the same thing. The same design. But I don't know how that's possible. Kargen was trying to access the Sol Divisive's research on the Veil as well. I don't understand how all these things are connected. But I can tell where the orders are coming from. A Psion named Otzot, and these orders are recent. I think there might be defector branches within the Shadow Legion... Ones not loyal to the Witness.
  • Micah-10: And they're trying to pin down potential outcomes, make plans for what, the event of our success?
  • Ghost: Maybe. But it looks like something blocked them, but I... I don't know how that's possible.
  • Micah-10: Why? What stopped Kargen?
  • Ghost: If this log is correct... Maya Sundaresh did.
  • Cayde-6: Maya, wha — why does that name sound so familiar?
  • Micah-10: Why don't you and I talk about that offline, Cayde. Let the Guardian and Ghost track down Bean.
  • Cayde-6: Yeah, yeah, that — that — that sounds good.

(Mission ends)

Step 3[edit]

Search Nessus for signs of Bean.

  • Orders read

Micah-10: The Exodus Black has become a site of interest for unpartnered Ghosts hoping to resurrect a Golden Age pioneer as their Guardian. But something tells me that's not why Bean is out there.

Notes[edit]

Bean can be found in the Pools of Luminance beneath a statue of a segmented Hydra.

Step 4[edit]

Return to the Arbor of Light in the Pale Heart to restore the Lost Ghost.

  • Ghost Restored

Micah-10: Bean could use a little boost of extra Light to get him on his way. Thankfully, we have an abundant source on hand in the Arbor.

Step 5[edit]

Return to the Arbor of Light to discuss next steps.

  • Micah-10 Visited

Micah-10: Come on back to the Arbor, we can discuss your findings.

Transcript[edit]

I'm glad you were able to rescue Bean, he's going to be a great asset to healing the Traveler. I can't help but be worried about what you found while searching for him. I thought the Psion defectors sided with the Witness... but it's looking more and more like that may be a deception. There's something else going on here. Something we're going to have to tackle head-on in the future, if we're lucky.
