Monte Carlo is an Exotic Auto Rifle introduced exclusively in Destiny for PlayStation players. The rifle looks different from many other auto rifles in that the front of the weapon has a bayonet. It was once a purely cosmetic attachment that could not be used until the introduction of its catalyst in Season of the Witch, which allowed players to utilize it for powerful melee attacks. A Year Two version of Monte Carlo was reintroduced in The Taken King. It was reintroduced in Destiny 2 during Season of the Undying in the Shadowkeep annual pass.
Gameplay[edit]
Year One[edit]
The Year One version of Monte Carlo was only available in the PS3 & PS4 versions of Destiny until September 2015, after which is was made available across both platforms (Xbox and PlayStation). Upgrades increase the weapon's hip fire effectiveness and reduces the cooldown for the player's melee ability, providing a firm grounding for close range domination.[1]
Year Two[edit]
Monte Carlo was made available across all platforms and functions similarly to its Year One version.
Upgrades[edit]
Barrel upgrades[edit]
- CQB Ballistics: Greatly reduced recoil. Significant penalty to range.
- Smart Drift Control: Predictable and controllable recoil. Penalty to range.
- Aggressive Ballistics: More predictable recoil. Enhanced impact. Shorter range and more recoil.
Special perk[edit]
- Hip Fire: This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip.
Stat modifiers[edit]
- High Caliber Rounds: Oversize rounds built to stagger targets and leave them reeling. Their mass makes a weapon harder to handle.
- Send It: Increases range and accuracy. Harder to handle. Decreases carried Ammo capacity.
- Field Scout: Increases carried Ammo capacity.
Exotic perk[edit]
- Monte Carlo Method: Dealing damage with this weapon reduces your melee cooldown and grants a chance to fully charge your melee ability with each kill. [2]
Destiny 2[edit]
Monte Carlo returns in Destiny 2 with the same exotic perk, Monte Carlo Method.
Perks[edit]
Fluted Barrel
- Ultralight Barrel
- Greatly increases handling speed
- Slightly increases stability
High-Caliber Rounds
- Shots from this weapon knock the target back further
- Slightly increases range
Markov Chain
- This weapon gains increased damage from melee kills and kills with this weapon. Melee kills grant ammo for this weapon
Composite Stock
- This weapon has a versatile dual-purpose stock
- Slightly increases stability
- Slightly increases handling speed
Catalyst[edit]
Stochastic Vengeance
- At 5 stacks of Markov Chain, pressing [Alternate Weapon Action] switches between your melee attack and Monte Carlo's bayonet. Landing a bayonet melee hit grants melee energy.
Lore[edit]
There will always be paths to tread and methods to try. Roll with it.

Trivia[edit]
- The gun's name and descriptive text are a reference to the Monte Carlo method, which is a mathematical modeling method used to simulate complex phenomena and probabilities, such as the behavior of liquids and gases, the development of galaxies, and a number of other practical and theoretical applications.
- Given that it comes with the unique perk Markov Chain, it could also be a reference to the Markov Chain, which is a class of algorithms for sampling from a probability distribution. By constructing a Markov chain that has the desired distribution as its equilibrium distribution, one can obtain a sample of the desired distribution by recording states from the chain. The more steps that are included, the more closely the distribution of the sample matches the actual desired distribution.
- The signature perk of this weapon, the Monte Carlo Method, gives this weapon a chance to refill the user's melee attack after doing damage, and the gun also has one of the highest base reload speeds and stability amounts of any auto rifle without using any perk slots.
