"In battle, you can only count on two things: your comrades and your Khvostov."
— unattributed, Golden Age military expression.

The Khvostov 7G-0X is an Exotic Auto Rifle that can be acquired in the Rise of Iron expansion.[1] It is an exotic version of the Khvostov 7G-02, the very first weapon acquired in Destiny and Destiny 2.

Destiny[edit]

Acquisition[edit]

This gun can be obtained by completing the We Found a Rifle Exotic quest. It will start by finding a Khvostov Schematic either by dismantling the old Khvostov, or opening a chest on the Devil Splicers' Ketch in the Plaguelands where Guardians spawn into the game for the very first time using a Splicer Intel Relay, which can be obtained by killing either Brood Mothers or Brood Enforcers in the Plaguelands. The schematic then must turned in to Shiro-4, thus triggering the quest. You will then have to find 3 Khvostov Weapon Parts, each of which can be found in Dock 13, The Divide, and The Blast respectively, followed by Manual Pages, which can be obtained by killing any enemy in the Plaguelands. Once these parts and pages are turned in, the quest then takes the player back to where they were first found on a mission called A Khvostov Rising to retrieve the upgraded Khvostov by killing Kaviss, Splicer Captain.

Gameplay[edit]

The Khvostov 7G-0X is a unique Exotic in that it doesn't have an Exotic perk. Instead, its Exotic nature stems from the fact that it is highly customizable; there is simply no wrong way to use this weapon. Although the base stats start off in the middle-of-the road, its potential stems from its modularity.

Grimoire[edit]

"In battle, you can only count on two things: your comrades and your Khvostov." unattributed, Golden Age Russian saying

The Khvostov 7G0X was the brainchild of two eras: the Golden Age and the City Age. Shiro-4 used the design schematics for the Khvostov series and a little Guardian ingenuity to craft a modern take on a legendary classic weapon. A fitting tribute to those old weaponsmiths and the newest Iron Lord.

Destiny 2[edit]

Perks[edit]

  • Intrinsic: The Right Choice: Every seventh shot bounces
  • Barrel
  • Magazine
  • Exotic Perk
    • Eyes Up, Guardian: Collecting Orbs of Power strengthens this weapon's next several ricochet shots, allowing them to bounce between multiple targets.
  • 2nd Perk
    • Shoot to Loot: Shooting an Orb of Power picks it up. Shooting an ammo brick picks it up and automatically reloads all of your equipped weapons from reserves.
  • Stock

Acquisition[edit]

In order to get the Khvostov in Destiny 2, players must first acquire its legendary variant, Khvostov 7G-02, by collecting 15 Lost Encryption Bits. These can be found by looting the 9 regional chests in The Pale Heart and by looting the 6 piles of scrap located within the Cyst activities. Cyst activities are unlocked by doing the "Alone in the Dark" quests with Micah-10. Once all 15 bits are acquired, players will get the Lost Encryption Code, which can be used to loot a special region chest located within the Divide that will drop the legendary Khvostov.

Afterwards, players must acquire 17 Motes of Light. This is done by finding all 8 of the "Visions of the Traveler" within the Pale Heart, collectables that take the shape of the Traveler scattered throughout the location, which will drop a Mote of Light each. Then the player must defeat all of the possible bosses in Overthrow, three for each area and totaling to 9 bosses. Each unique boss defeated will drop a Mote of Light on the ground which must be picked up in order to acquire that Mote. When the 15th mote is acquired, it will transform into a "Mote of Primordial Light."

After acquiring the Mote of Primordial Light, players must head to the Lost City where they met Cayde-6 and place all 8 Visions of the Traveler on their pedestals. Once all the pedestals have a Vision, a chest will spawn in the center of the room. Having the Mote of Primordial Light will allow players to open the chest and acquire the Exotic version of Khvostov.

Gameplay[edit]

The D2 version of Khvostov works similar to its D1 counterpart except for its exotic perk, Right Choice which causes every 7th shot to bounce.

"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

"YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU."

Day 1.

The world is dead, but there's peace in the mortuary silence. I'm born into this dead world, where dandelions grow up through layers of ash blanketing miles of desolate road.

Day 673.

There is a stretch of land, a canyon through which water once flowed. A canal cut into the earth, bristling with derelict ships and countless dead. Flowers bloom in many desiccated carcasses. Each component of this world's decomposition has a purpose: water flows, cities decay, flowers bloom. Yet still I search for mine.

Day 1,857.

Oceans are vast, lonely expanses. Though life flourishes in the depths, it's not life that I'm looking for. I thrive on death—search for death. Perhaps my purpose lies below the water, but it's dark, and lonely, and I… I don't want to look there yet. Not when there's so much more horizon.

Day 6,231.

I was careless and someone shot me from all the way across a field. The bullet only chipped my shell, but it spun me around and left me shaken. I don't know who they were or even why I was targeted. I played dead, and no one came for me. I laid in the tall grass for nine days. It rained on the fifth. I acquainted myself with the ants. They are survivors.

Day 36,725.

This world is dead, but life is threatening a return. I don't know when I'll ever fulfill my purpose, but I know what I am. I'm a ghost haunting the grave of humanity. A Ghost with a calling.

Trivia[edit]

  • This weapon, in it's Destiny form, has at least 100 different perk combinations.
  • This weapon would be the only exotic to not have an exotic perk, until it eventually received one in its reprisal in The Final Shape.
    • The effect of Exotic Perk: Right Choice would be yet another nod to Bungie's use of the number 7.
