The Dread are an army of Darkness-wielding entities created by the Witness.

Overview

Main Overview

The Dread are comprised of beings reshaped by the Witness into their "perfected" form using Light stolen from the Traveler. Dread originate from varied sources, with Disciples of the Witness such as Rhulk and Nezarec serving as blueprints for some units such as Subjugators and Tormentors respectively, Weavers, Attendants and Husks being formed respectively from Psions and Fallen that were loyal to the Witness, and Grim being created from the shattered minds of Dissenters within the Witness itself. Some Dread were even created by the Witness from other Dread, with the Subjugators Selin and Yemiq originating as two halves of a dissected Tormentor.

Extended Overview

While most Dread were created within the Traveler's Pale Heart, some Dread have been created outside of it. However, the powers of Light and Darkness are still required, such as those provided by an Echo, as was the case of Shin'ra with the Echo of Conquests and Ir Dralcha with the Echo of Obsession.
