Enter the Altars[edit]
Altars of Summoning, Savathûn’s Throne World
The fireteam uses the Acolyte's Staff to begin the Ritual of Induction. The Spire's mechanisms turns; the ascent now allowing access to the Oubliette.
- Immaru: You must be the exterminators we ordered. Right this way.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Welcome to the Hive, glowbug. You ready to do things our way?
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I love to watch you work, killer. Our Lightbearers could learn a thing or two.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You're in Hive territory now. Live by the sword logic, or die by it.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Glad to see you back on the rampage. Go get some blood on your hands.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Here to kill for power and loot, huh? That's the spirit!
The fireteam uses the Acolyte’s Staff to begin the Ritual of Induction, starting the tithing process.
If successful, they bestow upon themselves Lucent Blessing.
The fireteam moves to the primed Altar.
- Ikora: Keep your head on a swivel, Guardian. There's no knowing what Savathûn locked away behind her magical barriers.
- Immaru: Heh heh. There's only one way to find out. Make an offering and hope you can handle whatever comes out.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: So, you made it to the oubliette. Big deal. Don't pat yourself on the back just yet. If you wanna juice up your little Hive god, you're gonna have to improve your spellcraft, and quick.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I never expected to see you glowbugs fluttering around down here. I figured this place was too gritty for you. The only thing you love more than cracking skulls is acting self-righteous about it. Relax for once. Have fun getting your hands dirty.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: So, you're back. Your trigger finger getting itchy?
- Ikora: The Vanguard is not here to pursue power for its own sake. This mission is a means to an end. Nothing more.
- Immaru: Don't you ever get tired of the same old lies? You get stronger from killing, you're good at it, and you like it.
The fireteam moves to the Altar of Devotion, Feracity, Flesh, or the Sword.
The fireteam prepares before the primed Altar.
- Ikora: I appreciate you stepping up to help Eris, Guardian. After everything the Hive put her through... she needs our support now more than ever.
- Immaru: Anything to keep a lid on her. If she loses her cool, there's no telling what she's capable of.
Or alternatively
- Ikora: Remote scans indicate that the oubliette is larger than we thought. There must be more undiscovered chambers.
- Immaru: Of course. This is Savathûn we're talking about. Even I haven't seen everything in here. Don't worry, you'll get where you need to go. After the boss makes you work for it.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: It's funny. I really never fit in with humanity, or the other Ghosts. But when I found Savathûn... it all fell into place. It was like I'd been part of the Hive all along — I just never knew it. Maybe Eris feels the same.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You Guardians are a lot better at these tithing rituals than I thought you'd be. I don't know why I'm so surprised. You spent the last couple centuries making paste out of the Fallen. You've had plenty of practice.
The fireteam makes a Feeble, Robust, or Powerful Offering to the primed Altar.
The fireteam uses the Acolyte’s Staff to invoke Hive magic, summoning their foes.
- The Altars awaken...
Void Keepers[edit]
Imprisoned Abominations arrive.
- Ikora: Screebs incoming, Guardian. Evasive maneuvers suggested.
Or alternatively
- Ikora: Brace for waves of Scorn, Guardian. Prepare for area-denial operations.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Screebs make perfect tithes — they off themselves. You just gotta survive long enough to collect.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Oops! This one's all Screebs. Heh heh. Have fun.
Void Crystals manifest, bringing with them an influx of Screebs.
The fireteam shatters the Void crystals, exposing the Imprisoned Abominations.
The fireteam defeats the Imprisoned Abominations.
Dkurzii, Plague Spreader arrives.
The fireteam defeats Dkurzii, Plague Spreader.
Arc Singers[edit]
Ei Haaruz, Retainer of Savathûn arrives.
Lucent Conduits and a Lightbearer Hive arrive, protecting Arc crystals.
- Ikora: Savathûn must be performing Light experiments on her own brood. Put a stop to it, Guardian.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Hey, I know these guys! Annoying bunch of jerks, if you ask me. Take 'em out already.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You got extra Hive incoming. Do what you do best, killer.
Or alternatively, starting with Week 7
- Savathûn: Aah... the Lucent brood: my most loyal subjects, and guardians of the Light. Be gentle with your cousins, won't you?
The fireteam conducts the Crystalline Charge, and connects the current.
Using the Arc Light from the crystals, the fireteam uses the Acolyte’s Staff to invoke Hive magic. It shatters the Arc crystals and breaks Ei Haaruz’s shield.
The fireteam defeats Ei Haaruz, Retainer of Savathûn.
Lucent Tribute[edit]
Alak'nar, Retainer of Savathûn arrives.
- Immaru: Watching you kill other Lightbearers for the sword logic is some top notch irony. Proceed.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You got the Lucent Brood on deck. Boy, are they excited to meet you. You're a real "celebrity" around here.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Just because they got the Light, doesn't mean the Lucent Brood ain't expendable. That goes for you, too, Guardian.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: The Lucent Brood are still getting used to their Light. How about you give them a... personal tutorial.
Alak’nar activates the Lucent Totems, shielding themselves.
Tribute Bearers arrives.
The fireteam defeats the Tribute Bearers, taking their tribute to deactivate Alak’nar’s shield.
The fireteam defeats Alak’nar, Retainer of Savathûn.
Taken Reverent[edit]
Axsaeniia, Reverent of the Witness arrives.
- Ikora: Every Taken we eliminate here is one less we'll have to clear out of the Ascendant Plane. Go to work, Guardian.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Savathûn loves experimenting on the Taken. Rip some apart, and see what you find!
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I hear the Taken are working for those Shadow Legion dolts now. Another good reason to wipe 'em out.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I dunno how the Taken follow orders. They're about as smart as a live grenade. And just as dangerous.
Taken Anomalies arrives.
The fireteam defeats the Taken Anomalies, and takes their Taken Essence.
The fireteam uses the Taken Essence to break Axsaeniia’s shield.
The fireteam defeats Axsaeniia, Reverent of the Witness.
Ternary Minds[edit]
The Ternary Minds: Prevailing Mind, Prevenient Mind, and Proximate Mind arrive; inactive.
- Ikora: The Witch Queen managed to imprison scores of Vex. Take them out before the ritual expires.
Or alternatively
- Ikora: I don't know what Savathûn has planned for these Vex... but it can't be good. Clear them out.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Looks like some extra Vex came along for the ride. Deal with them.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: It’s a shame we could never get along with the Vex. Now they gotta die.
The Prevailing Mind awakens, engaging the fireteam.
- A Vex Mind awakens
A group of Hobgoblins arrive, seeking to sacrifice themselves to a manifested conflux.
- A new wave of Vex attempt to sacrifice themselves
If enough Hobgoblins sacrifice themselves
With their sacrifice, a Vex Lens manifests, protecting the Ternary Minds.
The fireteam destroys the Vex Lens.
The fireteam defeats the Prevailing Mind.
The other Vex Minds, Prevenient Mind and Proximate Mind awaken.
The fireteam defeats the Prevenient Mind and Proximate Mind.
Solar Hoarders[edit]
- Immaru: I thought the Fallen couldn't get anymore pathetic. Lo and behold, here come the Scorn. Get rid of ‘em.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Scorn on the way. Keep their grubby hands off of our Solar crystals.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You're getting a special visit from our rotten neighbors. Show them out.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I gotta give the Scorn credit: they killed a bunch of your friends. Maybe now they'll finish the job.
Crystal Hoarders arrives.
- A Crystal Hoarder has been summoned
The fireteam defeats the Crystal Hoarders, taking the Solar Crystals to the plinths.
Xivu's Talons[edit]
Xivu Arath’s sigil is projected in the air.
- Ikora: Brute force won't work here. Use your spellcraft to lower the Wizards' defenses.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Once these Wizards get their guard up, no amount of firepower’s gonna drop ‘em.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: These Wizards never go anywhere alone. You should take ‘em out one at a time.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You want magic? You got it. These Wizards forgot more than you ever knew.
Ir Dollox and Ir Kaza, Talons of Xivu Arath arrive.
One of the Talons shifts into thier Shade form; protecting them.
The fireteam uses the Acolyte’s Staff to invoke Hive magic, forcing the Talons out of Shade form.
The fireteam defeats Ir Dollox and Ir Kaza, Talons of Xivu Arath.
Arok'tha[edit]
Xivu Arath’s sigil is projected in the air.
- Immaru: You're stepping in the middle of a sibling rivalry that's been going on for millennia. Better you than me.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Xivu's Wrathborn are crawling all over. You may have the Light, but she's got numbers on her side. Thin 'em out.
Arok'tha, Sworn to Xivu Arath arrives.
- WAR HAS ARRIVED
The fireteam engages Arok'tha.
Weakened, Arok’tha draws up their shields.
Solar Crystals manifest.
The fireteam carries Solar crystals to the plinths, breaking the Arok’tha’s shield.
- Your foe is vulnerable!
Arok’tha charges at the fireteam.
The fireteam defeats Arok’tha Sworn to Xivu Arath.

The ritual goes awry, bringing unpredicatable forces.

Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): [cackles menacingly]
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Savathûn's got all kinds of lethal toys. That's one of my favorites.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Looks like you got some surprise visitors. Give 'em a proper Hive welcoming.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: These goons must have slipped out while we weren't looking. Take 'em down.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I forgot about these jerks. They probably snuck out during your last ritual. Too bad for them.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: That's a new prototype the boss cooked up. Give it a test run.
Or alternatively, starting with Week 7
Or alternatively, starting with Week 7
- Savathûn: This relic is both delicate and devastating. Just like the Light.
The fireteam uses the opportunity to tithe with haste.
- Ritual anomalies harnessed
If the anomaly was not harvested in time
- The ritual magic fades...
Intermission[edit]
If the fireteam were successful:
The fireteam defeat their summoned foes.
- Ikora: Good work, Guardian. You’ve made significant progress toward Eris’s plan. Stay resolute. We’ve got this.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: That’s a lot fewer goons for us to clean up later. I bet the boss appreciates it.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I've seen the boss kill her subjects in all kinds of ways, but that... was the most entertaining.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You Vanguard types may be smug, but you can deal some major damage.
If the fireteam were unsuccessful:
The fireteam fail to defeat their foes in time for the tribute.
- Immaru: Not every ritual will end in success, Guardian. Stay the course and make another attempt.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: I'm not surprised. You should be used to failure by now.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Persistence makes up for a lot. I learned that from the boss. So reload and go again already!
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Couldn’t close the deal, huh? Ante up and try again.
The fireteam moves to the next primed Altar to make an another offering, continuing until enough tithes are tributed.
Complete[edit]
The fireteam tithes their enemies’ deaths to Eris Morn.
- Eris Morn (Transformed): The frailty of our enemies' conviction shatters against the righteousness of the Guardian's cause.
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Come forth, my acolyte. Tithe to the ruin of Xivu Arath, and the triumph of the Light!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Hail the deathless one! Hail the wielder of the eternal sword! Aiat!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Tithe unto the God of Vengeance! Aiat!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Tithe unto the sorrow of the Hive! None shall forestall my vengeance!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Tithe unto me, acolyte, and affirm the survival of the Light!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): Tithe unto me, that we may vanquish Xivu Arath and hear the wailing of her brood!
Or alternatively
- Eris Morn (Transformed): I shall hone your tithes to a fine edge, and bleed Xivu Arath dry!
With the series of tithing complete, Eris Morn teleports away.
The fireteam collects their loot.
- Immaru: I know you might not believe Savathûn when she says she's working against the Witness, but that's your own hang-up. She’s too clever to serve somebody like that smoky weirdo. Xivu’s no dope either, but she’s totally committed to sword logic. The Witness was able to manipulate her by telling her what she wanted to hear. It never pays to love something so much, you stop questioning it.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: It makes sense that Xivu aligned with the Witness. Xivu never backed down from a fight in her life, and the Witness promised her a big one. But the Witness wants to win without fighting. If Xivu had just realized that, I think she would have joined Savathûn in a heartbeat. That would have been something to see.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: The final shape, the way we think about it? It's the winner, the one who's so smart or strong that they beat everybody else. The final shape may not be the most interesting or best looking or whatever, but it's the one who makes it to the finish line, again and again. It's the best at what it does. The Witness's final shape isn't like that. It's just... flat. It's static. It's... a forced ending, like winning a game by turning it off. Forever. Ugh, gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: Your Ghost said the Traveler's been quiet lately. That's not exactly true; I think he's sparing you the details. The Witness is doing something terrible to it, I can sense it in my Light. Listen, imagine your god spoke to you, and all it did was scream for help. Yeah, it's kind of like that.
Or alternatively
- Immaru: You might’ve heard some Ghosts saying they can’t feel the Traveler after what the Witness did to it. Now, don't get your hopes up. I can still sense it. But something's changed. Look, I know the Hive. I know death when I feel it, and this doesn’t feel like death. This is more like... desperation. Tension. Terror. See, I told you not to get your hopes up.
{Activity Ends}
Gameplay[edit]
Altars of Summoning is a three player matchmade activity, launched from the H.E.L.M. The Altars themselves are similar to a Patrol space, where the instance will not end until at least one player is in it. To begin the activity, players can perform the Ritual of Induction at the central pool. Then, they will be directed to one of the Altars, where they can make an offering, which will determine the difficulty of the encounter they are to face. More powerful offerings fill more of the completion bar. There are many different encounters, each with their own mechanics, but they all must be completed within a 7 minutes timer. Once the bar is filled, the God of Vengeance will arrive to collect the accumulated tithes, rewarding the players with loot and reputation. After a few seconds, the Ritual of Induction can be performed again to restart the cycle.
Ritual of Induction[edit]
Around the central pool of the Altars, there will be several Hive runes floating, each interactable. The first player that Invokes Hive Magic under a rune begins a 15 second timer, after which the ritual will complete. However, if all players stand under the three runes different from all others, they will receive a Lucent Blessing, which will restore some of their Special and Heavy ammo after the completion of each encounter.
Ritual Anomalies[edit]
After the completion of an encounter, a Ritual Anomaly encounter can occur. These are simpler battles than regular encounters, but must be completed in a shorter time. Successfully finishing the Anomaly will immediately reward loot and offerings and add to the activity's completion bar.
