The Nova Mortis is an exotic machine gun introduced in Destiny: Rise of Iron. Designed by an unknown Titan during the Great Disaster, it was designed to be a Void-based variant of the Thunderlord, only to be lost in the aftermath of the campaign.[1]

However, during The Dawning, Xur presents the schematics for the weapon as a gift from the Nine, which triggers the quest Songs from the Void.

Design Details

"Before he died on the Moon, the Titan who wielded the first Thunderlord created two variants of the mighty weapon. Nova Mortis harnesses the power of the Void. Notes found on the original schematic for Nova Mortis reveal its creator worried the weapon was as dangerous to its wielder as it was to those in its sights."
— Grimoire Description[2]

The Nova Mortis is, simply put, a Void version of Thunderlord. It has the same designs, statistics, and perks as Thunderlord, and functions exactly alike.
