- — Renegade Hunter Shin Malphur to Dredgen Yor
The Last Word is an exotic hand cannon. It is obtainable by completing a Raid or a Weekly Nightfall Strike, by random drops in the Crucible, and by purchasing it from Xûr, Agent of the Nine for 23 Strange Coins.
The Last Word belonged to the Hunter Jaren Ward. It takes its name from the exchange between himself and the petty tyrant Loken.[1] After Jaren's death, the gun passed to his adoptive son Shin Malphur[2], who used it in his legendary showdown with the fallen Guardian Dredgen Yor.[3]
Trivia
The Last Word has been labeled as the "yang" of the Destiny universe (as opposed to the Thorn, which is the "yin"). This is reflected both in the appearance of the weapons and the history of its owners; the virtuous Jaren Ward and the villainous Dredgen Yor, respectively.[4]
