Episode: Heresy is the third Episode of Destiny 2 and the third episode of the Final Shape cycle. It focuses on new revelations towards the Hive pantheon and a new eldritch force having taken over the Dreadnaught.[1]

Description[edit]

Heresy[edit]

Act I

"The Dreadnaught has returned. Gather your allies and bring order to chaos as shadows gather in the galaxy."

"The Danger Above
Powered by the Echo of Navigation, the mighty Hive ship once again darkens our skies, dropping mysterious Anchors across the EDZ.
"

"The Nether
The Dreadnaught’s secrets await, Guardian. Descend into the ship and stem the Taken tide before it overwhelms Earth in this new three-player activity.
"

"Taken and Given
With Commander Sloane’s help, channel the power of the Taken and remove the Dreadnaught’s Anchors from Earth.
"

Act II

"The Echo of the Navigator has emerged aboard the Dreadnaught, assuming the form of Oryx himself. Over centuries, countless throngs have bent to his will; he will ensure that the Guardian is no different. But a voice from beyond forms a wellspring of hope…"

"An Empty Throne
A voice calls through the rift that appeared where Eris Morn fell. Meanwhile, the Taken King challenges the Guardian to assume the throne as his true heir.
"

"Court of Blades
Face an imposing lineup of champions, all bidding for the Taken King’s vacant throne in this new three-person activity full of custom challenge and great rewards.
"

"Guardian Games 2025
Class competition returns with a new activity: Rushdown. Race against the clock to beat back-to-back bosses of increasing difficulty, earn medallions, and gain glory for your class!
"

Act III

"The final battle for control of the Echo of Navigation begins."

"Hive Civil War
As Xivu Arath and Savathûn bear down on Eris Morn's throne, the Guardian will peer into eldritch depths to temper their new Taken power in a desperate bid to keep the Echo out of the hands of Oryx’s siblings and the forces of Darkness.
"

"Rite of the Nine
Starting on May 6, take up a challenge issued by The Nine. Experience a collection of remixed Destiny 2 dungeons with a variety of challenges designed for both new and veteran players. Victory brings its spoils, in the form of new unique rewards to collect.
"

"Heavy Metal
Guardians, mount up! It's Drakes vs. Brigs in this titanic PVP clash of epic armoured vehicular mayhem.

Trivia[edit]

  • The episode was set to launch in November of 2024 and end in February of 2025, however, it was moved to coincide with the delay of The Final Shape.
  • Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike occurring at the time of Heresy's development, depending on the language, either some or all voice lines are impacted. For example:
    • English: Some voice lines for Sloane and Xivu Arath are missing.
    • French: Every voice line is missing.
  • Several aspects of the aesthetics and plot for this episode are similar to elements from Bethesda's Elder Scrolls game series; the Eversion Anchors released by the Dreadnaught are similar in form and function to the Dark Anchors utilized by the Daedric Prince Molag Bal in The Elder Scrolls Online, and the tentacles and floating eyes found throughout the Dreadnaught are reminiscent of the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora. Notably, Hermaeus Mora is also the Daedric Prince of forbidden knowledge, and his realm Apocrypha is filled with arcane texts; likewise, Heresy features the Tome of Want, a "book" which offers knowledge at the cost of one's own sanity.
    • Other elements are also reminiscent of Mojang's classic game Minecraft; the new Nether activity bears the same name as a hellish dimension from Minecraft, the floating eyes resemble Eyes of Ender, and the game mechanic of the eyes inflecting the "Suffocating Terror" debuff is reminiscent of Minecraft's Endermen attacking the player when they make eye contact with them.
