- — In-game description
Monte Carlo is a Level 40 Exotic Auto Rifle. The rifle looks different from many other auto rifles in that the front of the weapon looks like a bayonet. Unfortunately, this is only a novelty. The rifle is in the middle-ground archetype for Rate of Fire and Impact, and has much higher Stability and reload speed than many other auto rifles in this archetype. A Year Two version of Monte Carlo was reintroduced in The Taken King.
Gameplay
Year One
The Year One version of Monte Carlo was only available in the PS3 & PS4 versions of Destiny until September 2015, after which is was made available across both platforms (Xbox and PlayStation). Upgrades increase the weapon’s hip fire effectiveness and reduces the cooldown for the player's melee ability, providing a firm grounding for close range domination.[1]
Year Two
Monte Carlo was made available across all platforms and functions similarly to its Year One version.
Upgrades
Barrel Upgrades
- CQB Ballistics: Greatly reduced recoil. Significant penalty to range.
- Smart Drift Control: Predictable and controllable recoil. Penalty to range.
- Aggressive Ballistics: More predictable recoil. Enhanced impact. Shorter range and more recoil.
Special Perk
- Hip Fire: This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip.
Stat Modifiers
- High Caliber Rounds: Oversize rounds built to stagger targets and leave them reeling. Their mass makes a weapon harder to handle.
- Send It: Increases range and accuracy. Harder to handle. Decreases carried Ammo capacity.
- Field Scout: Increases carried Ammo capacity.
Exotic Perk
- Monte Carlo Method: Dealing damage with this weapon reduces your melee cooldown and grants a chance to fully charge your melee ability with each kill. [2]
Trivia
- The gun's name and descriptive text are a reference to the Monte Carlo method, which is a mathematical modeling method used to simulate complex phenomena and probabilities, such as the behavior of liquids and gases, the development of galaxies, and a number of other practical and theoretical applications.
- It’s also possible, that it’s name might reference to Monte Carlo, a city within Monaco. Due to it’s ornament in D1, called the “Royal Flush”, which may have to do something, with Monaco, since their leadership are Princes, in which they are royalty.
- The signature perk of this weapon, the Monte Carlo Method, gives this weapon a chance to refill the user's melee attack after doing damage, and the gun also has one of the highest base reload speeds and stability amounts of any auto rifle without using any perk slots.
