Recce is the second mission of Episode: Heresy.
ObjectivesEdit

- Board the Dreadnaught
- Gain entry into Oryx's old flagship, the Dreadnaught, and find the source of the ship's disturbance.
- Reach the Hall of Souls
- Follow the Dread
- Destroy the Dread fiends blocking your path. Their presence here is surely an ill omen.
- Retrieve the Artifact
- A powerful artifact remains to be claimed. Grab hold of it before the Dread and Taken feed from its energies.
- Reach the Mausoleum
- Stop the Dread
- The Dread here commit themselves to an unknown corruption. Destroy them before their plans come to fruition.
- Stop the Ritual
- Resurrect Drifter
- Convince the Drifter's Ghost to resurrect him.

(Mission Begins)
Eris Morn: You are drawn through Ascendant space, to a tomb no longer at rest in the stars. The Dreadnaught calls to herald our approach.
- The Guardian finds themselves in the Trenchway in Ascendant space where they anchors are seen falling from the Dreadnaught and tentacles grasping the various asteroids. Navigating across the asteroids, the Guardian enters a portal within an anchor that transports them to the Dreadnaught.
Drifter: Hey! We lost you for a minute there. Says you’re on the Dreadnaught?
Eris Morn: The Eversion Anchor has pulled the Guardian to its point of origin.
Drifter: We'll meet up with you, hero.
- The Guardian begins their exploration into the Dreadnaught.
Eris Morn: Guardian. We have discovered a piece of the Tablets of Ruin.
Drifter: A long time ago, Oryx wrote down how to Take. Put it on those tablets… But they're all lost or locked down. Or they should be. What's a piece doin' here?
Eris Morn: Someone — no. Taken! Get back!
Drifter: We got this, Guardian. Hold your position.
- Defeating the throngs of Taken infesting the Dreadnaught, the Guardian progresses deeper into the Hive worship where the organic covering is found to be flaying off. After proceeding into a dark tunnel, the Guardian reaches a platform leading to the Hall of Souls.
(Cutscene Begins)
Fighting together side by side, Eris Morn and Drifter defeat the various Taken in the Hall of Souls. Wandering around the location, Eris nearly collapses onto the ground before regaining her balence.
Eris Morn: [gasps] I sense a familiar presence. Fingertips on the surface… No. This is new… Something's wrong! We must find the Guardian.
Drifter: Maybe we can… make our way back, or—
- The Resonant Knife teleports to the Hall of Souls alongside its Dire Taken underlings. Firing at the Taken Subjugator with her weapon, Eris is seized by the throat by the Resonant Knife and hoisted into the air.
Eris Morn: [grunts in pain]
- Drifter is ambushed by the Dire Taken units while Eris glares at the Resonant Knife with distaste.
Eris Morn: Vile… creature!
- Eris shoots the Subjugator with her weapon, however the Resonant Knife merely laughs at her failed attempt and stabs the Hidden agent with its Glaive.
Eris Morn: [gasps, breathes raggedly in pain]
- Striving to break free from its grasp, Eris falls limb from her fatal wound. After killing the Taken pouncing on him, Drifter looks in the direction of the Resonant Knife to see the horror that laid in front of him.
Drifter: No!
- Slamming Eris's corpse into the ground, the Resonant Knife jumps off the cliff to dive deeper into the Dreadnaught as Drifter leaps down after them.
(Cutscene Ends)
Reaching the Hall of Souls, the Guardian is confronted by Taken and Dread forces led by Felghul, the Requisitioner. Defeating the powerful Taken Champion, the Blight underneath the platform containing the portal dissolves, revealing a Tablet of Ruin.
Drifter: Grab the artifact and follow my signal! That thing's got her!
- Obeying Drifter's command, the Guardian acquires the Tablet of Ruin and progresses towards the Mausoleum.
Drifter: It's taking her deeper in the Dreadnaught! Hold on, Moondust! We can't leave her! We need to get Eris out of here, we need— [distant, steady gunshots] Help! Please! Anyone! [distant gunshots becoming erratic] [frustrated yell]
- Arriving to the Mausoleum, the Guardian avoids enigmatic eyes that observe their activities and delves deep into the lower floor to find the Resonant Knife waiting idly as they conduct a ritual. Longing to have their ritual fulfilled, the Resonant Knife brings forth its Dread and Taken followers to halt the Guardian's efforts. Despite these obstacles, the Guardian destroys the small Blights on the Pyramid spikes to bring an end to the ritual.
With the ritual disrupted, the Resonant Knife leaves.
- Following the Resonant Knife's retreat, the Guardian approaches the unconscious Drifter.
(Cutscene Begins)
- Drifter is resurrected by his Ghost.
Drifter: [gasps]
- Drifter looks over to Eris's unconscious body.
Drifter: Eris…
- Drifter crawls over to Eris's body.
Drifter: [grunts] No, no, no, no, no, no…
- Drifter reaches the body of Eris.
Drifter: [pants] Moondust? [whimpers]
- Drifter holds Eris's motionless head in his hands.
Drifter: [whimpers] It's OK… [sobs]
- The Guardian and Ghost look at each other with sorrow as Drifter embraces Eris's lifeless body.
Drifter: I gotcha. I gotcha… I gotcha… Moonlight… [sobs]
(Black Screen)
- Eris awakens within an unknown location
Eris Morn: [gasps]
- Eris briefly touches her chest.
Eris Morn: [inhales shakily] [exhales]
- Eris looks around this abnormal place with curiosity.
Eris Morn: [pants]
- Eris takes off her mask and opens her eyes.
Eris Morn: [laughs joyously] [laughter fades away]
