The Penumbral Centurion is a powerful Taken Centurion leading a force of Dire Taken to oversee the deployment of an Eversion Anchor in the Salt Mines in the EDZ. It is one of the final bosses in the Solo Ops: The Salt Mines.

Gameplay

Once engaged, the Penumbral Centurion and its cohorts scatter, with Dire Acolytes covering every angle of their commander. The Penumbral Centurion usually attempts to keep their distance and fire volleys of Taken Projection Rifle slugs and occasionally throwing a Solar Mortar to burn the ground around its target, however will not actively retreat down the hill until a third of its health is depleted where it will activate an immunity shield and retreat, summoning more Dire Taken to assist it along with a Blight that spawns Shadow Thrall. Upon destroying this Blight, a pool of piercing Light will appear that allows Guardians to destroy the Penumbral Centurion's shield, continuing the fight.

The Penumbral Centurion will attempt this one more time once only a third of its health remains. At this point it will be cornered and once its shield is taken down again it can be easily finished off.

Trivia

• In terms of appearance, the Penumbral Centurion wears armor similar to the Imperial Deserter and Bracus Kravaum, Shadow Legion with the helmet of Thumos, the Unbroken.
• If enough damage is done to the Penumbral Centurion fast enough, players can delay or even outright skip it being shielded by Blights. This can be most easily achieved by stunning it through quick heavy damage such as a Rocket Launcher or a Sunbreaker's throwable hammer empowered by the Wormgod Caress's Burning Fists perk.
