Expert on the Hive |
- "Six of us went down into the pit. Only one crawled out. I am Eris, the last. I have seen what the Hive call a god."
- — Eris Morn[1]
Eris Morn is a former Hunter and member of the Hidden who serves the Vanguard as an expert on Hive lore. She is the sole survivor of the ill-fated fireteam led by herself and Eriana-3 that attempted to assassinate Crota after The Great Disaster. After guiding The Guardian on the path to Crota's destruction, she helped coordinate the fight against Oryx, the Taken King while maintaining secret alliances with Queen Mara Sov of the Reef and the exiled Warlock Osiris. During the Age of Triumph, Eris left The Last City to gather more information on future Hive threats with the help of Mara.
After discovering the growing threat of Savathûn and hints that the Darkness was closer to humanity than they believed, Eris returned to the Last City to warn the Vanguard before venturing once more to the Moon. There she uncovered the existence of a Pyramid beneath the surface and guided the Guardian in investigating its purpose and fighting the Daughters of Crota. Eris delved deep into the secrets of the Pyramid and the Darkness as the Black Fleet arrived in the system. Although sorely tempted by the power the Darkness offered, Eris formed an alliance with the Exo Stranger and the Drifter to learn how to utilize Stasis safely as a tool against their foes.
As a result of a ritual involving the Proto-Worm Ahsa, Eris briefly became the Hive God of Vengeance to challenge Xivu Arath and gained strength from the Sword Logic using blood tithes from the Guardians. After slaying her sister Savathûn and consuming her stored tithes through the Sword Logic, Eris became the most powerful Hive God in existence, allowing her to seal Xivu Arath out of her own Throne World and render her mortal.
Biography[edit]
First life[edit]
As with all Guardians, Eris does not remember her life before being resurrected by her Ghost. A series of messages addressed to the Guardian from Savathûn, the Witch Queen provided a false account of her first life, claiming that she had been named "Erisia Pyatova-Hsien" and had lived in St. Petersburg, Russia during the Golden Age.[2] A subsequent counter-inquiry and investigation by Ikora Rey's Hidden agents revealed that Eris was in fact born to civilian parents in the Last City, over 300 years before Guardian life; this was corroborated by Ghost recordings from the period and a double-blind forensic analysis.[3]
The Great Ahamkara Hunt[edit]
- "We will take extreme measures. We must. But these creatures have such means… They will flee. Far and wide. Perhaps all the way to you. Mara, I implore you. If you hold your people as dearly as you say you do, you will end them on sight."
- — Eris writing to Queen Mara on the eve of the Great Ahamkara Hunt
When the Ahamkara on Venus began warping the world in dangerous and unexpected ways due to the strength they gained from wishes made by Guardians seeking more power, Eris participated in studying the effects of the Ahamkara, but as timelines began to fracture and some Guardians were driven to suicide by the paracausal phenomenon, the Vanguard prepared to exterminate them through the Great Ahamkara Hunt. Eris wrote to her friend Queen Mara Sov of the Reef to warn her of the coming hunt and shared her fears that some Ahamkara would flee to the far edges of the Sol System to escape the Vanguard's reach. She pleaded with the Queen to kill any Ahamkara that entered her realm on sight if she truly cared for her people, as they were too dangerous to be left alive and used.[4]
In the early days of the Great Hunt, Eris was assigned to work with Wei Ning to eliminate seven Ahamkara. The fight with their first target lasted an entire day, as Eris watched Wei Ning fight their foe in hand-to-hand combat. She started to believe that Wei Ning was insane, a fear that was given strength when the Titan admitted to wishing that the fight would never end. Eris was horrified and told her to stop, as they needed to kill their other targets as well, but Wei Ning asked her to trust her. An hour later their other targets arrived, having been drawn in by the power the seventh was gathering from Wei Ning's wishes. Pulling out her Arc blades, Eris Blinked and began her bloody work culling the Ahamkara. As their last foe fell, Eris believed she heard Wei Ning whisper something and asked what she said. However, the Titan stated she was about to ask her the same thing, leaving the two Guardians confused.[5]
Likely with the same Ahamkara, Eris surprised the Ahamkara and used Arc energy to blind it, while Wei Ning sliced its belly, ending its life. While Wei Ning left to join another fray, Eris recovered a sliver of its rib chipping her sword in the process. She held the bone between her thumb and forefinger causing her to hear whispers. She kept the bone as a souvenir, since Shaxx had taken an entire skull to the City.[6]
Eris was later tasked to work with the Warlock Ikora Rey against an entire army of Ahamkara. During the battle, they whispered offers to Eris and showed her images that she believed came from her life before being revived as a Guardian. After an hour-long battle, the two emerged victoriously and gazed upon a mile of Ahamkara bones. As they prepared to destroy the bones and their whispers, Eris asked Ikora what they offered her. The Warlock stated that they probably offered them the same thing. Eris remained disturbed and stated that everything the Ahamkara said was true. Ikora warned her that sentiments like that led to morbid places and told her to take her Light north while she cut south. Eris was still focused on what they showed her, but Ikora told her to focus as the two began summoning a storm of Light to destroy the bones. The whispers from the remains of the Ahamkara grew as their work progressed, to the point where Eris could not discern between the storm and the whispers.[7]
A year into the Hunt, Eris fought alongside Zavala and Lord Shaxx against one Ahamkara. After they mortally wounded the beast, Eris and Zavala watched as Shaxx laid a hand on its snout. She wondered if he was gloating, but Zavala believed he was too pragmatic for that. Eris then suggested he might be mourning, which Zavala thought was a possibility. The Ahamkara began to glow then, causing Eris and Zavala to shield their eyes as it exploded. When they looked back Shaxx was standing in a crater and covered in green flames. As Eris and Zavala prepared to say something, Shaxx quieted them and told them to listen. They all heard a disembodied whisper but were used to such things by then.[8] Despite her concerns about the Ahamkara and the disturbing whispers from their bones, Eris kept a fragment of bone from the Great Hunt.[9]
The Hunt for Crota[edit]
Following the Vanguard's failed attempt to reclaim the Moon from the Hive during the Great Disaster, Eris met with the Praxic Warlock Eriana-3. Together, they sought to discover a way to kill the Hive Prince Crota, Son of Oryx, who led the Hive on the Moon and was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Guardians. When their research brought no answers, they sought out Toland, the Shattered, an exiled Warlock who was said to be insane but had unmatched knowledge of the Hive. From him, they learned that Crota could be killed for good if they entered the Ascendant Realm and slew him in his throne room. Armed with this knowledge, Eris, Eriana, and Toland recruited three more Guardians for their mission: the Titan Vell Tarlowe and the Hunters Omar Agah and Sai Mota.[10] Eris began to learn Hive lore from Toland, who explained how when Crota's will was challenged, he would unleash Ogres known as the Might of Crota. She questioned if he had learned this knowledge from The Speaker, but Toland claimed to have received it from the Darkness itself.[11]
After landing on the Moon, the fireteam began to walk towards the Temple of Crota while questioning Toland about the Hive champions they would be facing. As they discussed the thousands of Guardians killed by the Blades of Crota and others like them, Eris worried that Light would not be enough for them to emerge victorious. Eriana told her that they could just take the blades of their foes and use those to cut them down if necessary. Eris was deeply concerned about using a weapon of the Darkness to fight their enemies, and Eriana claimed she would do anything for vengeance. Eris told her friend that she prayed it would not have to come to that.[12] When Vell commented that he wished to kill Sardon and the Swarm Princes, Eris reminded him that their mission was to kill Crota, but Toland told her that the Hive Prince's lieutenants were extensions of him. Vell reassured her he had faith in all their Light, but Eris did not believe that faith would help and told him that they had no time for individual battles and must fight together as a unit.[13]
Inside the Temple of Crota, the Fireteam heard screams from deep in the Hive tunnels. Toland told them the screams came from Omnigul, Will of Crota, and that they signified the birth of new spawn in the service of Crota and that if they killed her, Crota's threat in the physical world would be ended. Eris declared that they would follow her screams deeper into the tunnels.[14] As they descended, the fireteam suffered their first casualty: Vell was overwhelmed and killed by Thrall.[15]
Eris, Omar, and Toland were separated from Eriana and Sai soon after Vell's demise. As they moved through the tunnels, Eris told them that she would feel something watching them. Toland explained that those were Crota's eyes, leading the Guardians to be sacrificed to wake Crota by draining their Light. Eris berated him for holding onto his secrets like weapons and asked if he meant to damn them all. Toland told his secrets were weapons and that they could use them to complete their mission, directing her and Omar to hunt the Eyes of Crota, kill them, and then follow their draining Light to where Crota waited.[16] This plan also failed, and Eris was separated from Toland and believed Omar to be dead after another encounter with the Hive. As she skulked in the shadows of the tunnels to avoid the Hive, she heard screams from below and followed them into the darkest chambers of the Hive, where she saw that Omar had been captured by a Wizard called the Heart of Crota. Eris watched in horror as the Wizard flayed the Light from her fellow Hunter and used it to feed newly spawned Thrall. After seeing this, Eris believed Omar to be dead when actually, his soul was transferred into a Hive bug that she would later use to create Xenophage for the Young Wolf.[17][18]
With the rest of the fireteam dead and her Ghost, Brya, sacrificing itself to try and save her,[19] Eris was left alone in the depths of the Hive's warrens. Against all odds, she managed to survive in the Hellmouth's shadowy tunnels for years, using Toland's journal as a guidebook to survival.[20] Eris learned much about the Hive, its hierarchy, and how to wield some of their magic.[21] However, she would eventually run low on options. Eris held the bone of an Ahamkara that she had kept since the Great Hunt, and wished for a way to survive, her human eyes replaced with a trio of Hive eyes. With these, she would finally find her way out.[22]
Return to the Tower[edit]
- "My role among the Hidden is an honor."
"None would argue. But it's had its cost. Your place is to gather the understanding we need to wage these wars, but your own war is long done. Let those prepared to fight, fight."
"And should they die?"
"None who walk these Towers is afraid…" - — Eris and Ikora Rey
With her escape from the Hellmouth, Eris returned to the Last City alive, but vastly changed by the experience. As she recovered from her experience she was cared for by her friend Asher Mir. Thanks to his compassion, Eris regained some hope and recovered some sense of her old self.[23] Her continued obsession with defeating Crota and newfound knowledge of the Hive made her a pariah back at the Tower, but though the Speaker and Commander Zavala believed her fascination with Hive lore unhealthy and made her untrustworthy, Ikora Rey secretly employed her as a member of the Hidden to infiltrate and keep watch on the activities of the Darkness.[21] Though she worked for Ikora, she also conspired with Osiris[24] and Queen Mara Sov of the Reef.
Ikora wrote a letter to Eris catching her up on the events of Osiris's banishment while she was in the Hellmouth.[25]
Eventually, Eris informed Ikora that the Hive were becoming more active and that Omnigul had left the Hellmouth. She was concerned that the Hive was targeting the Warmind Rasputin in the Cosmodrome and that if such a being was twisted by the Hive all would be lost. Ikora asked her to remain at the Tower to aid in the battle against the Hive and promised to convince the other Vanguard leaders to listen to Eris, while also promising to find Guardians to aid her.[26]
War against Crota[edit]
- "Crota's soul is banished. You have given me the gift of vengeance. I thank you… and even if they don't know it yet… The City thanks you."
- — Eris Morn
After learning of a newly risen Guardian who raided The World's Grave on behalf of the Speaker, Eris summoned the Guardian. She declared the Speaker a fool for not seeing that the true threat was Crota and for clinging to his belief in a dead god, and tasked the Guardian with slaying the Swarm Princes and destroying the Sword of Crota, which the Vanguard mistakenly believed had been destroyed long ago.[27] After they succeeded, Eris requested they kill Sardon, Fist of Crota, who was leading the Hive in the Cosmodrome in preparation for the revival of Crota's soul. As they hunted Crota's general, Eris explained to the Guardian Sardon's role in conquering the Moon and how she survived for years in the Hive's warrens there. The Guardian defeated Sardon, but Omnigul was spotted in the Cosmodrome as well, and Eris requested that the Guardian return to the Tower to discuss their next step.[28]
Eris learned that Omnigul was targeting Rasputin, proving her previous concerns about the Hive's plans correct. She sent the Guardian to stop Omnigul from destroying or corrupting the warmind, which would allow the Hive to invade Earth without worrying about Rasputin's defenses. Eris was surprised when Rasputin allowed access to his bunker, and was shocked to discover Omnigul had already found a way inside. The Guardian stopped Crota's mate, who fled to safety, and Eris noted that the Hive on Earth were more powerful than she had assumed. She summoned the Guardian back to the Tower to discuss how they would stop the Hive from waking Crota's soul.[29] Despite this victory, Eris was concerned about why Omnigul fled, as she usually feasted on Light, and feared that she may have found what she was looking for in the bunker. Eris was also cautious of Rasputin's motives and wondered if its survival of the Collapse came at some cost to humanity.[30]
With Rasputin safe, Eris tasked the Guardian with going to the Temple of Crota and stopping the Wakers of Crota from beginning a ritual to restore Crota's soul. When the Guardian arrived, they discovered that the ritual had already begun, and Eris desperately urged them onward to stop it from being completed. After the Guardian destroyed the Wakers, Eris directed them to destroy the crystal that the Wizards were using for the ritual. Once it was destroyed she thanked the Guardian for banishing Crota's soul and bringing her some measure of vengeance for her fallen friends.[31] With Crota's soul banished, Eris declared that Omnigul now had to die to truly ensure that Crota could not return to the world. She had located Omnigul in the Skywatch, where she was creating a new Hive army to carry out Crota's will. Once the Guardian slew Omnigul, Eris thanked them and hoped that her friends would now find some measure of peace. She rewarded the Guardian with the Fusion Rifle Murmur.[32] She also explained that many of Crota's disciples still walked the Moon and Earth, and suggested they find a way to enter the Hellmouth and find a way to destroy Crota for good. [33] Eventually, the Guardian also killed Crota, venturing into the Ascendant Realm and slaying him at his Oversoul Throne.[34]
The Taken War[edit]
With Crota's death, Eris turned her attention to his master and father, Oryx, and for this purpose, she turned to Queen Mara Sov of the Reef and the exiled Warlock Osiris for help. The three met in the Queen's throne room in the Reef, where Eris declared that she had no wish to play any games of politics with them and was only there to ensure a united front met Oryx when he invaded the system. The Queen agreed with her, and the three began plotting to end the Taken King.[35] She kept her alliance with the Queen and Osiris secret from the City's leadership. During the Wolf Rebellion she secretly met with Prince Uldren Sov at the Vestian Outpost, avoiding the other Guardians who were now allowed into the Reef. She informed Uldren that she had news from the beyond that the Queen needed to hear.[36] Together, they formed a plan to defeat Oryx; the Awoken would prevent his fleet from entering the inner system, while Eris would help the Guardians enter the Dreadnaught and defeat Oryx. She is one of the guides for the Guardian during the Taken War, and among the first to detect the threat of the Taken.[37][38]
Cayde-6 liked to refer to her as his "creepy sidekick" in their efforts to stop Oryx, much to her immense annoyance.[39] When Eris found out that her ship was destroyed in Cayde's mission to board the Dreadnaught, she was enraged at Cayde for the loss.[40] Despite her anger, she still worked with him to help bring down Oryx. However, once Oryx is defeated permanently, she refuses to let go of her anger.[41]
After the Taken King's defeat, Eris aided the Guardians in slaying would-be contenders and pretenders to Oryx's throne. Chief among them were Alak-Hul and Malok. Regarding the Darkblade, she hoped to gain a sense of vengeance as Alak-Hul was present during her old team's raid against Crota, which caused some of their deaths. She also knew that Alak-Hul could nonetheless make a worthy successor to Oryx, and he had to be taken out of his prison. Guiding the Guardians to the prisons within the Dreadnaught, Eris lead them to Alak-Hul's black cell and, after a tense battle, they succeed in slaying the Darkblade.[42]
Malok, Pride of Oryx, attempted to assume Oryx's place by taking over the Taken brood with his mastery of the Blights and leading an all-out assault on the Last City. However, thanks to Eris's guidance and tips from Variks, the Guardians drove Malok out of the Dreadnaught and onto the Shrine of Oryx on the Moon. There, the Guardians slayed the would-be contender to the Osmium Throne.[43][44]
Last Days in the Tower[edit]
During the Festival of the Lost, Eris was approached by Cayde-6, who then told him to leave if he did not have a replacement ship for her. Cayde attempted to get her into a more festive mood, but Eris dismissed him by listing all that she had lost, in addition to her ship, including her friends, and her Ghost. He offered her a sweet treat from a smuggled package that Kadi 55-30 had confiscated, which Eris refused and bid him once more to begone until he had a new ship.[41]
Eris reluctantly assisted Eva Levante in decorating the Tower during the Dawning. Eris viewed the festival as trivial and a waste of time while the servants of the Darkness still lingered. Eva attempted to convince her that joy and hope were important in fighting the Darkness, but Eris viewed it all as pretending. Eva stated that only joyful Guardians could defeat the Darkness and that holding the Dawning festival was her way of making that happen, causing Eris to sheepishly wish her a happy Dawning.[45]
Ikora Rey spoke with Eva about finding a way to cheer Eris up. They decided to have her friend, Asher Mir write her a Dawning greeting card. He reluctantly wrote the card and used the opportunity to include research notes on the Hive that Eris demanded, finishing with a cheerful greeting Ikora forced him to write. Eris accepted the gift and wrote a card herself warning Asher not to succumb to the whispers, finishing with the same cheerful greeting Ikora forced Asher to include. She also included a gift that glowed with a sickly green glow, but Ikora and Eva discarded it and agreed never to speak of it again.[46]
Shortly after the Dawning, Eris visited Asher in the hospital. She spoke to his catatonic body, telling him her time in the City was over, as she had accomplished all she set out to do there. She decided to find a new way to eliminate the Hive, and she could not find it within the City's walls. Before leaving, she spoke a grim warning; that a "storm" was coming, and she would not be with them when it broke.[47] This "storm" was widely assumed to be the Red Legion's attack on the Last City. However, it has been suggested that instead, the storm is yet to come, implying that everything that has taken place in the Red War is simply the "rain" before the "storm".
Fall of the Last City[edit]
No word was heard from Eris during the Red War. When the Last City fell, Ikora sent a message to her Hidden telling them to hide in their safehouses. She also told Eris that if she was still alive, they had not forgotten her and when they took back the Last City, there would be a home waiting for her.[48]
Eris's departure is noted by the Vanguard and the Guardians, as they originally had hoped to ask her for further advice on the new Hive broods encountered on Titan. However, Zavala states that no one has seen or heard from Eris since before the Last City fell. [49]
The Guardian would discover a terminal used by Eris in the new Tower, with notes on Crota and Oryx. Their Ghost would wonder where she went off to.[50]
Returning Again[edit]
Eris would return to the Tower to ask Cayde-6 about his experiences on Io. Cayde would tell her she was talking to the wrong Vanguard and to ask Ikora. Eris responded by saying she hoped the cache by the bones marked his grave, and Cayde reminded her that as an Exo, he abandoned his bones a long time ago. She simply responded by saying "exactly", leaving Cayde-6 confused.[51]
Asher Mir wrote a letter to Eris stating that he found no information on Nokris. He asked Eris if she felt affection for the Hive, and confessed he occasionally felt admiration for the Vex when he looked upon the Pyramidion. He also mentioned his condition was worsening and that the same morning he cut his finger and bled radiolaria.[52]
Assisting Mara[edit]

At some point following her departure, Eris sends a message to Asher Mir, stating that she has built a ship out of Hive Chitin and discovered a Throne World built for the Light. She said that her message would be the last for a long time, as Mara Sov needed her more than the Last City.[53]
Death of Cayde-6[edit]
Following Cayde-6's death, the Guardian would uncover a cache left for her intended for if she killed him. He believed she turned into a Hive god and fed him to her "worm cult", or she just finally got sick of him. He also apologized for stealing her ship, and for every interaction they've had, but if she did kill him, his actions were justified. He also gave her permission to put her rock on any of his maps.[54]
Truth to Power[edit]
During the Guardian's exploration of the Dreaming City, they received a series of mysterious messages encrypted within Glimmer, which later became known as the "Truth to Power" manuscripts.[3] The first entry in these messages seemed to be addressed to the Guardian by Eris, who revealed the existence of the time loop that sustained Riven and claimed that she had recovered memories of her pre-Guardian life[2]. However, after several bizarre glitches in the message, "Eris" was revealed by the Guardian's Ghost to actually be a Golden Age "craftmind" known as Medusa, who had been impersonating Eris.[55] The subsequent messages continued to change the identity of the narrator in this fashion, with "Medusa" seemingly being a simulation run by Quria, Blade Transform,[56] who was then "revealed" to have been the Wizard Dûl Incaru, who was then shown to be another simulation created by Quria, which the "real" Medusa then broke,[57] who then finally claimed once again to have been Eris the whole time.[58]
While the exact nature of these messages remains unclear, it is generally believed that they were an attempt to confuse the Guardian on the part of Savathûn, the Witch Queen. A Hidden agent codenamed FEN-092 mentioned that Eris has personally denied sending these messages.[3]
Nightmares Awaken[edit]
The Pyramid[edit]
- "Ghaul...the Fanatic...Crota. Like living Nightmares, your past confronts you, Guardian"
- — Eris
Eris searched for answers on Luna following the events of the Red War and the conflict with the Scorn. However, her Stone began to whisper again, taking her deep beneath the moon's surface. After traversing deeper, she touched a black surface and unknowingly unleashed a curse upon Luna.[59] Soon enough, Eris found herself being haunted by the ghosts of her former fireteam. Worse, the Hive of the Hidden Swarm had constructed a massive crimson fortress, the Scarlet Keep to take advantage of a structure she found, the Lunar Pyramid once piloted by Nezarec.[60][citation needed]
The Guardian went to the Moon to investigate the Hive's resurgence and of the Scarlet Keep but soon encountered various phantoms of fallen Guardians as they traverse beneath the keep. As the Guardian finds the Pyramid structure, they come under assault of powerful phantoms taking the appearance of various foes they have bested in the past. However, before the Guardian is overwhelmed by the Nightmares of Crota, Ghaul and the Fanatic, Eris Morn uses her enchantment to pull them out of danger and to her position. Safe, the Guardian meets with Eris who states her theory that the Pyramid may in fact be a remnant of the Darkness that brought the Collapse, possibly wrecked and hidden on Luna after being struck down by the Traveler. Eris further reveals that the phantoms they encountered are in fact Nightmares created by the Pyramid's energies and utilized by the Hive. Knowing of the knowledge and secrets within, Eris begins working with the Guardian to find a way inside.[61]
Setting up a base just outside Sorrow's Harbor, Eris begins formulating a plan to enter the Pyramid and combat the Hidden Swarm. Further, she has the Guardians hunt down the various Nightmares that have begun to appear across the system, taking the image of the Guardians' most notorious foes, such as Skolas, Taniks, Phogoth and Omnigul.[62][63][64][65] Knowing that the Hive must possess the knowledge needed to combat the Nightmares, she has the Guardians investigate the Keep and the Hive's rituals. The Guardians manage to disrupt various rituals but encounter the architect of the Keep itself, Hashladûn, Daughter of Crota. Eris originally believed Hashladûn and her sisters were dead following the fall of their father but now realizes that the eldest of Crota's daughters seeks retribution against the Guardians for ruining her lineage. Eris has the Guardians give chase as Hashladûn retreats into the keep. Ascending the Tower of Woe, Hashladûn corners the Guardians but despite her sorcery and use of the Nightmares, they slay the daughter of Crota. From her remains, the Guardians learn that Hashladûn and her sisters managed to protect themselves against the Nightmare's influence and utilize them from a forbidden piece of arcane knowledge, the Cryptoglyph located in the darkest location of the Hellmouth, the Catacombs.[66]
Despite the danger and complete Darkness, the Guardians agree with Eris' plan that the Cryptoglyph is essential in combating the Nightmares and unlocking the Pyramid. Though Eris originally planned to pull the Guardian out of the Catacombs once they've acquired the artifact, she loses contact with them as they entered the forbidden sanctum. Fortunately, the Guardians managed to reach the Crytoglyph and slay its keeper, Besurith, Daughter of Crota. Racing back to the surface, Eris is relieved that the Guardians are safe and gained the artifact. With the Cryptoglyph, Eris manages to learn how to create the armor necessary to battle the Nightmares and has the Guardians hunt for more Nightmares to fuel the essence necessary to complete them.[67]
With the armor and weapons, Eris has the Guardian meet with Ikora Rey at the overlook near the Pyramid. The Warlock Vanguard stated that she had to see it for herself and wondered how long the Pyramid had been waiting or watching. Regardless, Eris arrives, though smothered by the ghosts of her former fireteam. Eris soon grows furious with the phantoms' taunts and torments, screaming at them to be silent. Though Ikora voices her thoughts she can't help but feel responsible for her torments and for not truly listening to her warnings, Eris brushes off her concerns, very well knowing that she didn't come to apologize. Acknowledging this, Ikora then states that those who brought their Collapse are coming back and tells Eris that the Vanguard is at her disposal. With everything said, Eris states that there is much work to do and has the Guardian follow her to prepare for their mission to enter the Pyramid.[68]
Having everything they require to enter the Pyramid, the Guardian ventures to the structure but find themselves drawn into the Pyramid, as if welcomed. Inside the Pyramid, the Guardians battle against the Nightmare of Crota, Son of Oryx, the Nightmare of Dominus Ghaul and the Nightmare of Fikrul, the Fanatic, all the while being taunted by the voice that has taken control of their Ghost. Despite this, the Guardian defeats each of the Nightmares and at a mysterious altar, they acquire a strange spherical artifact. After taking it, they appear transported to a place that resembles the Black Garden and encounter a mirrored image of themselves, apparently representing the Darkness itself. Calling itself not their enemy nor their friend, the mirrored projection calls itself their "Salvation".[69]
Returning to Eris following their discovery, Eris scoffs at the message of salvation, she takes it as confirmation that the Darkness is about to return. She also acquires the artifact from the Guardian to study though Eris hears whispers from it, she only takes them as attempts to manipulate them. In the meantime, Eris has the Guardians continue with the Nightmare Hunts to contain the Nightmares that continue to haunt the system.[citation needed]
Eris would decipher messages from a mysterious entity through the Unknown Artifact, and translate them for the Guardian. This text became known as Unveiling and quickly became popular amongst Guardians. After witnessing Guardians begin to question the Darkness, Eris turned to Mara Sov for her opinion. Mara told her she believes that there must be a balance between Light and Darkness. However, much more Light would be needed than Darkness. Eris shared that she believes that a good Guardian cannot entertain the idea of using the Darkness, as balance would be a constant war to keep the Darkness in check.[70]
The Vex Offensive[edit]
- "All this time, they've been closer than we even knew. First the Pyramid on the moon. Now a team of Guardians finds remnants of their presence in the Black Garden."
- — Eris
Shortly after the Young Wolf returned from the Pyramid, Vex began pouring out of a gate to the Black Garden on the Moon and invaded the lunar surface, being drawn by the dark influence of the Pyramid. Meeting with the Young Wolf, Eris warned that the Vex threatened the Vanguard's presence on the moon and that they must be stopped before they cut off their access to the Pyramid and any hope they had of stopping the Nightmares. Eris noted that she needed to keep her focus on researching the Pyramid and requested that the Young Wolf work with Ikora to drive back the Vex and keep her sanctuary secure before too many Vex invaded the moon. She also asked that they discover the motivations of the Vex and share that information with Ikora.[71]
A team of Guardians entered the gate and slew two powerful Vex minds within and discovered traces of the Darkness. Their success caused the mysterious Darkness artifact to come to life and emit another message. Eris was visited by the Young Wolf and explained what had occurred before declaring the Darkness meant to play them as puppets listening only to what it said. She dismissed the messages from the Darkness as manipulation and warned them not to trust anything the Darkness said and to discard further messages. She worried that these messages were meant as a means to distract the Guardians from their task and sow seeds of doubt so that the Darkness could win against them. Despite her worries, Eris resolved to continue studying the artifact.[71]
Lost Mementos[edit]
Sometime later, the Phantoms that continue to haunt her soon begin to take its toll on Eris. Resolving to help Eris, the Guardians journey through Luna's surface and find various relics and mementos left behind by her former fireteam. Among them, they find Sai Mota's repaired necklace, Vell Tarlowe's Reforged Mark, one of Toland's lost journals, Omar Agah's Brace of Knives and Eriana-3's Letters from Wei Ning. With each keepsake, Eris can make peace with the fates of her friends and the phantoms that once haunted her, disappear.[citation needed]
Later, Eris enters the Pyramid herself and approaches the altar of the veiled figure. Touching the altar, her Stone appears to absorb a strange element born of the Darkness. At first shocked, Eris resolves to absorb the unidentified energy and leaves with a faint smile.[72]
Eris would later pen a journal entry reflecting on her experiences with the Darkness as it manifested through the Lunar Pyramid. For unknown reasons, The Witness either stole or copied this page and stored it aboard the Essence until the Guardian recovered it three years later.[73]
Eve before the Arrival[edit]
Eris would also compose a message to Ikora, stating that despite the Nightmares still haunting the Moon, she and the Guardians have been pushing them back, and taking power from them.[74]
After Saint-14 was rescued from the Infinite Forest by the Guardian and Osiris, he visited Eris Morn and was shocked by how much she changed. He thought she should get a bigger gun so she doesn't have to carry around her Ahamkara bone all the time.[75]
Eris would not be in support of rebuilding Rasputin, believing some secrets are better left buried,[76] and the Vanguard is just bidding time until the Black Fleet arrives.[77]
The Arrival[edit]
Several months after the battle on the Moon, a fleet of the Pyramids venture into the system, with one of them touching down on Io. The power of the Pyramid beckons Eris there, and she heeds the call to learn whatever she can. When she reaches Io, her attempts to hear the Darkness are disrupted by Savathûn, who jams the Pyramid's broadcasts and sends Taken to intervene. She is slowly overwhelmed and the Guardian, who is following her on Zavala's orders, is cut off from her as they take separate routes through the Cradle. Though injured, Eris manages to overcome the Witch Queen's power as she finds a Tree of Silver Wings, with a seed growing at its base. She tries to claim it but finds she can't touch it, and is forced to let the Guardian have it.[78]
Eris then returns to the Tower and meets Zavala in his office for a debrief on what has happened. Eris tells Zavala that she intends to return to Io, but the Vanguard Commander pleads with her not to go any further. She leaves anyway, determined to figure out what Savathûn and the Darkness want.[78] She returns to the Cradle, only to find it swarmed with Savathûn's forces. Eris calls on the Guardians to take back the tree, and when they succeed, she uses the Seed of Silver Wings to receive and interpret the Pyramid's broadcasts. She begins camping at the foot of the tree, though she is regularly driven out by Savathûn's forces, requiring her to enlist the help of Guardians again to clear them out.[79]
In the meantime, Eris made reports to Zavala and reflected on the broadcasts received from the Pyramid, while also learning to cook fried rice with raisins and pineapple, using a hot plate and a makeshift wok salvaged from the Moon. While cooking, she would encounter some problems, mainly not knowing what a pineapple is, nor where to get any.[80] A Guardian named Enina later found Eris, seeking to help her with her investigations, to which Eris responded by snapping at her to bring her a pineapple. Enina returned a few weeks later, telling Eris of an arcology garden on Titan known to contain pineapple seeds. Elated, Eris sent Enina to retrieve the pineapple seeds, which she would plant in a plot of special loam, as Io's own soil does not support agriculture. At one point, Eris also spotted a strange-looking Ghost among her supplies that seemed to be spying on her for unknown reasons.
Weeks into her investigation, Eris discovered that the Tree of Silver Wings had grown a branch with leaves that resembled tiny feathers. Interpreting it as a gift from the Pyramid, she invited Zavala and the Guardian to see it. The Guardian removed the branch, and, with Eris' help, grew the branch into a weapon, the Ruinous Effigy.[81]
Eris has also enlisted the Drifter to research and investigate the Darkness, but she doesn't trust the rogue Lightbearer and monitors him. When she discovered he was recruiting the Guardian to enter the realms of the Nine for information on the Darkness, she angrily contacted him and declared he was mistaken if he thought she would allow such a thing without being involved.[82] At some point, Eris would inform Mara of the Drifter's communication with the Nine.[83]
Journey to Europa[edit]
At an unknown point, proper contact was made between Eris Morn and the Exo Stranger. Eris had previously been spied upon by the Exo Stranger through her companion, during her time on Io. Setting out with the Exo Stranger and Drifter, she traveled to Europa to discover the Pyramid located there, and also began harnessing the power of Stasis under the guidance of the Exo Stranger. However, the secret of the dark future awaiting Eris was kept from her. It is hoped by the Exo Stranger that Eris can avoid the temptations of power, straying from her fate of destroying all life as a herald of darkness.[citation needed]
Though Eris continued to find the Drifter to be obnoxious and insufferable and found the Exo Stranger very reserved, she nonetheless admitted they are better company than her solitary studies on Luna. She was pleased to see the Guardian again, she warned them that the power of Stasis is not a gift from a benevolent overseer but a tool stolen from an enemy and that only a balanced mind can aid them in mastering it, as she admits that without the Exo Stranger's guidance when she remained entangled in the Darkness. Eris would also inform the Guardian about sending a message to Zavala and Ikora regarding their cause though understands that they are wary. Yet, Eris states that even they can convince them of the necessity of wielding Stasis to survive what is to come.[citation needed]
As the Guardian made progress in wielding Stasis and battling against Eramis and her House of Salvation, Eris would comment that while they are far from true mastery, their progress marks a step forward for their cause. She hopes that by the Guardian's example, others would be encouraged to follow as the Vanguard remains wary of the trio but as they trust the Guardian, they can convince them that the Darkness can be tool used for good just as the Light has been used for evil.[citation needed]
Eris herself would also teach Stasis to other Guardians, and show them that Darkness isn't inherently evil.[84]
Glint's Investigation[edit]
During Glint's research into the mysterious Headless Ones, he asked Eris for any information on them. However, Eris stated all the impossible things she has seen, but has yet to a pumpkin-headed creature, not even on the Moon.[85]
Mars's Return[edit]
In the time since the discovery of the Europan Pyramid, Eris has continued her investigations into the Darkness, the Pyramids and their powers. It was around this time, Mars had mysteriously reappeared, albeit experiencing a form of temporal distortion. Ikora gathered her Hidden on Mars to begin an investigation of the planet's condition, requesting Eris Morn to join the effort. It was near the Martian Cradle, the Hidden discovered a structure called the Enclave and the Relic within, which Eris Morn confirmed that both were related to the Pyramids. However, the investigation would take a new turn when Savathûn revealed herself upon her ship, The Lure.[86]
The Guardian was then called in to investigate the Witch Queen's return and upon getting inside her ship and infiltrating her Throne World, they would make a horrifying discovery: The Lucent Brood and its Lightbearing Hive. The Guardian would work with Ikora in discovering how Savathûn stole the Light, with Eris providing aid in their efforts of traversing Savathûn's Throne World, specifically teaching them to hone their Deepsight abilities. During this time, Eris would continually argue the need to use Darkness-related abilities with Commander Zavala, who remains very reluctant to do so, believing it might corrupt the Guardians. Ultimately, the Guardian would discover a more shocking revelation: in looking into the Witch Queen's memories through the Altar of Reflection, learning of an entity called The Witness who supposedly commands the Black Fleet and learning of her plan to seal the Traveler away within her Throne World, they learn that after escaping the Reef following the excising of her worm, Savathûn had journeyed to Earth and came before the Traveler as a "supplicant" before ultimately dying. It was there the Traveler allowed the Ghost, Immaru, to revive Savathûn as a Lightbearer, thereby proving that the Witch Queen never stole the Light but was blessed with it.
Taking this awful truth to the Vanguard, Zavala would be left completely incredulous that the Traveler would give Savathûn, one of humanity's most devious foes, the Light. Eris would point out the Traveler's behavior of uplifting civilizations then suddenly abandoning them, as told within the Books of Sorrow, though Zavala would attempt to denounce this as Hive propaganda, Eris would counter that the Eliksni themselves speak of a similar tale. Remarking that while the Traveler made the Eliksni world a paradise, once the Witness and its Black Fleet arrived, the Traveler left them to the Whirlwind before arriving in the Sol System. At that point, Zavala angrily reminded that once the Darkness arrived in Sol, the Traveler sacrificed itself to save humanity from the Darkness which included the Hive. Yet, Zavala still couldn't comprehend the Traveler's reasons for giving the Hive the Light. Ikora, however, would state that it doesn't matter and that regardless of the Traveler's reasons, if Savathûn succeeds in her plan then the Last City would be defenseless and won't survive the Witness's return.
Resolving to stop the Witch Queen, Ikora had Eris aid her in preparing the Relic to splice into the calcified worm familiar that was found during the Guardian's investigations in the Throne World. There, Ikora learned that the Hive had been tricked from the very beginning. The Witness was aware that the Traveler would soon uplift the Krill and seeking to claim them first, had whispered to Sathona through her worm familiar, speaking of a world-ending event and goading her and her sisters into traversing the Deep, thereby encountering the Worm Gods and forming the Pact that would create the Hive species and rebirth Sathona and her sisters into the Hive Gods.
Armed with this knowledge, the Guardians would interrupt Savathûn's ritual to seal away the Traveler and using the secret of her past, they destabilized the Witch Queen enough to lose focus over the ritual, thereby undoing her spell. After a grueling battle, the Guardian succeeded in defeating Savathûn, though her Ghost managed to escape in the flash of light when the Traveler returned to the Last City.[87]
Return of the Nightmares[edit]
- "The Lunar Pyramid stirs to the Leviathan's call. It manifests our deepest regrets. They wear familiar faces and speak with familiar voices."
- — Eris Morn on the Leviathan's return.
As the foremost authority on Darkness and Pyramids within the Vanguard, Eris would take the lead in Operation: Midas, combating the situation created by the return of the Leviathan and the Nightmares spawning from it. Upon the Guardian landing on the Leviathan, it is made apparent that Calus is attempting to merge his consciousness with the Pyramid on Luna, weaponizing Nightmares to hold off anyone trying to stop him. To fight this, Eris uses her knowledge of Nightmares, Hive magic, Darkness and more to fabricate a Nightmare Harvester, and utilizing the Crown of Sorrow aboard the H.E.L.M. to intercept information about the current situation. The Harvester is put to use in a séance, binding the Nightmares of Zavala and Crow in an attempt to weaken the connection between Calus and the Pyramid on Luna. After weeks of struggle, she counsels Zavala, Crow and Empress Caiatl on overcoming their Nightmares, relying on her personal experience to guide them. Despite the efforts of Eris and the Vanguard-Cabal coalition in pacifying the Nightmares, Calus arrived on the cusp of completing his plan to merge with the Lunar Pyramid. Eris then orchestrates a grander binding ritual within which the Guardian, Zavala, Crow and Caiatl strike at Calus' psionic form in an attempt to break the transfer of Calus' consciousness from the Leviathan to the Pyramid. In destroying and containing the summoned Nightmares, the Vanguard-Cabal coalition were victorious in stopping Calus' plans.
During Operation Midas, Eris discovers that a statue of Calus within the Tribute Hall is exhibiting an unusual resonance with Darkness energy. As it turns out, this statue is linked to Calus' consciousness. She constructs a device surrounding this, which allows users to invade a dimension representing his consciousness, enabling further understanding of Calus' motivations. Bypassing the Vanguard and the usual protocol as she thinks this requires urgent investigation, she recruits the Guardian via Suraya Hawthorne to look into it. Advising a fireteam on delving into this realm, it is discovered by Eris that Calus himself is torn and haunted by his past, that he believes transformation will give him better insight into the Witness' goals, and that he seeks the "final shape". This prompts Eris that this final shape must be investigated further to be understood, as knowing what it means may help prevent a second Collapse from occurring.
Ultimately, Eris would learn that while they managed to stop Calus from completely merging with the Pyramid, he nonetheless succeeded in his goal of becoming a Disciple of the Witness, thereby making himself the harbinger of a Second Collapse. Though the Leviathan is silent, it would take months to fully clear out the vessel of the Nightmares, which Eris believes would be a wasted effort as they are now aware that the Witness is near.
Search for the Relics of Nezarec[edit]
Following the containment of the Nightmares, Eris Morn would provide what expertise she could as the Guardians worked with Mithrax and the Drifter in gathering the Pieces of Nezarec before Eramis and the Old Crews could. She would correspond with the Drifter a few times after he made her a gift but also provided a brief lecture to Eido, Mithrax's daughter and House Light's scribe, on the nature of both the Light and Darkness, specifically that neither is the singular source of knowledge and truth.
Studying the God of War[edit]
As the Guardian and Bray sisters worked together to restore Rasputin and defeat Xivu Arath, Eris Morn and Eido attempted to decipher her plans. Eris would realize the more they fight Xivu Arath, the stronger she becomes. Eido declared they must send a message to the Techeuns, so Mara Sov could stop Rasputin from being restored and strengthening Xivu Arath.[88]
Sloane's Return[edit]
Eris would meet with the Drifter upon the Derelict. The Drifter asked Eris to share with Sloane her experiences in the Hellmouth, to help her through her similar experience when Titan was Taken. However, Eris told him that he should be the one to speak to her and share his experiences. The Drifter didn't think Sloane would trust him, but Eris told him he must build trust by being vulnerable.[89]
Eris Morn would look upon her unbandaged face, and reflect on how she does weep for her condition, as it gave her the strength and time she needed to survive the Hellmouth. As she covers her eyes once more, she sees her Hive eyes as a sense of power.[90]
Embracing Vengeance[edit]
Though the Vanguard made efforts to follow the Witness into the Traveler, each one failed. However, upon Titan's return and reuniting with Deputy Commander Sloane, they learn from the rogue Worm Ahsa that the only one who may know of a possible way to pass through the gateway is the Witch Queen herself. Realizing that they would have to allow Immaru to bring back their most devious foes, the Vanguard felt they had no other choice since their options were already severely limited. Reaching out to Savathûn's Ghost and stating their terms, Immaru countered with a bargain of his own: the Witch Queen anticipated that the Guardians would need her help and has the answers they may need, but first, they must deal with her sister, Xivu Arath, for good. Despite the terms, Ikora and Eris agreed, with the latter creating a relic called the Acolyte's Staff to help the Guardians weave the Hive's spells and reveal paths as Immaru guided them. However, in a recording the Witch Queen left behind within a secret location within Savathûn's Throne World, Savathûn's Spire, they cannot confront the Hive God of War head-on, for Xivu Arath feeds off of all conflict. Only a Hive God of equal strength could possibly defeat Xivu Arath, under the rules of the Sword Logic.
Eris gifted Eido a collection of tomes on the nature of Hive rituals and runes. After much research, Eido remembered Eris was preparing for a ritual and planned to wish her good luck.[91]
Understanding that only she could become the Hive God needed to defeat Xivu Arath, Eris began preparations for a ritual to transform herself. Ikora firmly speaks against this plan, fearing what it will do to her. Eris plainly stated that there is no other way to defeat Xivu Arath, for a continued stalemate with the War God would not be feasible. Only by leeching from the Hive's tithe system, with the Guardian serving as her acolyte, would Eris become strong enough to defeat Xivu Arath. The ritual began, and speaking the Worm Gods' names, Eris's form contorts, Hive chitin covering her body, until she became an entity akin to the Hive. As the new Hive God of Vengeance, Eris directed the Guardians of the Vanguard to begin collecting their tithes by using the ritual sites beneath Savathûn's Spire, the Altars of Summoning. Through the tithes collected by Guardians, Eris began feeding, slowly growing in strength.
Rahool would be tasked by Zavala to investigate the Acolyte's Staff. Concluding that the charms and Worm provided a loophole in Sword Logic, he sought out Eris herself for more answers. However as he arrived in the Athenaeum, Eris began transforming into her Hive form, causing Rahool to flee.[92]
Eris wrote a letter to Mara Sov not apologizing for transforming into a Hive god, and says that she is no longer afraid. She thinks about how Mara chose to sacrifice herself during the Battle of Saturn to halt Oryx's fleet. She explains that she is prepared to do the same.[93]
Eris asked Eido for her perspective on the Deck of Whispers. Eido remained distracted, looking at the ritual circle where Eris transformed. Eris would tell her she transforms both here, and the oubliette. Eido would ask if she forgets when she transforms, but Eris would state she remains herself always, and wondered if others had lied more convincingly.[94]
Eventually, after many weeks of tithing, Eris Morn called the Guardian to her Athenaeum, telling them that it was time to return to the Witch Queen's oubliette and perform a ritual that would allow Eris to directly challenge the Hive God of War. Once there, Immaru attempts to run away, believing that this plan will end disastrously, however, Eris forces him to stay, saying that he will either witness their triumph or die as one of them. Opening the Altar of The Sword, the Guardian enters the ritual space and is immediately forced to fight Xivu Arath's champion, Leviathan-Eater, Bane of the Ammonites. After managing to defeat the Hive champion, Eris Morn reveals her true plan. By having Immaru resurrect the Witch Queen, Eris would then slay her once more, gaining all of her power, eons and eons of hoarded lies and deceit, making her the most powerful Hive God to ever exist. Using this power, instead of finishing the ritual and challenging the War God, Eris uses her newfound power to sever Xivu Arath’s connection to her Throne World and banish her from it, making her mortal and able to be killed. Eris then collapses to the ground, no longer the Hive God of Vengeance.
Afterwards, Savathun is resurrected once again, laughing and claiming that she deserved that, and she delights in learning that Eris has managed to make Xivu mortal. Ikora then confronts Savathun regarding her promise to show the Vanguard how to enter the portal, but Savathun merely says that they already know how, as she had just shown them. Ikora threatens Savathûn, and the Witch Queen claims that Ikora doesn’t have the power to take her on, but the Guardian butts in, saying they did. With a sigh, Savathûn offered a peace offering, her faithful First Ghost Immaru would stay in Vanguard custody willingly and could be crushed at any time if the Vanguard felt that Savathûn was plotting against them. With that, the Witch Queen flees, laughing and leaving the four more confused than ever.[95]
Later, Immaru would sense something was wrong with Savathûn, so Eris let him go to her Throne World to discover what happened.[96]
Left Behind[edit]
As Mara bargained with Riven to create a way into the Traveler, Eris confided in the Drifter about her feelings of helplessness as Mara, Ikora, and the rest of her friends prepared to enter the Traveler. Unsure of the shape Riven's bargain would take, she believed that both she and the Drifter would not be among the front lines when the path was made. Drifter embraced her and reminded her that she once told him they would live through the night if they had to. Eris questioned why he hadn't left Sol yet, and he told her that he would miss the moonlight.[97]
Preparing for the Final Shape[edit]
As preparations were underway for Operation Ahamkara, Eris Morn offered the Guardian to send them into a memory of their experiences when they first obtained Whisper of the Worm, allowing her to craft a more powerful version.[98] The following weeks Eris would continue to unlock the weapon's potential, as the Guardian travelled back into the memory.[99]
At Shaxx's request, the Guardian visited Eris Morn on their journey to inspire hope among their friends and allies. Eris noted that Shaxx has them on the front lines again, and offers them her expertise as she cannot join them due to the toll her transformation into a Hive god took on her. Thinking about her lack of Light to aid her recovery, she requests that the Guardian visit more mortals, such as Devrim and Hawthorne.[100]
Archie would travel to the Moon and wanted to play fetch with Eris, but she redirected his attention to the railgun at Archer's Line. The Guardian would arrive after questioning Ada-1 on his disappearance, and Eris pointed them in his direction. Later he would travel to the Lunar Pyramid, despite Eris's warnings.[101]
Preventing the Final Shape[edit]
While Ikora, Zavala, and the Guardian entered the Pale Heart, Eris waited with the Drifter on the H.E.L.M. for the signal to attack. The Drifter contemplated a jade coin with the image of a Pyramid on it, and Eris informed him that cryptic non-answers aren't needed for the future ahead of them.[102]
Eris joined the Coalition forces for the final stand against the Witness. The army attacked the Witness, severing its hold over the Traveler's Light and in a direct attack, struck at the Witness directly, unmaking it with a tremendous surge of Light. At last, the War against the Witness was over, with the Coalition and the people of the Last City rejoicing.[103]
Savathûn's Next Plan[edit]
Eris turned to the Deck of Whispers once more to help her decipher Savathûn and Xivu Arath's plans since the Witness's defeat. The cards no longer whispered to her, but she still used them occasionally to provide a new perspective on her questions. She drew three cards: the Witch, the Adherant, and the Harbinger, intended to represent the two sisters and Eris. As she drew the third card, she sensed the sisters would come for her soon. The fourth and final card she drew was the Lament, intended to represent Oryx and the Dreadnaught.[104]
Personality and traits[edit]
- "You saved us all. Your sacrifice—"
"I am still here. My sacrifice was—"
"Enough"
"And I should ask new heroes to fall... as they did?"
"It is why we were reborn in the Light."" - — Ikora Rey and Eris
Secretive, vengeful, quiet and heavily somber, Eris Morn exemplifies nearly every trait of a hardened and scarred survivor. Though it is largely unknown what type of person Eris was before the mission in the Hellmouth, she was no doubt a loyal teammate to her fellow Guardians. However, following her experiences deep within Crota's domain and the tragic loss of her friends at the hands of the Hive Prince have left Eris bitter, hardened and dark. Since emerging from the Hellmouth, Eris became obsessively determined to achieve vengeance in the name of her fallen friends, striving to take down the Hive as a whole.
Despite still being loyal to the Last City following her traumatic experience, denizens of the Tower are often uncomfortable with her dark moods, with the Speaker and Zavala often finding her foreboding warnings of the Hive to be a sickness. Likewise, Eris does not see the value or point of the Last City's holidays and traditions such as The Dawning and the Festival of the Lost. Ikora, however, continued to show support and faith in Eris, which led to her becoming a member of the Warlock Vanguard's Hidden. Cayde-6, on the other hand, often made comedic jabs at Eris, especially when they worked together during the Taken War, which Eris did not exactly appreciate. Thus, she heavily scorned the Hunter Vanguard. Despite this, Eris did show a measure of sadness after learning of Cayde's death at the hands of Uldren Sov and the Scorn. The only member of the Tower whom she maintained a true friendship was with the Gensym Scribe, Asher Mir, finding kindred spirits in each other due to the changing experiences they have had at the hands of aliens. In regards to the Guardian, Eris showed respect for their efforts in protecting the Last City and gratitude for listening to her warnings. She was especially grateful for their actions in slaying Crota and Oryx, granting her vengeance for the friends she lost. However, she warns the Guardian not to grow accustomed to their victories, for she always (and rightly) believed that a greater threat would be waiting and must be prepared for. Upon working together again in combating the Nightmares, Eris grows grateful in the Guardian's efforts to lay her demons to rest and in finding lost mementos to her former fireteam.
Even though Eris possesses an unending hatred for the Hive who took everything from her, she has become one of the Last City's foremost experts on the Hive, second to or even rivaling Toland, the Shattered, bearing in-depth knowledge on their practices, powers, deities and intentions. The Guardian and Ghost appreciate her knowledge on the Hive, as it saved their lives multiple times and aided them in defeating their enemies. Zavala himself often defers to Eris's expertise on the Hive and Taken whenever possible.
Most uniquely, Eris bears strong connections to powerful and legendary figures in the Solar System, namely Queen Mara Sov and Osiris. For an unknown time, she maintained a level of communication with the exiled warlock. With Mara Sov however, Eris possessed a level of trust and respect with the Reef Queen, having full knowledge of her plans in the Battle of Saturn and what needed to be done to achieve victory against Oryx. Further, she relayed her findings in creating Throne Worlds to Mara and what information she had on Savathûn, the Witch-Queen.

- "Enemies of the Light swarm the roots of the great tree. Bring the Seed and banish them once more."
- "Savathûn's forces attack the Cradle. Destroy them, and use the Seed to reveal the secrets that sleep within."
- "Nokris? Oryx's foundling and exiled brother to Crota. He is now bound to Savathûn as a catalyst for her interference. Silence it."
Trivia[edit]
- Eris is voiced by Morla Gorrondona.
- Eris is the goddess of discord in Greek mythology.
- During the Festival of the Lost, Eris gives the player the item Tiny Box of Raisins, instead of the candy given by all other vendors. The raisins seemed useless and could only be discarded. As of update 2.4.1 they became Ascendant Raisins and grant a Grimoire card to those who still have them. In their place the player is given Piece of Celery.
- In Destiny 2, the Guardian gives her Ascendant Oatmeal Raisin cookies.
- Her past and experiences with the Hive, mirror that of the Fallen Scorn Baron, Hiraks, the Mindbender, as he survived the Hellmouth as a Dreg and emerged changed. However, where Eris desired vengeance on the Hive, Hiraks grew obsessed with them and their powers.
- In Shadowkeep, Eris is haunted by the phantoms of her former Fireteam. At the start of the campaign, she is accompanied by just one phantom but as the story progresses, a total of five haunt her.
- It is possible for the phantoms to dissipate one by one when the player brings Eris their respective mementos every other week. Afterwards, her attire will change slightly with the addition of Hive-enchanted embroidery.
- In the dark future experienced by the Exo Stranger, Eris becomes leader of the army of Darkness-aligned beings. In this future, she subjugates the Vex to her own control, corrupts Ana Bray into a double agent for Darkness, and commits other nefarious deeds that lead to the destruction of all that is good in Sol.
- Eris has been shown to write left-handed.[106]
