Phry'zhia, the Insatiable is a massive Hive Ogre, encountered in the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon as the first boss.[1] It later appears in Savathûn's Throne World when the Heroic version of the Resonant Destruction Public Event becomes active,[2] along with making a brief appearance near the beginning of The Ritual Mission in The Witch Queen expansion.[3]

Gameplay

Grasp of Avarice

Upon entering the Rusted Gangplank, the Fireteam will see Phry'zhia and a group of Hive battle against a team of Fallen. To begin the encounter, the team must jump across the chasm into the battlefield and seize the Scorch Cannon from the Vandal. From there the team must use the Scorch Cannon to open one of two doors on each side of the encounter. Once one of the doors is opened by firing a charged blast from the cannon into a receptacle, the text: Dormant Hive stir to protect their wealth appears as a small group of Acolytes and two Knights appear to confront the Fireteam who drop Cursed Engrams upon death. Once the room is cleared of enemies the second room becomes accessible via the same way, allowing for more Cursed Engrams to be gained and deposited into the Icon of Avarice located at the back of the arena.

Once forty Cursed Engrams are deposited into the Icon of Avarice, the crystal emanates a bright white mist, attracting Phry'zhia, the Insatiable's attention. Once it reaches the crystal, the text Phry'zhia, the Insatiable Succumbs to Temptation and its immunity shield disappears, allowing it to be damaged for forty seconds. However Phry'zhia becomes such more mobile, allowing it to walk up onto the second floor to chase any foes who attempt to gain some distance from it and is able to go into a rage once two thirds of its health is depleted. Once the timer is up, Phry'zhia gains its shield back and teleports back to middle of the arena as the text: Phry'zhia, the Insatiable Resists Temptation Once More. The process repeats until Phry'zhia, the Insatiable is defeated.

Resonant Destruction (Heroic)

Phry'zhia is encountered again at the Florescent Canal within Savathûn's Throne World, when the Heroic version of the Resonant Destruction Public Event is triggered. It appears as a giant Lucent Brood Ultra Ogre after Gee'yom, Resonant Saboteur has been defeated and the Resonant Splinter has been ferried to its destination, given that participating players were successful in throwing six Resonant Charges at the Splinter's core before it reached the end. Phry'zhia will spawn with more hordes of Hive enemies to provide support against the Guardians. The Ogre will blast anyone who catches its gaze with Void projectiles, quickly draining their health, and has a powerful stomp attack that it can use to send players flying backward if they get to close. Other than this, however, it is severely lacking in abilities and mechanics, especially in comparison to its appearance in the dungeon, and can be finished off quickly and easily with enough brute force. Killing it results in the successful completion of the Heroic event, and players who took part may claim their rewards from the chest that spawns.

The Ritual

Phry'zhia, in its Lucent Brood form, emerges from the portal in the Florescent Canal after all enemies have been killed. While it menacingly roars at the player, Ikora will intervene, telling the player to hold their fire, and defeat them with a Nova Bomb. If one attacks the Ogre when playing the Weekly Mission, however, they can see Phry'zhia's name appear in the kill feed, with +0 points added to the score, when it is terminated by Ikora.

Trivia

  • If players reach the Rusted Gangplank fast enough, they can observe Phry'zhia enter the arena by vaulting over the back wall.
  • Phry'zhia reappears during in The Witch Queen expansion: once during the final mission of its campaign, The Ritual, as well as acting as the final boss of the Heroic version of the Resonant Destruction public event. However, it appears as a normal Ultra Ogre of the Lucent Brood, lacking any of its armor from the dungeon. It is unknown if this was intentional or a developer oversight.
    • Given the confirmation that the Lucent Brood assimilated the Grasp of Nokris and makes use of its Necromancers, Phry'zhia may have been raised in the same way Vorlog was.
  • The area where one fights Phry'zhia during Grasp of Avarice shares similarities with The Devils' Lair area in the eponymous Strike.
  • During Season of the Seraph, Phry'zhia was renamed "Ravenous Ogre" in its dungeon health bar, though the objective description called them by their correct name. Its name was restored in Season of the Deep.
