Savathûn's Spire was a Seasonal activity that was introduced in Season of the Witch.

Overview

When the Vanguard were told by Ahsa that Savathûn knows a way to follow The Witness, they would reach out to Immaru. He would agree to help them and resurrect Savathûn, but would say they must deal first deal with Xivu Arath, God of War, and Savathûn's Spire holds what they need. The Guardian would infiltrate the Spire and defeat Hive and Scorn. Eris Morn would use Hive magic to transform herself into the Hive God of Vengeance.

• Eris Morn: Ascend Savathûn’s Spire. We shall see what mysteries await us.

• Eris Morn: Savathûn's dire machinations echo through these halls. She whispers from the past, anticipating each outcome.
• Immaru: She left you some recordings. It ain't that deep.

• Savathûn: You've accepted my proposal. We have mutual interests, after all... despite our bad blood. You might not believe me, but... I love my sister. But to us Hive, love is death. No one knows more about killing her than I do.

• Eris Morn: There is something... vile at the heart of this place. Steeped in Hive magic, but bound by the Light.
• Ikora: Savathûn planned for this moment.
• Immaru: She knew the Guardian would end up here eventually, Eris Morn in tow.

• Ikora: These tithes are reckless.
• Eris Morn: Reckless? No. I know the danger, and I will accept the outcome.
• Ikora: And if I won't accept it?
• Eris Morn: That is what will lead us into recklessness.

Xivu's Arrival

The fireteam ascends the Spire.

• Immaru: You hear that? ...She’s in our heads.
• Ikora: I hear it.
• Xivu Arath: THE HELIUM DRINKERS. THE AMMONITES. WE SOUNDED THEIR END WITH OUR BLADES. THE ECUMENE. THE HARMONY. THEY WAILED IN TERROR AS WE SANG THEIR EXTINCTION. HUMANITY HAS JOINED THE CHORUS OF OUR WAR ETERNAL.
• Ikora: What is she doing?
• Eris Morn: Xivu Arath issues her challenge.
• Immaru: You've really done it now. You need to chase Xivu’s goons out of here before they take over.
• Eris Morn: Guardian, press on!
• Xivu Arath: ERIS MORN. MEET ME AS HIVE, AND SEND FORTH YOUR BROOD. HAVE YOUR LIARS PAY TRIBUTE TO THEIR GOD, SO I MAY SEE HER VENGEANCE.

Week 3

The fireteam ascends the Spire.

• Eris Morn: When the Hive gods made their pact with the worms of Fundament, they were bound to fulfill their ambitions, lest their worm devour them. Oryx sought understanding. Savathûn sought lies and trickery. Xivu Arath has fatted her worm on the strength of civilizations. And all that remains of those are the epitaphs etched in the pages of Hive apocrypha.
• Immaru: She always like this? Lighten up a little! Yeesh.

• Immaru: So, what'll be on your civilization's tombstone? "Here lies humanity. We thought we were the center of the universe, right up until a Hive God tore us apart."
• Eris Morn: We will have no such inscription.
• Immaru: Yeah. That's right. Because there won't be anything — at all.

• Immaru: Xivu IS war. And as far as I can see, that's what we're in. So what's your pet Hive's plan?
• Ikora: No one is more versed in Hive magic than Eris Morn. She'll find a way. She has to.

Week 7

The fireteam ascends the Spire.

• Immaru: The boss is singing your praises. You did everything she asked, and you did it with style. She liked watching you tear through her Lucent Hive. Very sword logic. I guess old habits die hard. I know we're all cozy, but don't think we'll go easy on you after this. We still gotta "make ourselves sharp," don't we?

• Ikora: My Hidden are looking for Xivu Arath, but apart from lingering Wrathborn it seems she's gone to ground.
• Eris Morn: That was enough for Savathûn. She used us to continue an age-old game between her and her sister.
• Ikora: And we played into her hands.
• Eris Morn: Yes. But we have what we need, and Xivu Arath’s position is weakened. That must be enough for us as well.

• Savathûn: I built this Spire piece by piece with my will. Everything here serves one purpose: mastery of our Light. You Guardians have tested the Light's boundaries for as long as you've had it. I thought I'd do the same. After so many years finding the limits of Hive magic, it was lovely to stretch my wings.

• Savathûn: These Hive crystals contain powerful Light. Do you know where that comes from? I think you do. You've ripped it out of enough of your cousins to know that by now. My Brood did the same on Titan. You've become so good at it. I enjoy watching you work.

Second Encounter

The fireteam reaches a barrier bound by Hive runes.
The fireteam uses the Acolyte’s Staff to invoke Hive magic, dispelling the barrier.
In the room, an elemental ball of Light sits in the center.

Arc Light

A ball of Arc Light in the center of the room, sporadically shoots out hazardous bolts of energy.
The fireteam is inflicted with Shock.

• Eris Morn: Break the charge of Arc energy to contain its Light.

• Ikora: One of Savathûn's experiments with Arc Light. Interrupt its charge.

Solar Light

• Savathûn: Xivu Arath can't be confronted. That's what she wants, and she always gets exactly what she wants. So spoiled. So loved. You'll have to find another way. Only her equal could ever have a hope of overcoming the threat of my sister's war march. Only a Hive.

• Eris Morn: So it rests with me.
• Ikora: Eris?

• Savathûn: My sister depends on the foundations of her cold logic. If you want to remove her from the board, you'll need to test her thesis. There's power for the taking, Eris. And for that... you'll have to prove your right to exist.

• Immaru: You some kind of expert on Hive runes?
• Eris Morn: Yes. Each rune manifests their referent. Death brings death, lies bring lies. We seize them with our inscriptions, grasping their malign power. We wield them as we wield fear.
• Immaru: Yeah, yeah, aiat aiat. Forget I asked.

• Immaru: Savathûn really thinks some half-Hive half-wit can take out her sister. We're all doomed.
• Ikora: Say that again. Eris will survive this, but believe me: you won’t survive Eris.
• Immaru: You’re all bluffing. You can’t crush me; I’m too important.
• Ikora: For now... but your freedom of movement is a privilege... and we have a crate just for you.

• Ikora: Hive runes aren't letters. They're logograms. Each one represents a word or idea. Their patterns draw power from their meaning, and their orientation casts a spell. Eris uses them in her rituals... and we can use them now.

• Xivu Arath: ERIS MORN. YOUR BROOD ARMS THEMSELVES WITH MY BROTHER’S MANTLE. YOUR ACOLYTES PAY TRIBUTE BY MY BROTHER’S LAW. FEED YOUR WORM AS I FEED MINE. I SHALL TEST MY STRENGTH AGAINST YOUR VENGEANCE. WE WILL HAVE OUR TITHES. YOU DROVE MY SISTER TO HER THRONE, AND SHE FOUND TRUE DEATH BY YOUR COMPREHENSION. YOU CHASED MY BROTHER TO HIS THRONE, AND HE FELL AS HIS CHILDREN, BY YOUR ASSIDUITY.
• Eris Morn: And so you will fall!
• Xivu Arath: COME. MY COURT IS WAR, AND YOU WILL FIND ME THERE.

• Eris Morn: We must drive Xivu Arath from this place, or she will overrun the Throne World and take the tithes I am owed.
• Xivu Arath: YOU CRAVE AS I CRAVE. YOU LOVE AS I LOVE. PROVE YOURSELF WITH YOUR EXISTENCE, AS I HAVE PROVED MY OWN. I WILL KILL YOU OVER AND OVER, FOREVER AND EVER. OUR WAR IS AS MY BROTHER’S LOVE. AIAT.

Week 3

The fireteam continues through the labyrinth.

• Immaru: You think Eris will finally lose her marbles? She seemed short a few when she started. This might be the thing that finally knocks ‘em loose.
• Ikora: Enough.
• Immaru: What? I hear how your Guardians talk. They ain't exactly discreet.
• Ikora: We trust Eris to get this done.
• Immaru: Huh. You really think so? Might want to check your comms because that's not what I'm hearing.

• Immaru: You're going toe-to-toe with Xivu Arath. Wonder what that tusked-up tyrant thinks about that.
• Ikora: The empress trusts Eris to get this done. After everything with her father, she's earned some rest.

• Savathûn: That the Hellmouth was the best thing that ever happened to her.

• Eris Morn: I can imagine why. She fears phantoms. Futures that have not come to pass. I do not fault her for her concern. Tell her I am not alone.
• Ikora: I don’t know if she’ll understand.
• Eris Morn: She has to.

• Ikora: Eris, you have to take time to rest. These transformations... you know I don't like this. I don't like what you become.

• Eris Morn: Not all are Hive. Sel, Ora, Leis... they were Ahsa’s sisters. Dead, or lost. She whispered their names to me, and I invoked them alongside the worm gods both slain and living.
• Ikora: I see. Ahsa is one of our greatest allies. I just hope she finds time to rest.

It must have been good to see her finally cut loose. When you peeked under that bandage, what did you see? I think it was her truth. I love that for her.

• Ikora: Savathûn gambles in possibilities, not certainties. Predictions are only as accurate as hindsight makes them. We could have failed. What Savathûn did was an act of faith.

• Xivu Arath: ERIS MORN. YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS ONLY WAR. YOU PROVE MY LOGIC TRUE. MEET ME IN BLOOD. MATCH ME IN VIOLENCE. OUR BROODS WILL FEED US WITH THEIR TRIBUTE.
• Eris Morn: Xivu Arath. When this is finished, you will turn and run, and your worm will gnaw at you as if you were a buried corpse. You will have no tribute then... and you will starve.
• Immaru: This isn't over. Xivu will keep coming until she wins her war.
• Ikora: We need to rethink our plan.
• Eris Morn: No. Our plan needs no revision. Her presence proves its efficacy. We must press on.
• Ikora: We can't fight her!
• Eris Morn: But we can hold the line until a way forward is found. Guardian, proceed to the Witch Queen's wretched oubliette. Claim the tithes before Xivu Arath takes them as spoils of her eternal war.
• Ikora: I don't like this.
• Eris Morn: You don’t need to.

• Eris Morn: Your brother is dead! He failed, and his children failed.
• Xivu Arath: YOU ARE THE BLADE HE HAS APPOINTED. NOW AND FOREVER OUR KING.

• Eris Morn: Oryx and Savathûn couldn't truly kill their sister. It was a game to them. It was love. If they died, they would simply return to their thrones.
• Ikora: And they did that over and over again to make themselves stronger. We cut Xivu Arath’s safety net.
• Immaru: So, you took her toys away. Now what?
• Ikora: We deal with the Witness. Then, we deal with her.

• Immaru: You didn't kill Xivu Arath, so what makes her less dangerous now?
• Eris Morn: I severed her connection to her throne world. They allow their creators a method of resurrection, but they have limits. Oryx brought his throne world into his Dreadnaught’s embrace. That vanity was his undoing. The Guardians breached it, and destroyed him. So, too, did his sister perish when she welcomed us into her throne world. The Guardians found Savathûn there and ended her life. But Xivu Arath’s undoing will be for lack of a throne. And when that happens, I will smile.

• Savathûn: You know, my sister's violence comes from a place of love. Even when we were young and playing Swords and Lanterns, she wanted to cut apart the universe so that she could survive it. That’s how Xivu Arath shows her love.

Gameplay

Savathûn's Spire is a three player matchmade activity launched from the H.E.L.M. It features two Surge Modifiers, one Threat modifier, all rotating, and the Heroic modifier, as well as Shielded Foes, though it is not listed. A Legend version is also available, with no matchmaking, locked loadouts, Champions and Overcharged Weapons. Both modes also feature the Deck of Whispers.

Starting with Week 3, Wrathborn have a chance to be fought instead of the Lucent Brood. Hive biomatter will encased the ritual sites and Xivu Arath's sigil will float through the arenas with soulfire.

First Encounter

At the entrance of the Spire, the players will see their drawn card, and then have to Invoke Hive Magic to begin the activity. The specifics of each encounter can be found in the Enemies page, and they take place as described. Once the encounter is completed, the players will be lifted up deeper in the Spire.

The Ascent

After the first encounter is complete, the players will have to navigate onto precarious platforms between deadly obstacles to reach the second encounter. There is a weekly rotating secret chest in this area, as well as elementally attuned Opaque Cards.

Second Encounter

After drawing their cards and Invoking Hive Magic, the second encounter will begin. In addition to the base mechanics of the enemies within, there will be a sphere of concentrated Light in the middle of the room. Staying close to the sphere will fling the player away after a little, and the Light will activate its effect during the encounter. Solar Light will burn all players in the area, requiring them to take cover in the shadow to avoid being burned. Arc Light will bathe an area in electricity, obstructing vision and continuously damaging players within. Void Light will tether players in place, making it impossible for them to move, and if they jump, they will be drawn towards it.

After the encounter is complete, a portal will open and allow the players to proceed.

The Labyrinth

The second traversal section begins in front of a set of three Hive runes and four portals marked by runes. Players should memorize the three runes and jump through the portals marked by them, as this will allow them to use a Rally Banner at the end of the section, before confronting the final boss. As with the Ascent, there are weekly rotating secret chests and elementally attuned Opaque Cards hidden in the maze, as well as deadly traps.

Final Encounter

After the Labyrinth is completed and the card is drawn, players can Invoke Hive Magic to activate a portal to the final encounter. The middle portal will bring them to the Lucent Hive Wardens, the right portal leads to a Scorn Experiment, and the left portal to a Wrathborn Incursion. In this encounter, a Reclaimant of Savathûn may appear. Killing it before it teleports away will reward players with additional loot, keys and offerings.

Once the final encounter is complete, players can spend their Witch's Keys, and the activity ends.
