The Drifter

Malfeasance is an exotic Hand Cannon introduced in Forsaken and obtainable through the Seething Heart Quest. When an enemy is hit with 5 or more shots, the slugs in the target all detonate, causing massive damage to the target, as well as a smaller amount of damage to surrounding enemies. [1]

With the release of Season of Plunder, Malfeasance was granted an additional perk and is now intrinsically Unstoppable.

Acquisition

Previously, The Quest was triggered by defeating the Ascendant Primeval Servitor, a Chimera that appeared randomly as a Primeval boss in Gambit. Following the changes to Gambit in The Witch Queen update, the Ascendant Primeval was removed, as its custom shielding mechanics conflicted with new mechanics. The quest now must be first obtained from the quest archive, and the quest begins on the first regular Primeval kill. It will drop a Seething Heart which needs to be brought back to The Drifter, who will send them to the Dreaming City to kill 25 Taken bosses or yellow-bars. The entrance to the Blind Well is a good place for this, as the Taken and the Scorn will constantly move against each other.

The next step is a mission version of the Strike The Corrupted. The player will head to Callum Sol's Grave to obtain a Depleted Weapon Core, which will start the next step when brought back to the Drifter.

The next step requires the player to win Gambit matches and deposit motes. However, dropped motes will subtract x2, so the safest strategy is to frequently deposit only a few at a time, to avoid the risk of exposure to invading rivals or being slain by dangerous hostiles while carrying motes.

The last step requires the player to defeat 25 opposing Guardians, either by invading the other side or killing an invading enemy, and defeat 4 opponents during a single invade. This step can be completed by either themselves or a teammate, but requires three team wipes from a teammate instead of 1. When both tasks are completed, the Malfeasance will be rewarded when visiting the Drifter again.

Lore

Yes, I wrote you a note. I want you to burn this in your memory. If you're wielding this gun, I've already told you all this and more. But I want you to keep it fresh in mind.

I want you to have this. You may need it. You and I have done a lot together in this system, and I hope and pray we'll get to do a lot more.

It'll be a lot safer with you wearin' one of these. It's the culmination of a lot of things. Long time ago I set out to find a replacement for a weapon called Thorn. This will never be that, but to me, it's better. We built it together.

And all of us, with this in hand? Even the Man with the Golden Gun should have pause.

Maybe we can't out-shoot him. Maybe he can't be out-shot. But if we all take our shot together? We don't have to beat him to it.

He'll die, too.

Remember this. For when the day comes.
