Dendron, Root Mind[1] was a Vex Axis Mind that featured as the main boss of A Garden World Strike. First encountered in the Simulant Past of Mercury within the Infinite Forest, it played a significant role in not only Mercury's conversion into a Machine world, but also the creation of the Infinite Forest and by extension Panoptes, Infinite Mind.

Biography

Dendron was housed within a massive Vex Cyclops chassis, with gold and white detailing that marked it as a member of the Sol Primeval atop a spire in the Simulant Past. As the Vex Mind responsible for Mercury's conversion into a machine world, Dendron channeled Arc energy into a Vex spire producing Radiolaria across the planet's surface. It was soon after then met and destroyed by a time-traveling Guardian and their Ghost possessed by Sagira, who were looking for the algorithm that created the Infinite Forest itself.

After the destruction of Panoptes, Osiris attempted to recreate the Root Mind but under his control, only for the simulated Dendron to achieve sentience and reasserted dominance over the Forest in Panoptes' place. It was then destroyed by a fireteam of Guardians under Osiris' request.

Gameplay

Once Dendron was reached atop the spire, it could be seen in stasis, remaining behind an impenetrable shield until said shield was disrupted, by destroying the matrix connected to it. Once it was forcefully awakened, Dendron would switch to attack mode, where it circled around the battlefield and fired a Chronology Rifle, or fired a large Time Distortion projectile, that slowed any who was hit by it. Once every third of its health that was drained, it would re-enter stasis mode and awaken several Minotaurs located at the edges of the arena, which required a matrix located in a nearby shield to be destroyed to be damageable. Once the awoken Minotaurs were destroyed, Dendron would continue the fight. This process would repeat again and Dendron would be destroyed.
