The Nightmare of Anaphex, Sworn to Otzot is the Nightmare of a powerful Psion Flayer and devotee of Freeborn Otzot. It can be encountered as a final boss of the Nightmare Containment Public Event on board the Derelict Leviathan.[1]

Gameplay

The Nightmare of Anaphex can appear every three days as the featured Tier 3 boss of the Nightmare Containment Public Event, which takes place in the Castellum on the Derelict Leviathan.

After the first two tiers of the event have finished, participants must head to the large gates on the side of the area opposite to the spawn point. There, you must plant the Nightmare Harvester to begin the final boss encounter, and the Nightmare of Anaphex will spawn with several reinforcements. The Psion brings a Projection Rifle into battle, capable of firing explosive projectiles that travel long distances. Getting too close will cause it to unleash a powerful psionic blast from its hand, which will send you flying backwards into the air. As a Void Flayer, the Nightmare of Anaphex also possesses an ability of Niruul, the Hollow Voice: that being to unleash a shock wave that causes Guardians to become detained in spherical prisons, holding them in place and making them easier targets. To free yourself, or other players, shooting any of the large, white orbs forming these cages will disable them, which can be done from both the inside and outside. The boss is backed up by waves of continuously spawning Cabal Loyalists. Some of these reinforcements will drop Web Mines disguised as Heavy Ammo upon being killed.

Once the Nightmare of Anaphex has lost a third of its health, it will become invincible and teleport out of the battlefield. Following this, an orbital bombardment will commence, and missiles will begin raining down on the area. In order to progress the fight, participants must first take out the three Atavist Illusions that spawn. Successfully eliminating one will cause an Egregore Atavist to appear in its place, which you must then kill. After all three of each have been defeated, the Nightmare of Anaphex will reemerge and you may resume damaging it. You will have to repeat this process a second time after taking out another third of the boss's health, which will cause it to retreat once again. When it does return to the fight, two Elite Loyalist Incendiors will spawn alongside it, both of which have a glowing aura around them. These enemies will drop Cores of Dread when they die, which can be deposited at the Harvester to manifest Scythe relics to use in battle against the Psion and its forces. If you are able to defeat the Nightmare of Anaphex before the time runs out and the event finishes automatically, you can collect gear from the opulent chest that spawns. You may also spend five-hundred Vestiges of Dread to obtain more powerful loot from the Harvester.

Trivia

  • The Nightmare of Anaphex's reinforcements will sometimes drop Web Mines disguised as Heavy Ammo when they die, despite this being Fallen technology rather than Cabal. These traps, specifically, were also utilized by the Araskes, the Trickster, a deceased Baroness of the Scorn.
