Phogoth is one of the three Nightmares you hunt during the campaign of [[Shadowkeep]]. Much like its once-living counterpart, the players will have to travel into the depths of the [[Hellmouth]], all the way into the Summoning Pits, to face it. Once the players approach its phantasmal aura, the Nightmare will manifest and begin roaring and firing its Eye Blasts. Also like its living counterpart, its weak spot is not its eye, but the pulsating heart in its chest. It will also summon two [[Nightmare Acolyte]]s. Once it is significantly wounded, it may decide to become phantasmal and invulnerable, summoning a [[Minor]] [[Knight]], a small horde of [[Thrall]]s with Nightmare auras, as well as two of either Nightmare Acolytes or [[Nightmare Thrall]]s. Once the lesser Nightmares are dealt with, it will become vulnerable again, and the cycle will repeat. After reaching half health, all the Minor Thrall it summons will be equipped with powerful [[Solar]] [[Absorption Shield]]s. Phogoth is not a complex boss overall, being a very large and slow target, and defeating it amounts to being capable of stopping enemies from overwhelming you.

The Nightmare of Phogoth will also appear as one of the Final Nightmares fought in the [[Altars of Sorrow]], where it will mostly stand still in front of the Scarlet Keep, pelting the Guardians with its Eye Blast.

Eris Morn.

The Nightmare of Phogoth, the Untamed is the Nightmare variant of the once feared Ogre, Phogoth. Like its predecessor, it dwells in The Summoning Pits. The Nightmare is found in the Nightmare Hunt: Fear mission, as well as a boss in the Altars of Sorrow.[1][2]

During Operation Ahamkara, the Guardian defeats the Nightmare of Phogoth again while hunting for Link, an unpartnered Ghost, to help with the Traveler's recovery.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

Phogoth is one of the three Nightmares you hunt during the campaign of Shadowkeep. Much like its once-living counterpart, the players will have to travel into the depths of the Hellmouth, all the way into the Summoning Pits, to face it. Once the players approach its phantasmal aura, the Nightmare will manifest and begin roaring and firing its Eye Blasts. Also like its living counterpart, its weak spot is not its eye, but the pulsating heart in its chest. It will also summon two Nightmare Acolytes. Once it is significantly wounded, it may decide to become phantasmal and invulnerable, summoning a Minor Knight, a small horde of Thralls with Nightmare auras, as well as two of either Nightmare Acolytes or Nightmare Thralls. Once the lesser Nightmares are dealt with, it will become vulnerable again, and the cycle will repeat. After reaching half health, all the Minor Thrall it summons will be equipped with powerful Solar Absorption Shields. Phogoth is not a complex boss overall, being a very large and slow target, and defeating it amounts to being capable of stopping enemies from overwhelming you.

The Nightmare of Phogoth will also appear as one of the Final Nightmares fought in the Altars of Sorrow, where it will mostly stand still in front of the Scarlet Keep, pelting the Guardians with its Eye Blast.
