Ir Airâm, Deathsinger, formerly known as Azavath, is a Hidden Swarm Deathsinger encountered in the Exotic Mission Choir of the Damned.

Biography[edit]

Inquisition of the Damned[edit]

"You will make a grand monarch, brother. Through me… In my name, writ across the expanse—Azavath, the Suffer Queen of an Ever-Rising Swarm."
— Azavath to Akrazul

Formerly known as Azavath, she conspired with her siblings, the Wizard Malkanth, the Deceiver and the crippled Knight Akrazul, the Severed, to usurp the Daughters of Crota and kill them at the behest of the Witch-Queen herself. In a ritual known as the Inquisition of Self, Malkanth would place Akrazul's essence within Azavath's body, severing the latter in the process. During the process, Azavath experienced visions of the Deathsong's origins and the legendary Choir that sang of it. The ritual failed however, and Akrazul's rage proved to be too strong to control, forcing the newly fused Wizard to engage in uncontrolled slaughter, including both Malkanth and the Pit champion, Zulmak.

Azavath was not dead however, as her essence had been saved by Savathûn. Preying upon her purpose to master the Deathsong, the Witch-Queen placed Azavath's essence into Malkanth's body and instructed her to rebuild the Choir; to which the newly made Deathsinger took the name Ir Airâm (styled after A'Airâm, the First Death and a legendary Deathsinger of Hive mythos). Her first act was to unmake their siblings' failed abomination with her newly composed Song.[1]

Shadowkeep[edit]

An ambitious Guardian followed a tip from Eris Morn on the empowerment of the Deathbringer through the death of a Deathsinger Wizard. Ir Airâm and her coven of Arias would be the targets of this attack thanks to Toland, the Shattered; all would be killed and their song stolen for the Guardian's own personal use.[2]

Personality[edit]

Azavath had devoted her life to perfecting her Deathsong and rebuilding the Choir. She was tender and loving, giving herself selflessly to halt the Swarm's ruin and gift her brother a chance at vengeance. She loved both of her siblings but shared a particularly strong bond with Akrazul.

Gameplay[edit]

As a Deathsinger, Ir Airâm is capable of chanting the Deathsong. While she is chanting, the player's screen will be obstructed by green mist, and a one minute timer will tick down. If it reaches zero, the player will succumb to the Deathsong. Breaking Ir Airâm's Void Absorption Shield stops her chant, which she will only restart when her shield recharges. Other than that, she fights like a normal Ultra Wizard, drowning the area in Clouds of Darkness and firing her Darkness Blasts at the player. As she loses health, she will move deeper in the area, and more and more enemies will arrive to help her, including Ogres.
