Outbreak Prime is an exotic pulse rifle introduced in Rise of Iron. It is acquired by completing the quest Channeling the Corruption, available only by completing a puzzle within the Wrath of the Machine Raid. It returned in Destiny 2 under a new name.
Acquisition
Overview
- "This is an advanced Golden Age technology tied to the death of some of the Light's greatest champions. It's currently being used as a tool of the Fallen to push the limits of bio-evolutionary realities. And you're kit-bashing it together with projectile-based war systems to make a handheld mechanism that delivers aggressive nano-mites?"
"That's one way to put it." - — Ghost and Shiro-4
Outbreak Prime is the fourth Exotic Pulse Rifle introduced into Destiny, the other three being Bad Juju, Red Death and No Time to Explain.
Intrinsic perk
- The Corruption Spreads: Enemies that take repeated hits from this weapon spawn SIVA nanites that attack other enemies. Fallen take extra damage.
Barrel upgrades
- Smooth Ballistics: Increased recoil. Boost to range.
- Accurized Ballistics: More range and impact. Increased recoil.
- Smart Drift Control: Predictable and controllable recoil. Penalty to range.
Special perk
- Outlaw: Precision kills with this weapon dramatically increase reload speed.
Stat modifiers
- Lightweight: This weapon grants +2 agility when held.
- Hand Loaded: This weapon is effective at an extended range.
- Fitted Stock: Increase weapon stability.
Exotic perk
- Virulence: Precision kills release a SIVA nanite swarm that attacks other enemies.
Destiny 1
Outbreak Prime has the potential to be a highly versatile primary weapon in that it is capable of both killing multiple enemies with relative ease and dealing serious damage against bosses. The intrinsic perk procs every fourth burst, which also increases the damage of the actual burst on top of the SIVA nanite swarm homing in on its target, which stacks with the extra damage that Fallen take. If constant fire is laid down on an important target, then they should go down in record time. The exotic perk, on the other hand, while not always proccing, activates consistently enough to have an effect on gameplay. The SIVA nanite swarm achieved from getting a precision kill should be able take out at least one other enemy. The fast fire rate and good stability, provided you have selected both Smart Drift Control and Fitted Stock, will make scoring headshots much easier. The questline is long, but completing it will earn you one of the most powerful and versatile primary weapons in the game.
Destiny 2
In Destiny 2, the weapon remains relatively the same except for a few changes, the major one being a name change to Outbreak Perfected. The intrinsic perk now spawns a SIVA swarm that increases the amount of damage the gun itself does to the afflicted target as well as damaging them. The catalyst also provides a boost to the damage that the nanites do and allows you to spawn more just by killing a target that’s already tainted by the nanites.
