Gone Fishin' is a Destiny 2 quest for Season of the Deep. It is available after completing the Step 5 of the Into the Depths quest.
Steps
Start
The holoprojector's speaker crackles back on after Sloane signs off. Drifter's voice comes in loud and clear.
"Hey, hero! Heard you brought back a little something extra from your dip in the drink. Now obviously it ain't gonna add anything to my machine… but I got a feeling it could be useful in other ways."
"Why don't you swing by the Tower and pay Hawthorne a visit? Something tells me she'll be pleased to see it."
- Notes
Drifter refers to the Salvaged Fishing Tackle recovered during the Operation Thunderbolt (Twilight) mission.
Step 1
Drifter has suggested you show Hawthorne the Fishing Tackle you recovered from the Arcology.
- Speak to Suraya Hawthorne in the Tower Bazaar.
"Outside the City, fishing can mean the difference between feast and famine." —Drifter
Hawthorne greets you with a raised eyebrow.
"A fishing tackle? Must be flotsam from the Arcology, a way for some nostalgic scientists to pass the time. I know I've got fond memories of casting my line alongside friends and family out in the EDZ."
She gives you a thoughtful look.
"I heard you Guardians are building an aquarium up on the H.E.L.M. A few fish would go a long way to livening it up. Maybe you could use this to catch them yourself."
A grin spreads across Hawthorne's face, as if her fond memories were rising to the surface.
"After you scrounge up some bait, of course."
- Notes
The Guardian recieves a Fishing Tackle and the access to the Fishing activity.
Step 2
Bait increases your chances of catching higher quality fish. You can see how much Bait you have by looking at the description of the Fishing Tackle in your inventory. You can still fish without Bait, but your catches will likely be of lower quality.
- Collect Bait by completing Salvage, Deep Dive, playlist activities, public events, patrols, or by collecting destination materials.
"If you want to catch a big fish, you're gonna need some bait." —Suraya Hawthorne
Step 3
A Fishing Pond lies somewhere near a body of water in the Outskirts of the EDZ. Look at your map for the exact location where you can cast your line.
Fishing Ponds only appear while public events are not active in the same location.
- Catch fish in the Outskirts of the EDZ.
"It's called the European Dead Zone, but there are times when the waters are teeming with life." —Suraya Hawthorne
Step 4
A Fishing Pond lies somewhere near a body of radiolarian fluid in The Cistern on Nessus. Look at your map for the exact location where you can cast your line.
Fishing Ponds only appear while public events are not active in the same location.
- Catch fish in The Cistern on Nessus.
"Personally, I wouldn't want to fish anything out of a pond of Vex milk. But I'm not a Guardian, now am I?" —Suraya Hawthorne
Step 5
A Fishing Pond lies somewhere near a body of water in the Miasma in Savathûn's throne world. Look at your map for the exact location where you can cast your line.
Fishing Ponds only appear while public events are not active in the same location.
- Catch fish in the Miasma in Savathûn's throne world.
"I don't even want to think about what kinds of fish the Hive had on their homeworld." —Suraya Hawthorne
Step 6
Caught fish can be released into the aquarium in the H.E.L.M. for rewards based on their quality.
- Release your caught fish at the aquarium in the H.E.L.M.
"Now those are some… interesting fish. They should really liven up that aquarium!" —Suraya Hawthorne
Step 7
Now that you've gotten your feet wet, it's time to check back in with Hawthorne.
- Return to Suraya Hawthorne in the Tower Bazaar.
"How was the fishing trip?" —Suraya Hawthorne
Hawthorne gives you a knowing look as you approach.
"So, are you… hooked?"
She laughs at her own joke until she catches sight of Louis staring her down.
"Anyway," she continues, "There's something nice about sitting still and waiting for a catch to come to you. It's like a metaphor for life."
"At least, that's what Devrim keeps telling me."
She smiles as she sends you on your way.
"Go fish, Guardian."
