"I bring a gift: the power to make all Eliksni our children! Reborn through extinction—risen as Scorn! Bow to Fikrul, Kell of Kells!"
— Fikrul

The Revenant Uprising was a major conflict that took place between the forces of the Last City in the form of the Vanguard, House of Light, and House of Spider, along with assistance from the House of Salvation against the forces of the Revenant Scorn under the command of Fikrul, the Fanatic after his acquisition of the Echo of Riis that allowed him to alter the polarity of the Ether within living Eliksni to corrupt them into a new breed of Scorn. Following his accumulation of a considerable army of Revenant Scorn, Fikrul launches an assault on Riis-Reborn with the purpose of corrupting further Eliksni to serve his cause. To ensure the salvation of her House, Eramis, Kell of Darkness sends out a distress signal to the Last City as she recognized the dire threat that Fikrul posed to the Eliksni.[1] Uniting against a common foe, the Vanguard and Eliksni of the Last City align together with Eramis and her House to rally against Fikrul to thwart his ambition of converting all Eliksni into Scorn and ascending to become the prophesied Kell of Kells.

Additional parties that were involved in this conflict include the Lucent Brood led by a Lightbearer Fireteam in pursuit of the Echo's power, the Mad Warden that monitors the dormant Prison of Elders, and the possessed House of Salvation defectors aboard Vesper Station under the command of the Corrupted Puppeteer.

Prelude[edit]

Fikrul, the Fanatic, following the Hunt for the Lost, was forced out of the Tangled Shore[2] and many of his Scorn fell under the control of the Witness and its Disciples.[3] Fikrul sought unification of the Scorn, but suffered after failing to recruit the Scorn under Hefnd's control,[4] and obtain one of Riven's eggs to perform a wish.[5]

Mithrax, after saving Osiris by distilling the relics of Nezarec into a tonic that reawakened him from his coma, was cursed by Nezarec and began to have sudden violent outbursts.[6] This left the House of Light weakened due to their leadership being compromised.[7]

Crow was promoted to Hunter Vanguard during the operation to defeat the Witness,[8] and began investigating the Scorn and hunting for Fikrul.[9]

The House of Salvation began to turn upon itself due to a lack of leadership after the Witness was defeated,[9] Xivu Arath went into hiding,[10] and Eramis prepared to leave Sol.[11]

When the Witness was defeated in the Pale Heart by the Coalition, the immense Light and Darkness coalesced into Echoes that sprang forth from the Pale Heart into Sol.[9] One of these Echoes, the Echo of Riis, fell into the possession of Fikrul who sought to become the Kell of Kells by reuniting the leaderless Scorn and turning living Eliksni into Revenant Scorn through the power of the Echo.[12]
