"What am I now to do? Become a mighty strong Knight? A wicked and tricky Wizard? I scoff at the linear ideas of the Taken King, of the worthless round and round circle games of the Witch Queen, and the stubborn zealotry of the God of War. We need no god. We need no gift from a god. We have the Deep. And from the Deep our queen carved us Soulfire. From this I shall use the Anointed's knowledge to forge a new age of the Hive. An age where the Light instead fears us. One bullet, and they are weak softskin once more."
— Enkara, the Painsmith

Enkara, the Painsmith is a young but extremely powerful Hive Acolyte who seeks to use Enkaar, the Anointed's Proto-Thorn to create a new age of Light-eater Hive.

Biography[edit]

A Lost Art[edit]

"It is so adorable how you softskins seem to think that now Light and Dark is no different to you, you can ignore your weaknesses. But you are Light creatures all the same."
— Enkara, the Painsmith

Enkara made his presence known once after the raiding of the Drifter's Derelict, where he would take the Proto-Thorn Soulfire Rifle he hid there. From there he began to experiment on it and find its secrets. Eventually he'd crack the weapon and go on to retool it into his own personal weapon he'd dub 'Solana'. From there he'd claim terrain within the Navigator's Rest to be forged into a weapons depot for him to begin forging Weapons of Sorrow en masse to begin arming the Hive with Lightbearer-killing weaponry.

Road of Sorrow[edit]

Once Kharyx, the Navigator's Lullaby was dealt with, Enkara would become the next biggest priority. The Drifter himself would oversee this operation alongside Zavala. A Fireteam of three would delve into the Road of Sorrow Dungeon to destroy Enkara's weapons factory and end the Painsmith for good. However, as the team ventured deeper into the Road of Sorrow, they would notice faint whispers of a familiar voice beyond Enkara's constant taunting. After every challenge, Enkara would seem to get more and more agitated and paranoid. This would build up until his defeat at the end of the Dungeon where he'd be pulled through a dark portal against his will.

All that'd remain of the young Acolyte would be that of a chunk of chitin chipped off of his head. The very chunk that obscured his other eyes. That and Nezarec, Final God of Pain's wicked laughter echoing throughout the factory.

Servant of Pain[edit]

"I am Enkara, the Painsmith. For every strike of my forge, agony is sent into the universe. And my god is pleased."
— Enkara, Acolyte of Nezarec

Enkara would eventually be spotted again aboard Essence, but this time corrupted by Dread energy and in a state of delirium. By the time he's tracked down and his Dread, Shadow Legion, and Hive reinforcements are destroyed, he escapes with a relic of Nezarec, that of what remained of Night Terror. Enkara would use this relic, along with remains of Nezarec's body, psionic energy gathered from husked out Shadow Legion Psions, and pieces of his own soul to attempt to resurrect the Final God of Pain.

Enkara would succeed in some manner as Nezarec would partially inhabit a Hive body, but he had to give his own life in order to awaken him. Nezarec would then flee, seeking the ability to gain strength from upcoming conflicts and rediscover his lost powers. Enkara's husked out body would be taken by Nezarec's acolytes for an as-of-now unknown purpose.

Personality and Traits[edit]

"Imagine my power once I am as ancient as our dear Taken King, or even just his children. I can bring your people running in fear to stop me simply by holding a weapon in my palm. What will I be able to do once I am truly mighty enough to earn reverence from my ancients?"
— Enkara, the Painsmith

Enkara is venomous and cocky. He sees himself better than all those around him due to how far he managed to get without needing to become a Knight or Wizard, along with his acquisition of the Proto-Thorn and production of Light-eater weaponry. He never truly takes a conflict seriously and often even turned his nose to Kharyx and her generals, preferring to go his own path. However Kharyx would allow this as while disobedient, his escapades often did benefit her brood. Enkara revels in pain even beyond just the religious fervor the Hive normally have in pursuit of satiating their Worms and getting closer to the Final Shape. He deliberately draws out pain and tortures his victims, savoring every scream he carves out of them.

Enkara, oddly given his venom toward them, seems fascinated by Human culture as he rarely speaks in Hive dialect, rather preferring to speak like a human would. He also uses Human terminology, models some of his weaponry after human models, and more. He states this is to mock humans using enemy weaponry such as the Ex Diris or Touch of Malice, but it's also implied he does it because he's genuinely fascinated with human technology and how it functions. He also regularly calls all Coalition members 'softskins', even if they happen to be Exo, who are metal, and Cabal, who have infamously rough and thick skin.
