Eido is an Eliksni Scribe of the House of Light and the adopted daughter of Mithrax, Kell of Light. Her namesake is Sjur Eido, an Awoken Paladin and the late Queen's Wrath.

Biography

Eido was found inside a ventilation shaft of a House of Devils skiff as Misraaks—then a Vandal—was clearing the battlefield alongside Sjur Eido and other Awoken. She was newly hatched, still covered in egg-molt. Misraaks freed her from the shaft and took her in.

Sometime later, the Guardian found a tattered note covered in Awoken script and took it to Petra Venj for decryption. From it, they learned about a rocket launcher hidden somewhere for a "daughter of Light" to find upon completing a set of trials, one of which would be "fighting alongside the chosen". The Awoken script and references to Light pointed at Mithrax being the author of these notes.

Mithrax pushed a young Eido to train as a Sacred Splicer, using the light through the Splicer gauntlet to break into the Vex Network. Yet she never found the same affiliation that her father did and eventually went to train to become a scribe under the tutelage of the Awoken Techeuns.

The Endless Night

During the Endless Night, Eido journeyed with her father and other Fallen refugees of House Light, to the newly founded Eliksni Quarter of the Last City. There—under the safety of the Traveler—Eido served as a Scribe of House Light, documenting its history as well as recounting the history of the Fallen to the Guardian as they explored the district.

Season of Plunder

During the Search for Nezarec's Relics, Eido took on a support role in the fight against Eramis, Kell of Darkness. Her expertise and interest in old technology and knowledge proved to be invaluable as she researched the artifacts of Nezarec that the Guardian plundered from the Old Crews. Additionally she tries to reason with Eramis, believing she isn't beyond convincing, and called for a "parley" (a traditional meeting among Eliksni, in which no weapons are to be used) with the Kell of Darkness to take place at a neutral spot. The transmission calling for this meeting was intercepted by the Guardian and Mithrax, who accompany Eido to the meeting. It is here that Eramis told Eido of her father's former pirate ways and the truth of the artifacts they were searching for, alienating Eido further from her father.

Despite the rupture in their relationship, Eido continued to assist her father and the Guardian in their search for the artifacts of Nezarec. While searching a Pirate Hideout teeming with Lucent Hive for the last artifact, Eido attempted to retrieve the artifact without using violence, in an attempt to show Eramis the futility of the path she was going down. Though Eido managed to grab the artifact, she left herself at the mercy of the Lucent Hive, and was only saved by the intervention of Eramis. Mithrax (accompanied by the Guardian) entered the room not long after, and (against the protests of Eido) began dueling the Shipstealer. Mithrax was able to best Eramis in combat, but refused to kill her, in a rejection of his violent past. Eramis took the opportunity and fled.

Season of the Seraph

At the end of the Battle of the War Gods, as Eramis (at the behest of the Witness and Xivu Arath) plans to use Rasputin's Warsat network to fire upon the Traveler, Eido is with her father in the Eliksni Quarter, watching the Traveler leave the Earth's orbit. Eramis' plans were ultimately foiled by Rasputin, who heroically sacrificed himself to stop the Warsats from firing.

Lightfall

During the Invasion of Earth, Eido's father fought alongside Coalition forces to rescue civilians taken prisoner by the Shadow Legion. While planning a rescue operation in The Tunnels in the EDZ, Eramis contacted Mithrax out of the blue to warn him of the dangers inside the Shadow Legion base. Despite distrusting Eramis, Mithrax heeded her warning, urging caution as the mission commenced. As the Guardian fought and defeated Vereziia, Reverent of the Witness, Mithrax and Amanda Holliday focused on evacuating the captured prisoners from the cave system. As Amanda Holliday remained behind to give the prisoners more time to escape, an explosion wrecked the caverns, killing Amanda Holliday. Mithrax was only saved by the intervention of Eramis, who used her Stasis powers to block the explosion. Eramis repeated her vague warning to Mithrax before disappearing yet again. This event (combined with Eramis previously saving her life, and the reluctance that Eramis had begun to show in serving the Witness) seemingly convinced Eido that there was still good in Eramis.

Festival of the Lost

Eido, with the help of the Ghosts Glint and Immaru, researched the Headless Ones during the Festival of the Lost, against the backdrop of the Clash of the Hive Gods. She plays a key role in Tales of the Forgotten - Vol. 3, and has even been theorized to be the in-universe author of the lorebook, writing under the penname "Ithaaks".

The Final Shape

At some point before or after the Guardian entered the Pale Heart of the Traveler, Eido went on an interplanetary journey to compile as much information as she could on the history of the Witness, with the goal of trying to understand the being and its motives behind the Final Shape. The information she gathered (along with her annotations, which are addressed to the Guardian) are collected in Entelechy.

Sometime after the defeat of the Witness, a conversation between Eido and the Spider was intercepted by the Hidden. In it, the syndicate leader chastised Eido for continuing to search for Eramis and attempting to learn more about the Kell of Darkness' whereabouts. The Spider initially threatened to report Eido's activities to the Vanguard, but an indecipherable nonverbal communication coming from the Scribe caused the Spider to back down.

Personality and Traits

In a similar vein to her father, Eido appears hopeful of a new and better future for the Eliksni, showing disapproval at the current behavior of the Fallen houses. Further, Eido wishes to make peace between the Eliksni and Humanity, believing that they can coexist under the Traveler in the Last City. Unfortunately she is aware that such ideas are not popular, understanding that some scars and fears take time to recover from. As a scribe, Eido values her people's history and traditions, carefully preserving them and hoping future generations will learn from these lessons. Eido begins to show a measure of doubt after a mob, motivated by fear, ransack her people's camp in the Last City, wondering if it was right to bring their people here. Her resolve, nonetheless, remains strong as she understands the attack was done out of fear rather than malice. As such, she refuses to retaliate in turn.

As the daughter of Mithrax, Eido respects and cares deeply for her father, believing in his vision and leadership which could lead their people into a better tomorrow. Likewise, Mithrax values her advice and wisdom. He even remarks that she is "too wise for her own good". Eido does have trouble understanding complex expressions of human phrases and figures of speech, often taking them too literally.

During the Season of Plunder, Eido is shown to be a deeply intelligent and adventurous person albeit a bit shy and reserved in her tactics. Unlike the Drifter, Eido prefers to avoid direct confrontation and instead suggests tactical retreats and avoidance of enemies. She can be naïve but willing to learn and is shown to be becoming more aggressive and forward during the events of the season. Most notably, Eido is rather idealistic in wanting to better the lives of her people and reclaiming lost relics for her research. As a result, she disapproves of the Spider's more "entrepreneurial" nature as he tries to profit from their mission. Being the scribe to the House of Light, Eido takes great delight in learning all she can, whether it be something from her House's allies or that of her people and would be all too happy to inform others of her people's history. Eido has also shown that the Eliksni should have faith in the Light rather than in the Traveler itself, given it's history of abandoning civilizations and recently giving the Lucent Brood the powers of Lightbearers. At the same time, she heavily disproves of secrecy, wishing to learn all aspects of history, even if the truth is something she may not understand.

Later on, Mithrax would state that while Eido is curious and brave, she is ignorant of the more brutal aspects of the world, including the violence the Eliksni have committed. Her curiosity would be showcased in her efforts to learn the truth of her father's past, claiming it necessary to record the House of Light's past, even if it is against her father's wishes. This also shows Eido has a rebellious side, willing to defy or go around her father's back if it means to learn the truth and help the Guardian's efforts. Ultimately, though Eido may have had the best of intentions, her desire for the truth regarding her father's past and her belief that Eramis would see reason, drives a wedge in her relationship with Mithrax. Hearing the truth of her father's more brutal pirate past, and that he had actually known what the relics were, deeply wounded her. Though she would maintain her commitment to the House of Light and its alliance with the Guardians, she became more curt and angry in her tone, especially towards her father.

Trivia

• Ithaaks, the stated author of Tales of the Forgotten — Vol. 3, has been theorized to be the pen name of Eido. Evidence for this theory includes:
  • Chapter 12 and Chapter 14 of Tales of the Forgotten - Vol 3 consist of excerpts from short stories written by Eido, titled "The Forlorn Heart" and "The Tragical Scribe" respectively. A later chapter confirms her authorship of "The Tragical Scribe".
  • After showing her stories to Mithrax, he tells her of his concerns that her short stories could hurt her reputation as a Scribe, as they may be conflated with her historical accounts by those in the future.
  • One of her stated goals is to write scary stories.
