"An ancient weapon, battered and worn - but still fires true. Perhaps it's been waiting for you."
— In-game description

The Khvostov 7G-02 is an ancient basic Auto Rifle found in The Breach in the Cosmodrome. It is the first weapon a Guardian acquires, during the very first mission/tutorial A Guardian Rises. [1] Its only perk is Kinetic damage. It reprises its role as the first weapon acquired for new Guardians in the Shadowkeep expansion for Destiny 2.[2] It eventually became a Legendary weapon in The Final Shape

LoreEdit

"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

The Final ShapeEdit

"YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU."

Day 1.

The world is dead, but there's peace in the mortuary silence. I'm born into this dead world, where dandelions grow up through layers of ash blanketing miles of desolate road.

Day 673.

There is a stretch of land, a canyon through which water once flowed. A canal cut into the earth, bristling with derelict ships and countless dead. Flowers bloom in many desiccated carcasses. Each component of this world's decomposition has a purpose: water flows, cities decay, flowers bloom. Yet still I search for mine.

Day 1,857.

Oceans are vast, lonely expanses. Though life flourishes in the depths, it's not life that I'm looking for. I thrive on death—search for death. Perhaps my purpose lies below the water, but it's dark, and lonely, and I… I don't want to look there yet. Not when there's so much more horizon.

Day 6,231.

I was careless, and someone shot me from all the way across a field. The bullet only chipped my shell, but it spun me around and left me shaken. I don't know who they were or even why I was targeted. I played dead, and no one came for me. I laid in the tall grass for nine days. It rained on the fifth. I acquainted myself with the ants. They are survivors.

Day 36,725.

This world is dead, but life is threatening a return. I don't know when I'll ever fulfill my purpose, but I know what I am. I'm a ghost haunting the grave of humanity. A Ghost with a calling.

TriviaEdit

  • It was formerly possible to not pick up the weapon, and complete mission with melee kills only. This has since been patched and the Khvostov will appear in the player's hands automatically.
  • The glass on the sight is cracked and chipped, and the sight the exotic version of this weapons comes with has the same imperfections, though there is an option to upgrade it to a newer scope at the cost of some range and impact.
  • Multiple parts of this weapon bear a strong resemblance to, and the receiver is a direct copy (with minor modifications) of, the AR-15 platform of rifles and its military counterparts the Colt M4 carbine and M16 rifle, which gives the impression of extreme age.
  • The name Khvostov (Хвостов, from khvost (хвост) meaning tail) is a Russian masculine surname. The name of the rifle could also be derived from the word Khvostovik (Хвостовик) instead, which commonly translates to "shank."
  • The designation 7G-02 is similar to Russian GRAU designations used for military equipment, but not properly formatted as the prefix 7G refers to grenades, and there is no dash or zero before single-digit numbers in the suffix of a proper designation. A more appropriate designation would be 6P2, since 6P is the suffix used by automatic weapons such as the AK-12, which is designated 6P70.
