"They say Hand Cannons have long been used for personal defense, even before the days of the City. Nothin' defensive about'em. When a Cannon speaks, people listen."
Cayde-6

Hand Cannons are a type of heavy pistol used in Destiny.[1] They reward calm technique and sharp shooting.[2] In addition, their abnormally high impact provides them unparalleled stopping power, making them capable of staggering or killing most low-level enemies in two shots.

Trivia

  • Hand cannons are a callback to the Old West—weapons for a new frontier.[3] which are the hard-hitting pistols thought of in the Old West.
  • Many hand cannons have their barrels positioned on the lower part of their cylinder, reminiscent of revolvers like the Chiappa Rhino. Despite this, the hammer is positioned as if it were on a more traditional revolver where the barrel is on the top of the cylinder.
