Objective:

Investigate the appearance of anomalous objects in the EDZ and a Vex network node.

Reward(s):

The Variable is an Exotic Quest released in Season of Defiance, marking the start of the "NODE.OVRD.AVALON" Exotic Mission. Completion of the quest awards players with the exotic Glaive Vexcalibur with Deepsight resonance, making it possible to craft this weapon with different intrinsic traits that can be later unlocked from uncovering hidden chests in the exotic mission.

Steps

Step 1

Investigate the Gulch in the EDZ where Guardians have reported anomalous objects.

  • Digital trace investigated

The [[War Table reported that strange digital traces were found somewhere in the EDZ.

"upted // variable corrupted //variable corrupted // variable corrupted // variable corrupted // variable corrupted // variable corr"

Step 2

Follow the digital traces.[1]

  • Mystery solved

Each trace echoes part of an access code…

"~.. //o__u r..~ec—.-ei.vin/g.//m;eA. r/'.__e /y/_.~"[2]

Step 3

Explore the Vex network node in the EDZ and discover its secrets.

  • //node.ovrd.AVALON// completed

//node.ovrd.AVALON// can be launched from the EDZ in the Destinations tab of the Director.

"A Vex network node has been overwritten with a single word: AVALON."

Step 4

Bring the object from the Vex network to the War Table for analysis.

  • War Table visited

The digitized object from within the Vex network requires further analysis.

"An object from within the Vex network. An access key? Or… something more?"

Footnotes

  1. ^ Players must interact with all the Vex nodes in the Gulch within a limited timespan to acquire an access code. Each node reveals a different part of the code: 53-43-52-49-42-45 (Hexadecimal for SCRIBE). Once all nodes are triggered, a simulated cavewall deactivates, revealing a friendly Harpy that will mark the start of the Exotic Mission.
  2. ^ Translates to "Are you receiving me?"
