The Variable is an Exotic Quest released in Season of Defiance, marking the start of the "NODE.OVRD.AVALON" Exotic Mission. Completion of the quest awards players with the exotic Glaive Vexcalibur with Deepsight resonance, making it possible to craft this weapon with different intrinsic traits that can be later unlocked from uncovering hidden chests in the exotic mission.

Step 1[edit]

Investigate the Gulch in the EDZ where Guardians have reported anomalous objects.

Digital trace investigated

The War Table reported that strange digital traces were found somewhere in the EDZ.

Explore the Vex network node in the EDZ and discover its secrets.

As you approached the War Table, the lights in the H.E.L.M. flicker ominously.

You place the object claimed from the AVALON network node on the table.

Suddenly, a cyclone of digitized information swirls from the War Table dataports. "TRANSFER DETECTED" flashes on the viewscreen as a surge of data flows over the object, imbuing it with strange power.

In a moment, it is over, and a gleaming Glaive awaits you on the table. It seems as though Vanguard and Vex technology combined to create... something altogether new.

The lights in the H.E.L.M. flicker once more... perhaps in smug satisfaction.
