Transcript

{Cutscene}

The screen fades in to show the Traveler with the Traveler Cage attached to it, with many Red Legion ships around it.

  • Ikora Rey: When the Red Legion attacked, it almost cost us everything. It took a miracle to save us...

There is a bright flash of light, revealing the awakened Traveler, with the Red Legion gone.

  • Ikora: ... The awakening of the Traveler.

The screen pans up, showing a sky full of stars.

  • Ikora: This is our new beginning. The maps are blank. The rules are gone.

The screen zooms out and some of the stars merge together to show The Almighty in front of the Sun.

  • Ikora: All we know is we must become more than what we were. This small corner of the cosmos is the only place that is forever ours. And the universe watches us with envious eyes.

The camera continues to zoom out showing Mercury, partly destroyed by The Almighty.

  • Ikora: We've proven we can fight threats from beyond the stars. But now there are things stirring beneath our feet... provoked by the Traveller's light.

The screen flashes, and an eye symbol expands outwards.

  • Ikora: Our war... is just beginning.

{Vex Cutscene}

A group of six guardians is seen approaching a group of Vex. One signals to go around a pillar and they engage with an arc grenade. The entire group then rushes in and a Warlock jumps into the air as time freezes. A portal opens and Osiris walks through with Sagira

  • Sagira: Ominous rocks, killer robots, people in mortal danger. Seriously - aren't you tired of this?

Osiris begins to walk down some stairs and into the frozen battle.

  • Osiris: Fatigue is a distraction from our purpose. As are complaints.
  • Sagira: Oh, I haven't begun to complain yet.

Sagira floats into a frozen laser beam shot by the Vex.

  • Sagira: OUCH! Ooh! Now I'm complaining.
  • Osiris: Focus, Sagira.

Sagira tilts a Minotaur Torch Hammer into the air, away from its target.

  • Sagira: Reach for the sky, big guy.

Osiris takes out a device consisting of three cubes with symbols on them, and begins twisting them.

  • Osiris: [Swears in another language]
  • Sagira: Need help? Again?
  • Osiris: I've got it, thank you.

Sagira moves over to a Goblin and tilts its Slap Rifle into the air as Osiris opens a triangular portal. Osiris stares intently into the portal.

  • Sagira: Well? Osiris!?

Osiris closes the portal and starts quickly walking back through the battle, which is still frozen.

  • Sagira: W-What did you see? Slow down.

Sagira notifies that the Minotaur has moved back to its original position.

  • Sagira: Wait. I thought I... Oh sh-

All the Vex immediate unfreeze and start shooting at Osiris and Sagira, despite the team of guardians still being frozen. Osiris produces a weapon and begins to shoot the Vex.

  • Sagira: GO!!! To your left! Two o'clock! Medium range! You're welcome!

Osiris jumps on a Minotaur onto a platform where he begins firing at the Vex, before bringing the sword down into the ground. He runs behind a block of cover, still shooting.

  • Sagira: You know, I cant help but notice that even with all of reality to explore... you keep picking the places where they shoot at us.
  • Osiris: We can't stay here.... If the Vex succeed, it's the end of everything.

The camera switches to a red lens looking down at Osiris, a bright light where Sagira is.

  • Osiris: Sagira, it can see your Light. You have to go.

Osiris opens a portal with the cube device.

  • Sagira: Nope, not leaving you. Without me, there is no coming back.
  • Osiris: If I don't stop the Vex, there won't be anything to come back to. I'm doing this for the both of us.
  • Sagira: -don't you even- OSIRIS!

Osiris throws Sagira through the portal and she gets shot by a Goblin. The camera changes to a red lens view again, focusing on Osiris. The camera switches again to show the portal closing and Sagira laying still, partly covered by sand and her eye goes black. The view pans to a large triangular portal, similar to the one made by Osiris. There is a bright flash, and the destiny 2 symbol can be seen above part of the sun. The screen fades to black.

{Tower Cutscene}

The camera is looking upwards at the Traveler from the Tower. It pans down to show Ikora, reading. Our guardian approaches with our Ghost.

  • Ikora: Guardian. Thank you for coming. There's been a "development" on Mercury. Strange reports from the cultists clinging to what's left of the planet. Normally, I'd ignore their conspiracy theories. But one of my Hidden brought me... this.

Ikora steps aside to show Sagira.

  • Ghost: A dead Ghost?
  • Ikora: She's not dead. Her name is Sagira. I've known her for a very long time... and her guardian... Osiris.
  • Ghost: THE Osiris? The most powerful guardian ever? The hero of Six Fronts? The Zavala before Zavala?
  • Ikora: Zavala wouldn't like to hear you call him that. Most Guardians won't even speak Osiris's name. He was the only Vanguard Commander ever exiled from the City... and the man who taught me what it means to be a Warlock. We found Sagira on Mercury - and at the same time, Vex activity surged exponentially.
  • Ghost: And you think Osiris might be involved.
  • Ikora: I need to know what happened. Even if the Vanguard wants to forget him. When I lost my light, I didn't have anything else. I was... empty. Then you came to Io, and you helped me find my way back. I need that friend again, Guardian. Go to Mercury - take Sagira with you. The followers of Osiris, the few who remain, might know what her presence means. And for now, let's keep this between us. I'd hate to have to throw you off this wall.
  • Ghost: Umm... That was a joke, right?
  • Ikora: That... was a joke.

  • Ikora: The Traveler transformed Mercury into a garden world. It was a paradise... until the Vex came. The Vex REPLACED the planet's core with their own machines. We call it the "Infinite Forest". An ever-expanding labyrinth of realities. No two paths are ever the same. No one has ever escaped. It was Osiris's... obsession.

{Gameplay}

The Guardian's ship is seen flying across Mercury, towards the Sun.

  • Brother Vance: Welcome to Mercury, Guardian. The signs told me you would come.
  • Ghost: What a coincidence. We followed the signs here, too. And by signs, I mean facts.
  • Vance: That, too, is a sign. I am Brother Vance of the Followers of Osiris, keeper of The Lighthouse, oracle of the Lost Prophecies.

The guardian is dropped down onto Mercury.

  • Ikora: There is a Vex gateway near your location. Osiris spent years studying it. He was convinced it was the door to the Infinite Forest. If it is still possible to find Osiris, we need to open that door.
  • Vance: Ikora Rey! Osiris's greatest student!
  • Ikora: Brother Vance. Osiris's greatest... fan.

The Guardian then moves forward through a Vex gate, where they fight multiple groups of Vex, continuing onwards. They then jump on a launch pad to The Lighthouse.

  • Vance: I'm so glad Osiris has brought you to me, his most faithful servant.
  • Ikora: Considering how you revere a man who questions everything, I am surprised how well faith serves you.
  • Vance: The Vex are at my door. Osiris has not returned. Faith is all I have left.
  • Ghost: The gateway to the Infinite Forest. A place from which no one has ever returned. Not even Osiris.

The Guardian goes around to the gate, fighting Vex as they go, including a large Hydra.

  • Ghost: Here it is. Well... I'm ready if you are.

The Guardian walks up to the portal, only to be blocked by a forcefield.

  • Ghost: We can't get through. If Osiris's Ghost were awake, then maybe she could help.
  • Vance: Osiris preserve us! YOU have his ghost?! Sagira? Please - please - bring her to me!

A large amount of descendant Vex appear behind the Guardian. The Guardian swiftly defeats the first group.

  • Ghost: Descendants... We haven't seen these Vex since the Vault of Glass.

The Guardian continues towards The Lighthouse, destroying many groups of Vex before seeing The Lighthouse blocked by a Vex module.

  • Ghost: There! Take out the module.

The Guardian destroys the module blocking entrance to the Lighthouse.

  • Ghost: Vex from different timelines are converging on Mercury. That's bad.

The Guardian enters The Lighthouse.

  • Ghost: This is easier to get to than their old place, that's for sure.
  • Vance: Thank you. I don't know what I would have done of Osiris hadn't sent you to me. In return, the Followers of Osiris can help you revive his Ghost. We have a hidden temple on Earth. Take Sagira to these coordinates. I will notify the Followers that you are coming. Now that The Lighthouse is safe, we can prepare for Osiris's return. All of the lost prophecies are coming to pass! I'm finally going to meet Osiris!
