Transcript
- Sagira: Osiris saw something in the Infinite Forest— and it terrified him. NOTHING terrifies him. We need to find him
- Ikora: Osiris could be anywhere. Put in the wrong coordinates and you'll never find your way out.
- Sagira: I know I can do it. Osiris is in there protecting the rest of us from the Vex. He needs us. He needs ME. And we're going to find him.
The Guardian enters the gateway to the Infinite Forest on Mercury.
- Sagira: Osiris has adapted some of the technology of the Forest for his own purposes. We're going to run into his Reflections. They're copies -- of himself. Made so he can explore multiple pathways at once. And yes, I am aware that it makes Osiris sound like an egomaniac. But don't worry. He is.
Sagira sounds pleased with this. The Guardian comes across a Vex platform which begins to glow, breaking a construct shield. Once the construct is destroyed, a beam of light appears.
- Sagira: Osiris has to be here somewhere.
A Reflection of Osiris appears, pulsating yellow light.
- Osiris' Reflection: Sagira! You shouldn't be here. And you brought someone new with you.
- Sagira: Who? Oh, him/her? Get this-- she's a friend of Ikora's.
- Osiris: Hrmph
A path appears for the Guardian. There are many Reflections of Osiris here; splitting apart, speaking to one another.
- Osiris' Reflection: Send word: Sagira has returned.
Many of the Reflections shudder and run, vanishing into thin air. Still the Guardian can hear Osiris' voice.
- Osiris sent you away for your own safety. Your presence here puts everything at risk.
- Sagira: Well guess what? He needs me.
- Oriris' Reflection: New timelines are expanding. We must create Reflections to explore them. It's almost too late.
The Guardian continues to race along the curved pathways, deeper into the Forest.
- Sagira: What do they mean, "too late"? Something must have gone wrong. Where's the real Osiris?
They approach a circle of Reflections.
- Osiris' Reflection: You cannot go to him, Sagira.
- Sagira: WHAT? What did he find? What's so bad that it could scare Osiris?
- Osiris' Reflection: Behold-- The Infinite Forest! A planet-sized prediction engine, simulating trillions of realities in parallel, all geared toward a single Vex purpose.
New paths and platforms appear before the Guardian, sprawling across the open space. The Guardian begins on the path to be met by Vex forces.
- Sagira: Vex are simulating reality here, brute-forcing the future. And before you ask: everything in here IS real enough to kill you.
The Guardian pushes through, opening new gates that create paths that weren't there before.
- Sagira: Sometimes the Forest blocks a path. Eliminate the Daemon controlling the local simulation, and the door should open.
After fighting through several local simulations, the Guardian again approaches a Vex gateway.
- Osiris' Reflection: First, I will show you where it all began.
The Guardian passes through the gateway and into an unknown area.
- Osiris' Reflection: Mercury, untold centuries ago, before the Vex arrived. Here the Vex planted a seed that became the Infinite Forest-- and its Mind, Panoptes. Panoptes has a single purpose-- to reshape reality for the Vex... and only the Vex. All this started with a single Vex. Will it end with the arrival of a single Guardian?
As the Reflection speaks, explosions in the distance bloom into Vex structures. The Reflection leads the way, in a sense, to the next small portal where the Guardian finds themselves in a hallway.
- Sagira: Now I see why he's made so many new Reflections.
- Osiris' Reflection: Yes. We've tried, and failed, to prevent this outcome. Now only our best efforts only slow it. But you must see for yourself. Tell me Guardian. Where you there when the Traveler woke? A living Traveler changes everything. For good and bad. Now many things have been set in motion. Osiris wrote the lost prophecies to warn other Guardians, and they sent him away. But you cannot exile the future.
While the Reflection speaks, several more local simulations open for the Guardian to traverse.
- Osiris' Reflection: We must find and stop Panoptes, but none of us have discovered a timeline where we succeed. This is what it looks like when we fail. This is the future the Vex want.
The Guardian passes through another hall and into a gateway that takes them to a dark place in ruins.
- Sagira: The Lighthouse! ... This is what Osiris saw.
- Osiris' Reflections: Neither Light nor Darkness exists anymore. The sun's warmth is gone. All life... lost. But that was before you. You are the key. You can stop this. Every timeline we've tracked leads to here. We must destroy Panoptes to prevent this dark future. Panoptes! He's found us!
The area has become a no respawn zone and in the gaping whole where the Lighthouse wall once stood, comes a massive Vex Hydra with long arms.
- Osiris' Reflection: Go! You're more important than any of us now!
A large amount of enemies quickly overruns the area, beyond what the Guardian is capable of defeating alone.
- Sagira: We have to go.
The Guardian tries to escape, ending up back in one of the long triangular hallways with the Reflection of Osiris' last words repeating.
- Osiris' Reflection: But that was before you. You are the key. You can stop this. Every timeline we've tracked leads to here. We must destroy Panoptes to prevent this dark future.
- Sagira: Ikora! You there?
- Ikora: Sagira? You just left... where's Osiris?
- Sagira: In trouble. We all are. I'll explain everything on our way back to the City.
