"What you fail to understand, Iron Lord, is that, unlike you and your misbegotten ilk, I'm not afraid to take power and transcend into greatness. Power that turns death into eternal life. Death forever in service to one with a will worthy of greatness, and a worthy soul willing to provide power! Don't you see? It's all cyclical. (...) Strike me down, and soon, you shall see, that I will return... I. Am. Eternal."
— Ozymandias to Saladin Forge

Ozymandias is a former Warlord that ruled over the Transylvanian Wildlands during the Dark Age. A cruel Warlock obsessed with the prospect of power, his tyrannical reign would find him in possession of dark secrets stolen from the Hive and even guidance from the wayward Wizard, Cadavru, as well as apocrypha scried from the Acolytes of Nezarec, eventually granting him the powers of Necromancy and torment, spiraling him further into insanity and cruelty as his experiments drove him further into depravity, creating what would one day be known as the Headless Ones. His reign would end, however, at the hands of the Iron Lords, and would be struck down by Saladin Forge, who would behead him with his Axe, but not before promising that he would one day return to menace the world once more when "the skies darken with ecliptic light".

Years, if not centuries, later, the mad Necromancer's Headless Ones would begin to harness the esoteric energies released by the Witness' defeat, channeling them into a ritual that sought to return the former Necromancer to life, eventually taking the form of a being similar to a Tormentor and would begin to gather an army from slain Fallen and Guardians. Before he could menace the world once more, however, an inquisitive Fireteam led on by Glint would encounter the Necromancer and eliminate him once more.
