A Key Awaits is an interlude consisting entirely of a cinematic cutscene involving fireteam bringing Mirror Void, the head of Zeteon, Redemptive Mind in exchange for a key that will gain them entrance to the Black Garden.

Transcript[edit]

The Fireteam arrives on Mirror's ship and enters the Throne Room, Ghosts (for the Risen) in tow. Mirror sits at his throne, arguing with his Brother who Ir Noshti advises is Omega Void

  • Mirror Void: They are Alive.

Omega turns to see them.

  • Mirror Void: And they still have their balls.

The team approaches and stands at the bottom of the throne's steps.

  • Omega Void: (Coldly) There is no shame in running away, Guardians. Apart from the cowardice and failure of it, it's an excellent strategy.
  • ???: [Varying response]
  • Mirror Void: (Confidently of the Party) Was no Gate Lord slain, brother?
  • A Ghost: (proudly) Oh, we slayed a Gate Lord.
  • ???: [Varying response]

The Ghost warps in the head of Zeteon, Redemptive Mind clattering to the floor with a loud crash. The Knightmare Guards flex their weapons in anticipation of defending their King in suspicion, while Mirro and his brother lean forward, surprised.

  • ???: We need to find the Black Garden.
  • Omega Void: (chuckles condescendingly) They don't even know where it is.
  • Mirror Void: Let us tell them. Search the Gate Lord for that which gains them entrance.

Omega Void angrily turns toward Mirror Void.

  • Omega Void: Why? If you wish them certain death, just kill them here. I could do it!
  • Mirror Void: (looks at him disdainfully) Often when we guess at others' motives, we reveal only our own.
  • Omega Void: My motive is unchanged, submit everything beneath the heel of the Voids. And to aid your vision because it bears fruit unlike Classis who is as much a dissapointment and Necro, though atleast Classic accomplished something, Necro lost his war game with. Worse yet a usurper took control of his undead.
  • Mirror Void: (Holds up a hand), Then please... take what is required.

Omega looks downward, defeated, then stands and walks toward the Gate Lord's head. Standing over it, he unsheathes his knife, and roughly thrusts it into the top of the mechanical mass. One of the Knightmare adjusts his grip on his Laser Halberd. Moments later, he pulls the eye from Zeteon's head. The light in the eye quickly goes out, and the brother grins smugly.

  • Omega Void: (Smugly) Dead... unfortunately.

He turns and shows Mirror.

  • Omega Void: A wasted journey, I'm afraid.
  • Mirror Void: Perhaps... but I think these ones are resourceful. We gift it... in sympathy for the Gardener.

Omega's eyes widen in surprise before he quickly composes himself. He then turns toward the team.

  • Omega Void: Aloria. Eighty-six North, Forty-two East. Island of Darkness, Islands of the Ancients.

He quickly tosses the dead eye towards the first member, who catches it. Mirror Void stands from his throne.

  • Mirror Void: I have shown you benevolence, fireteam. Should I ever need an ally in the future, I will call on you and expect you to answer.

Omega Void dispels his knife, and the Knightmare Guards finally stand at rest on either side of Mirror Void.

  • Omega Void: (Hostile attitude) He's saying you owe us, Guardians.
  • ???: [Varying response]

The team turns and walks toward the exit.

  • Omega Void: Good luck! (Coldly mutters) ...with the Sol Divisive Kraken.
