Apophos, the Darkened Gardener is an ancient Vex Hydra developed by the Sol Divisive to tend the Black Garden. When the Vex discovered The Witness and its powers, Apophos would be among the first of the Sol Divisive to "worship" it and attempt to practice its powers. Sometime between Beyond Light and Lightfall, the Witness would transport the Vex Mind to Mercury and order it to seize control over the Infinite Forest and develop simulations with dark variables such as Tormentors and Taken. Apophos would serve as the main antagonist of the Season of Revelation.

Trivia

• Apophos appears to be one vowel off from Apep, or rather the Greek pronunciation of it, from Egyptian Mythology. Apophis was a massive snake that sought to consume the sun and, as such, was believed to have done battle against Ra every time he set "into the underworld".
• Apophos is the third Vex Hydra observed to have humanoid arms, the first being Panoptes, Infinite Mind, and the second being Quria, Blade Transform.
