Chieftains are the commanding Scorn unit. They are capable of utilizing a series of elemental totems with varying effects.

Overview

Chieftains stand well over most of their Scorn brethren, only being shorter than the gargantuan Abominations, and command them from the backlines. With their vast arsenal comprised of five weapons for all ranges and damage types, as well as the possibility of having shields for all three Light elements, with an accompaning totem, they are one of the most versatile enemy types Guardians can face.

The biggest danger presented by Chieftains comes from their Ether Totems. The Solar Ether Torch totem used by the Chieftains acts as a flame turret which spins streams of fire which can burn away at their targets. The Void Ether Shield totem which can project shield rays onto nearby allies, including themselves, making them immune to damage.[1] Finally, the Arc Ether Tether totems chains Guardians to it, slowing them, pulling them closer, and dazzling them, in an attempt to allow other Scorn units to close the distance and kill their target. A Chieftain's totem is always connected to their shield, but if they are left unshielded, it can be identified by their helmet designs, that can be seen even in Minors.

A Chieftain's Absorption Shield determines their totem, but does not limit their weapon choice, meaning that a Solar shielded Chieftain can still be encountered with the Arc element Mine Launcher, for example. Chieftains tend to keep to the backlines and deal suppressive fire and totems from there. Though their melee attacks are not weak, they do not have dedicated melee weapons (unlike for example, the Fallen Captains) and will thus not be very effective at hand to hand combat. They are also not as agile as the other factions' shielded enemies, as they lack any special movement ability, other than quick reflexes occasionally allowing them to dodge attacks.

Trivia

  • Due to their position in the Scorn hierarchy, Chieftains seem to act as the Scorn equivalent to Fallen Captains under the noble Houses.
