Wardens are more advanced Dread units created from stronger-willed Fallen, developed as Skira refined her craft. Capable of channeling Void energy through their built-in pyramid tech, these units serve as a hybrid offensive and defensive support unit.
Gameplay
Unlike a standard Captain, these units behave much more like a Berserker—especially with their new ordnance—maintaining a good distance to hose their opponents with a burst from their Polyphasic Repeater. The Warden is extremely durable to damage, as their bodies are coated head-to-toe in pyramid-material armor, shrugging off even some of the most devastating of attacks. The Warden is also considerably maneuverable, capable of moving on a dime from left to right with ease and can pull off a Resonant Warp to teleport to another position. Unlike Berserkers' shieldbreaker blast, however, the Warden will toggle their weapon's firing mode and unleash an Entropic Pulverization blast, which will deal considerable Void damage and knock their adversary back; if any hostile continue to be aggressively melee-focused, however, the Warden can also deliver a Disorienting Punch while waiting for the Entropic Pulverization blast to cool down. When the Warden expects heavy assault or is starting to take some serious punishment, they can activate a barrier of Void energy to protect themselves from the incoming onslaught.
Although the Warden is a considerable opponent, they fare better in the presence of other Dread units, as they mainly use their abilities to aid their allies. When an adversary is entrenched in a position or behind a barrier, the Warden will fire off a Gravity Mine to deal slight damage to their adversaries, but mainly pull them out of that entrenched position. Additionally, the Warden will also channel Void energy throughout their armor to unleash a pulse that will coat all Dread or other allied units in a durable Void Overshield. When also comfortable in the presence of other Dread units, the Warden will enter an offensive stance, where they will remain emplaced and fire a continuous hailstorm of Void bolts at their adversaries unless the targets are out of sight for a prolonged period, takes sheer damage or an enemy is within melee range. If a Warden is left alone for a prolonged period and has taken damage at any point, they can activate their armor to start temporarily healing any wounds they've taken; this state will only heal the Warden to an extent.
