The Zorpalods are a race of enemies introduced in Episode: Plague.

History

Origins

In the ancient past, the people who would eventually become the Zorpalods were scattered across many nations, including the two greatest of Sluggeria: Pukshitia and Parsoland[1]. A devastating war between these nations led to the destruction of countless cities and the downfall of many great nations, including Balihou, which was decimated by the deadly fomonuclear weapons developed unwittingly during the age of the Light from Beyond by a Sluggerian scientist named Jhaun Bungie.

In the aftermath, a young survivor named Zorpal discovered a new, overwhelming power he called "The way of the Slugger." Using this strength, Zorpal forced a ceasefire. It was at Zorpengrad, former capital of Balihou, where the two sides signed a peace treaty which formally established the Union of Sluggerian States. He led Sluggeria through rebuilding and unification, eventually uniting the planet under a single flag. Zorpal was crowned Eternal King, and the people of Sluggeria adopted the name "Zorpal-Lodas," meaning "Followers of Zorpal."

After Zorpal's passing, subsequent elected leaders held the title of "Regent of Sluggeria" symbolising that their rule occurred in the absence of their true king, Zorpal. During this golden age, lasting hundreds of years, the title of Zorpal-lodas evolved into the "Zorpalods" known today. The Zorpalods reached for the stars, discovering a universe teeming with life and governed by the Ecumene, which welcomed them with open arms. The Zorpalods found they had much in common, culturally, with another species of the Ecumene named the Astrodemons, and formed a symbolic alliance.

The Zorpalods flourished for many years until the famed Zergual, 555th Regent of Sluggeria, foresaw an end to it all, using The Way of the Slugger's limited ability of foresight. This led the Zorpalods and their newfound allies, the Astrodemons, to begin developing preparations for a devastating outcome.[2]

The End of Sluggeria

As the war between the Hive and the Ecumene raged, the Zorpalods and Astrodemons were among the few civilizations prepared for a mass exodus, should the battle turn in favour of the Hive. Their preparation paid off, as half their population successfully evacuated. After the Ecumene's decimation, Zargwe, 569th[3] Regent of the Zorpalods, swore vengeance on all Paracausal beings.[2]

Trivia

  • Finishing a Zorpalod while it is frozen can sometimes result in the player being gargalost.
  • When the perk, Zorpal Weapon, was introduced, the Zorpalods became the first enemy race to receive a race-specific weapon perk.
    • In Episode: Plague, Zorpal Weapon, was temporarily vaulted, leaving Zorpal Champions temporarily unstoppable. This was soon fixed with the introduction of the secret exotic Glorbo's Deception. This was able to stun them, but had an extremely high chance of the player permanently being gargalost.
