The Goblin is the basic unit within the Vex network.[1]

Overview

They attack in swarms and[2] emit unusual, bird-like squawks upon finding an enemy, taking damage, or dying.[3] As with all members of the Vex collective, Goblins share a single mind. This allows them to coordinate their swarming assaults on Guardians.[4] They also carry weapons called Slap Rifles which bear more resemblance to energy terminals and serve a wide variety of construction purposes as well as combat.[5]

Gameplay

Goblins are a cannon-fodder type enemy, meaning they can be dispatched with little effort. They attack from range with low-level projectile weaponry, and do not charge their enemies unless they have gone "berserk". In order to function effectively, Goblins attack in swarms upwards of six, averaging around groups of ten and usually serve as a frontal diversion for a stronger Vex unit such as Cyclopses, Minotaurs, and Hydras, and as such are useful as a distraction, and are deadly in large numbers or when supported by other units. Headshots to a Goblin will cause its cranium to explode and for the Goblin to go berserk. The Goblin then charges at its foe with visual electricity coursing across its body, and will attempt to melee the adversary. The real weakness of a Goblin is in its abdomen/lower stomach region where a glowing mind-core is exposed.[6]
