Commander Kuang Xuan was the head of the K1 project, a joint venture between Aeronautics of China and the Clovis Bray corporation to establish a Lunar base that studied a mysterious artifact found beneath the surface of the moon. The artifact slowly drove Xuan and her crew to madness and death shortly before the Collapse.

During the late Golden Age, Kuang Xuan oversaw the K1 project, a joint Clovis Bray-Aeronautics of China research effort focused on determining the source of "extra-spatial" and electromagnetic signals emanating from beneath the surface of the Moon. She and the other K1 researchers discovered that the signals were coming from a buried extraterrestrial artifact, which she later referred to simply as "the article".
During the K1's team initial efforts to study the artifact, Xuan and the other researchers experienced a variety of adverse psychological effects, including hallucinations; Xuan reported seeing a "dark visitor," which she later recognized as a manifestation of her own doubts.
After the artifact was appropriated by Clovis Bray and moved off-site, Xuan decided that she should meditate in the presence of the K1 Site Two antenna, which had been tuned to receive higher-dimensional signals from the same unknown extrasolar source as the artifact. Upon doing so, she received a vision which appeared to be associated with the Darkness. As the research team continued to spiral into obsession and madness, Xuan maintained that they must stay the course and expose themselves to the "truth" revealed by the antenna's signal and the artifact itself.
Xuan's ultimate fate is unknown, though it can be assumed she died with the rest of the K1 research team during the Collapse, when the K1 site was breached by unknown assailants; her last logbook entry simply reads "SHE WILL BOW TO ME."

Kuang Xuan was a Buddhist, having been trained by a "third-stage anagami monk of the Tibetan Neo-Vibhajjavada-Theravada school" at SUECABAO. During her time as K1 research lead, she found herself having increasing difficulty meditating as she became more exposed to the artifact and its effects.
