"And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going."
The following is a verbatim transcription of an official document for archival reasons. As the original content is transcribed word-for-word, any possible discrepancies and/or errors are included.

Step 1

Visit Micah-10 in the Lost City in the Pale Heart.

Guardian, I have telemetric data for the Ghost Balthazar. He's an old friend of Peach, the first Ghost you recruited. Balthazar is a scholar Ghost, like Anwar, but usually not as daring in field work. Which makes my discovery of his telemetric data on the Moon all the more concerning. If Balthazar has gone to the Moon, he must have good reason, but we need him here. We need every Ghost we can find. Please, bring him back, and make sure he's safe.

Step 2

Search for Ghost telemetry in mission "Beyond" on the Moon.

  • Coordinates found

Ghost: The Lunar Pyramid. This... this was where we came face-to-face with the Witness for the first time. I hate it there.

(Mission begins)

  • Micah-10: I was afraid of this. The reason I was unable to pinpoint Balthazar's location is because it is smothered in Darkness.
  • Ghost: He's in the Pyramid, isn't he?
  • Micah-10: Unfortunately, yes. You'll need to fight through the Hive to get to the Pyramid, then brave its security system.
  • Ghost: Nightmares, I'd thought after we killed Nezarec that they'd go away... but they haven't. The Pyramid must be partially responsible for them too.
  • Micah-10: Eris wrote extensive documentation on Nightmares after her last encounter with them. She and I believe that they are a yet-untapped power of the Darkness... One that Nezarec co-opted for himself and wove into the fabric of his Pyramid.
  • Ghost: So even after his death, they persist.
  • Micah-10: Which raises a larger question: Is Nezarec truly dead? Can something that exists as an idea ever be destroyed?
  • Ghost: One Nightmare at a time, Micah. Please.

The Guardian enters the Enduring Abyss and fights their way through Nightmare Hive. Upon arriving at the Lunar Pyramid, they are picked up and pulled into the vessel.

  • Ghost:The last time we entered the Pyramid like this, the Witness spoke through me. Now... I don't feel it at all. It's strange. I once felt the Witness' presence so overwhelming here, but now it's hardly a whisper. The Pyramid feels different. Abandoned. Hungering. Or... no. Yearning. Like it has a mind of its own, and it... misses having a master.
  • Micah-10: The Witness' presence in the Pale Heart has made our actions go unseen. It is vulnerable, and perhaps that is what Balthazar was exploiting... Why he came here.

The Guardian continues into the ship and encounters the Nightmare of Ghaul.

  • Ghost: How many times do we have to kill you?

After being teleported back into the Pyramid, the Guardian continues further and finds the Nightmare of the Fanatic.

  • Ghost: One day, Crow is going to find you and end you.

After being teleported back into the Pyramid, the Guardian finds the Nightmare of Crota.

  • Ghost: For Eris. For everyone in her fireteam you killed, for every Guardian and Ghost cut down in the Great Disaster.

After defeating the Nightmare of Crota, the Guardian finds three calcified statues of humanoids and sends out their Ghost to scan it.

  • The Witness: [whispers] The Psions kneel to you. Their faith is shattered, and they will look to you. For guidance. For truth.
  • Ghost: N—No. How — how is it here? I — wait...
  • The Witness: Sow the seeds of discord that will pave the way for our victory. Preach unto their greatest the truth of the Darkness... so they may see beyond the Veil.
  • Ghost: This isn't now. This is... some kind of recording. A memory.
  • The Witness: Go forth, Nezarec... and show them the power of the Veil. The Dark of the Deep. The edge of the knife.
  • Micah-10: This must be what Balthazar was trying to find: information on the Witness, recorded in an artifact.
  • Ghost: I can sense Balthazar's location. I don't think he's far. Let's get out of here and go get him.
  • Micah-10: And maybe something in this archival sphere will be of use too.

(Mission ends)

Step 3

Search the Moon for signs of Balthazar.

  • Orders read

Micah-10: The lunar Pyramid is where the Witness reached out to us, to try and sell us the same lie the Hive bought. Be wary, Guardian. There's no telling what still dwells in that thing.

Notes

Balthazar can be found in the Enduring Abyss by going through the portal near Eris Morn that leads to a platform overlooking the Lunar Pyramid surrounded by statues of hands.

Step 4

Return to the Arbor of Light in the Pale Heart to restore the Lost Ghost.

  • Ghost Restored

Micah-10: Balthazar could use a little boost of extra Light to get him on his way. Thankfully, we have an abundant source on hand in the Arbor.

Step 5

Return to the Arbor of Light to discuss next steps.

  • Micah-10 Visited

Micah-10: Come on back to the Arbor, we can discuss your findings.

Transcript

It's good to have Balthazar back. When he learned of Anwar's passing, I saw a fire in him unlike any before. He has already departed to join other Ghosts in healing the Traveler. We're fortunate to have his strength at our side again. But I know Anwar's death weighs heavily on him. He will heal, in time, as the Traveler will. There's also the matter of the archive Balthazar found. I've only just started to examine it, but it feels dense with information. Nothing in the archive is recorded as words, more experiences and emotions. It's going to take a long time to investigate. Excellent work, Guardian.
