My simple answer to that question is that atleast for me it allows everything to be easily identifiable on any platform including mobile, like for example using one of my personal images for this demonstration: [[File:Judge (Fractures).jpg|300px]]
Doesn't this appear very identifiable, as in you can see ever intricate detail. Basically 300px allows most images to be more easily viewed as then people can see details that a smaller resolution may hide like for example, if Rhulk's image was too small, one wouldn't be able to identify the symbols in his eyes easily.
(I know I went very technical but thats how I am)
