Confluxes are Vex constructs that serve as conduits into the Vex Network.
Overview
Confluxes take two forms. The first form is a rectangular pillar of intersecting white energy beams, described as being filled with "non-baryonic streams". They can be found in Story missions and patrol explorations, and seem to be used as information terminals, as Ghosts can scan them to detect the movements and transmissions of the Vex.[1][2]
The second type is bulkier and solid, and sometimes appears in Public Events, as well as in the Vault of Glass. Vex are seen sacrificing themselves to these altar-like constructs, kneeling down before being absorbed in a flash of white energy, adding more material to the conflux. The ones found in the overworld seem to be conduits for the reinforcement of underground structures, or the establishments of beachheads in hostile locations. The confluxes in the Vault of Glass appear to be a sort of paracausality-dampening weapon, as their completion allows the Vex to write opponents out of time.[3]
Trivia
- Baryons are a composite subatomic particle made up of three quarks (as distinct from mesons, which are composed of one quark and one antiquark). The name "baryon" comes from the Greek word for "heavy" (βαρύς, barys), because, at the time of their naming, most known elementary particles had lower masses than the baryons.
