Breakthrough is a Crucible mode for Destiny 2 that was introduced in Forsaken.

Overview

When the match starts, two teams of four vying to capture the same point called the breaker. Once the Breaker has been captured, the mode will shift from a neutral game to attackers versus defenders. Those who won the Breaker will begin assaulting a new point, the enemy team’s vault. The losers will need to defend their vault from the attackers.

If the attackers can manage to capture the Vault in time, they win. However, if the defenders can hold their own against the attackers for long enough, they get the point instead. The mode is round-based.[1]

Lord Shaxx uses this type of crucible for train Guardians so that they would be prepared for when they raid the vaults of Fallen.
