The Dark Below is the first of two confirmed DLCs for Destiny. It will be set in the Hellmouth and will involve stopping a dark god Crota who has risen an army of Hive.[1][2][3] Players will be guided by Eris, a new character.[4] Story, Strike, and missions from other modes will be added, along with new gear, armor, and weapons. Some of this attaches to pre-existing locations.[5] Due to a glitch in the game it has been seen that Bungie's current additions for this expansion will contain multiple story missions, 2 Strikes and 1 Raid. More multiplayer maps can be expected.

It will be released in December, 2014.[6]

Trivia

The trademark for the expansion was filed in 2013. Activision had Blizzard Entertainment file the trademark,[7] which led to some confusion as to whether the expansion was related to World of Warcraft.[8]
