" The Fallen are trying to block all communications in the EDZ. Find the source of their interference and shut it down."
— In-game description

Poor Reception is an Adventure located in the European Dead Zone, taking place after A New Frontier, and is unlocked at the same time as the adventure Calling Them Home and the mission Combustion.

During the course of Poor Reception the Guardian discovers the Fallen are jamming the communication network established by Devrim Kay and Hawthorne before the player's arrival in the European Dead Zone, and subsequently with the player's assistance during Calling Them Home and Combustion. The player searches for the source of the jamming, tracking the signal's origin to Scavenger's Den, where after a battle during which the Fallen are defeated and their leader Graxus, Blind Captain is killed, the Fallen's jamming equipment is destroyed and the broadcast guiding refugees to the Farm is able to reach the entire region, and by the end of Combustion, reach the entire planet, free of interference.

Gameplay

Start Adventure

Hawthorne: I'm getting some weird feedback on the comms. Dev, did you put your teacup on the broadcast switch again?

Ghost Looks like these Fallen Shanks are rerouting the signal.

Hawthorne: Try dismantling one and taking a close look at the insides.

Investigate the feedback.
Destroy a Fallen Shank and collect its core to find more information about the feedback problem.
The player destroys a nearby Shank, which drops an Intact Shank Core.

Ghost: This core - it's amplifying some kind of anti-signal. Trying to block transmissions across all frequencies (Written). / It's acting as a kind of broadband amplifier. Their signal is blocking transmissions all across the dial (Voiced).

Devrim Kay: After all the work you did setting up Suraya's broadcast? That just wont do.

Ghost: There's a signal antenna nearby. I can use the core to try and find the source of whatever the Fallen are doing.

Defend signal antenna
Locating source.
[0-100]%
Keep enemies away from the signal antenna while Ghost tries to locate the source of the Fallen feedback.
The player reaches the antenna and begins locating the source, which progresses so long as the player remains closeby. Fallen Skiffs and their crews begin arriving to confront the player.

Hawthorne: Why do you think they're trying to jam us, Dev?

Devrim: They missed their opportunity to take over this area after our friend touched the Shard.

Hawthorne: And now they're too scared to fight us head on. Typical Fallen.

10%
Flares shoot up into the sky, summoning more Fallen to the battle, including yellow bar stealth Vandals called "Signal Engineers".

Ghost: I've lost the connection. The Fallen are jamming us.

The player defeats the Fallen.
100%

Ghost: I found the source. It's underground. DEEP underground.

Hawthorne: That figures. Fallen love dark places.

Devrim: Especially with the Red Legion all over the Dead Zone.

Find feedback source.
Find a way underground to search for the source of the Fallen jamming signal.
The player moves along the shore line in the direction of Trostland, finding a tunnel leading into the Scavenger's Den Lost Sector.

Ghost: This tunnel looks promising.

Ghost: Fallen banners. We're definitely on the right track.

Continue into the depths
Descend deeper into Scavenger's Den to find the source of the Fallen jamming signal.
The player enters the Den, finding it full of Fallen and their progression blocked by several barriers
Bypass the barrier
Defeat all enemies in the area to draw out the one responsible for the blocking barrier
A "Voltaic Guard" Captain and several reinforcements enter from behind the barrier.
Defeat the Captain
Eliminate the Fallen that are protecting the blocking barrier
The player kills the Captain, causing the barrier to collapse and permit further passage.

Ghost: They're really built up down here. We need to remember this place after we retake the City - so we can clear it out for good.

Hawthorne: Or we could let the Fallen have their creepy caves, and NOT sacrifice more people.

Continue into the depths
Descend deeper into Scavenger's Den to find the source of the Fallen jamming signal.
The player continues into the cave system, fighting past more Fallen before finding their progression blocked by another barrier managed by another Voltaic Guard Captain.
Defeat the Captain
Eliminate the Fallen that are protecting the blocking barrier
The player defeats the Captain.

Ghost: With that shield down, I can finally get a reading on the source. It's close.

Continue into the depths
Descend deeper into Scavenger's Den to find the source of the Fallen jamming signal.
The player continues through the cave. Progression is blocked by a web of trip mines which can either be carefully avoided or safely detonated at a distance. The player enters the end of the cave system, as a Skiff enters through the opening to the sky above, and deploys reinforcements.

Ghost: This is it. Hold them off, and I'll use that Shank core to shut down the signal remotely.

Stop the feedback
While Ghost remotely disables the jamming signal, defeat all Fallen in Scavenger's Den.
The player fights the fallen led by Graxus, Blind Captain. When Graxus' health reaches 66% (a loss of one third), Ghost will say:

Ghost: Just a little longer...

The player kills Graxus.
Cache Code Acquired.

Ghost: Just before you took out that Captain, I fried all their broadcast capabilities. No more jamming.

Hawthorne: That means people will be coming to the Farm from all over the planet. Once we get that last relay set up, we can reach out to the rest of the system!

Ghost: Then we can start rallying Guardians to strike back against the Red Legion.

Devrim: There will be plenty of time for both. For now, head back here when you can, you two.
