Unexpected Guests is an Adventure on Io. It is unlocked after completion of the mission Sacrilege at the same time as the Adventure Road Rage.
During the course of Unexpected Guests the player finds the Taken gathering at Terrabse Charon for an unknown purpose. Upon arrival they flee into the Wraith Mines where it is discovered they are conducting a summoning ritual to open a portal into the High Coven, Savathun's own Ascendant Realm. The player shuts down the portal and prevents the entry of the Hive Witch-Queen Savathun, but one of her lieutenants, Iraz, Eye of Savathûn manages to make her way through to Io before the portal collapses, whereupon they are killed by the player. Ikora then speculates that someone or something (Savathun) has claimed Oryx's crown and become the next Taken Monarch

Ikora Rey: Guardian. My agents report that the Taken are gathering at a Cabal camp near your current position, but we have no idea why. I would appreciate your insight.
Asher Mir: So what if the Taken are gathering? They're not bothering us. With a little peace and quiet, I might be able to produce some real work.
Ikora: The Taken are an army without a commander, Asher. If we leave them 'with a little peace and quiet,' they might crown a new king.
- Confirm Ikora's intel
- Head to Terrabase Charon to confirm an intelligence report about the Taken.
- Terrabase Charon
- Secure the area
- Clear the exterior of the base
- The player finds large numbers of Taken, particularly Taken Thrall continuously spawning in the courtyard and landing pads outside Terrabase Charon, but instead of fighting the player they all run as fast as they can inside, to the Wraith Mines. They will not stop spawning, forcing the player to pursue them into the base.
- Pursue the Taken
- Head into the base
- The Wraith Mines
- The player enters the mines and finds a large Taken portal in the main room where the drill is.
Ghost: We found a scary portal. Reminds me of the ones we saw on the Dreadnaught.
Ikora: A portal to the Ascendant Realm. The Taken world lies beyond that veil. A new power must be seeking entrance into our world.
- The player enters a side cave, finding the Taken bent low in prostrated worship of font of the Traveler's energy with an Arc Charge inside it positioned at the back of the cave.
Asher: You should be able to directly manipulate Io's hyperparticle dimensions to collapse the portal.
Ghost: Sorry, what?
Asher: Your hands! Use your hands to pick up the energy
- Collapse the portal
- Energy charges deployed

- Gather and discharge the Traveler's energy
- Energy charges deployed
- The player approaches the charge. If the player has not attacked the Taken in the room they will remain prostrated, even as the player enters, until they pick up the charge.
- Pick Up Arc Charge
Ghost: We've got it. Now what?
Asher: Bring it to the portal. You're fighting entropy with order here. Move!
Ghost: I'm pretty sure that's our whole job description.
- The player fights their back through to the main room and the portal there, and slams the arc charge into the portal, destabilising it. More Taken spawn in and attack the player.
Ikora: Shadows grow darker in the presence of Light. Fight back, Guardian!
- The player kills the Taken and continues further into the mine to the next Charge
- Pick Up Arc Charge
- The player slams the charge into the portal
Ikora: Hurry! Whatever is on the other side of that veil has to know you're trying to seal it in.
- The player fights through the Taken, locating the third charge
- Pick Up Arc Charge
- The player slams the charge.
- The portal stutters open, closes and then disappears.
Ghost: Ikora, something's coming through.
Asher: how deliciously unexpected.
- Where the portal once was just a moment earlier a Taken is spawning in. Iraz, Eye of Savathûn arrives, along with a horde of Shadow Thrall and attacks the player.
- Eliminate Iraz, Eye of Savathun
- Eliminate the wizard that managed to slip through the portal as it closed
- The player kills Iraz
