"Ubartu-ana blames me. Naturally. [...] Cruelty and suspicion are his nature, but it makes for a poor physician."
Krill, Ghost of Ubartu-ana

Ubartu-ana was a Hive Wizard of the Lucent Brood prior to his death and his resurrection as a Lightbearer and would be paired with the Ghost Krill. He serves as a physician of the Lucent Brood.[1]

Biography[edit]

Ubartu-ana was encountered by the Guardian while he and his forces had captured an independent Lucent Moth. He was killed in the confrontation[2], and would later be risen by the Ghost Krill. Soon after being risen, he started developing some sort of sickness, which he blamed on his Ghost. After an "exploratory surgery" on its inner workings to confirm it wasn't doing him harm, he let the Ghost study his condition. Krill would discover that the tumor-like growths on Ubartu-ana's body were actually growing Lucent Moths, born out of Hive cells that rejected the Light given to them. Ubartu-ana would later be credited with the discovery, much to his Ghost's chargrin.

Personality and traits[edit]

Ubartu-ana does not appear to have a particularly good relationship with his Ghost; he named them Krill in their first conversation because he thought they were "as small and useless as the weak pests that the Hive evolved from", and has been distrustful of them ever since. Krill himself calls him cruel and suspicious, stating that it makes for a poor physician. His misgivings about the Ghost calmed somewhat only after he'd performed an "exploratory surgery" on their inner workings and made sure they did not, in fact, pose a threat to him. Even though Krill aided him in his work and ended up being the one to finally discover the origins of the mysterious affliction spreading among the Hive, Ubartu-ana did not bother to credit them when others praised him for the breakthrough.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

Ubartu-ana can be found in the underpass above the entrance to the Extraction Lost Sector. He will appear alongside a group of Acolytes and Thralls. He has no particular mechanics and can be defeated as the player pleases. Killing him and his squad lowers the barrier they erected around the independent Lucent Moth nearby, allowing the player to collect it.

Trivia[edit]

  • As long as a player doesn't collect the Moth, Ubartu-ana and his followers will respawn. This can cause them to spawn infinitely if a player that needs the Moth loads into the instance, but doesn't come collecting it.
  • Ubartu-ana is one of few confirmed male Wizards, alongside Nokris and an unnamed Wizard mentioned in Cold Denial.
