Glaives are a new class of melee weapons that was introduced in the The Witch Queen expansion of Destiny 2.

The weapon features a spear-like design and introduced new gameplay mechanics which will allow players to perform powerful melee combos, fire concentrated blasts of projectiles, and deploy a powerful energy shield.[1][2]

Overview[edit]

The Glaive originated as a weapon from the planet of Lubrae for some unknown millennia before the present, which the Lubraeans predominately used as tools by the Regime to enforce their barbaric tyranny.[citation needed] After Lubrae's destruction, glaives were introduced as badges of honor by its survivor Rhulk to his fellow Disciples, bestowing them as gifts. Centuries later, Savathûn, the Witch Queen would use a broken Glaive with Darkness resonance with the intent of luring Guardians into her Throne World and revealing her memories with Deepsight.[citation needed] The Guardian would recover the broken glaive from her ship and use the Relic to reforge it from memory into The Enigma.[citation needed] Since then, glaives became a favored weapon type of the Guardians and even newer models were forged by the weapon foundries of the Last City.[citation needed] At one point Immaru attempted to shape enhanced glaives for the Lucent Brood with Osmium fragments originating from the Hive's former home world of Fundament, only for his plans to derail after Fynch stole one of these fragments for the Guardian and the Hidden uncovered his operations.[citation needed] Afterwards, the fragments recovered from the Hive were used by Guardians to shape the exotic glaives Edge of Action, Edge of Intent, and Edge of Concurrence.
