Specimen ID: NES001 is the first Specimen ID quest in the Episode: Echoes Specimen ID quest chain.
StepsEdit
You place the specimen into one of Failsafe's research bays.
Failsafe's pleasantly toned voice chimes in.
"Captain, I am so glad that you and I are able to embark on this journey of exploration and research together, in the metaphorical sense. I will be with you in spirit, and through radio transmissions, and satellite telemetry data, but not physically."
A scan passes over the specimen. "Time to put my new 'body' to use."
"I'll begin my analysis right away. These new structures of radiolaria may reveal something about why Nessus, and the Vex, are changing. In the meantime, the radiolite's methodology for reformatting data has given me an idea for fabricating new fireteam equipment. More updates in the future."
Her tone flattens.
"For now, we should figure this radiolite stuff out. The Vex have always been focused on changing what's around them to suit them, not the other way around."
Research Instrument Fabricated: Radiolite Research Bay
Step 1Edit
Failsafe has fabricated a Piston Hammer for you from a mix of old Red Legion mining tech and new Vex assimilation patterns. The hammer is capable of uncovering Vex radiolite!
Activate Vex Assimilation Pistons in Episode: Echoes activities by striking them with the hammer to initiate a planetoid quake, revealing buried radiolite. Radiolite Incubators will rise to the surface and their radiolite can be extracted with your sampler.
These quakes are slowly reshaping the planetoid and breaking down the mantle.
- Deposit collected samples at Failsafe's Radiolite Bay in the H.E.L.M.
- Samples deposited
- "Radiolite Bay is up and running! The 'Drifter' called it a trash can, and by the looks of him, he knows trash!"
- — Failsafe
Step 2Edit
Failsafe learned a great deal from your data collection and has some additional findings to share with you.
- Failsafe has fabricated a Piston Hammer for you. Striking Vex Assimilation Pistons with it will drive nearby veins of Radiolite to the surface for sampling.
- Failsafe visited in the H.E.L.M.
- "This is not regulation size."
- — Failsafe
"The data suggests radiolite is how the Vex are iterating on their biological structure, or in this case, geological."
"Speaking of geological… I have another gift for you, Captain. Based on various surveys and previously restricted analytical data about Guardian armaments usage, statistically, you're going to like it."
Failsafe transmats in a massive Cabal hammer fitted with Vex magnetic accelerators.
This hammer can be used to activate Assimilation Pistons and unearth additional radiolite samples.
Her tone flattens.
"The Vex have assimilated these old Cabal planetary mining pistons to agitate the crust. But we can use it to promote the formation of radiolite and unearth more incubators."
"Some of these Vex were… less than compliant. There's evidence they were assimilated. But, hey, as long as they're dead—am I right?"
The hammer will regenerate charges as you complete activities throughout the system.
Step 3Edit
Failsafe has asked you to extract additional Vex data to further her research. She has diverted Vanguard resources to your deployment.
Research Instrument Fabricated: Munitions Deployment Apparatus - When receiving a buff in Breach Executable, also also unlock extra relics or munitions to aid you in combat.
- Failsafe has found that the incubator specimen contains remnants of both radiolite and base radiolaria. She requires more ambient data from interactions with Vex. Secure Extracted Data for Failsafe in the Breach Executable activity, which can be launched from the H.E.L.M. Higher-difficulty completions grant faster progress.
- Extracted Data: x/150
- Planetary Assimilation Pistons activated
- "See you on the field, Captain."
- — Failsafe
- "For field research!"
- — Also Failsafe
Step 4Edit
Your Radiolite research has advanced Failsafe's capabilities!
Research Instrument Fabricated:
Primary Echo Engram Focusing - Focus Echo Engrams into weapons and armor at Failsafe in the H.E.L.M.
- Speak with Failsafe in the H.E.L.M. to review her final specimen analysis report.
- Failsafe's Report reviewed
- "First research project in the bag. We could keep this up forever, right?"
- — Failsafe
- Failsafe: Hi, Captain, and congratulations! You have completed researching your first specimen. I siphoned the radiolaria from a bunch of core samples and stuck 'em in this as, like, a representative sample. Two factors of radiolaria are fighting it out in there. Amoeba versus amoeba. And that's happening all over Nessus. Their conflict of extermination is producing new mineral structures I can utilize to enhance your equipment!
Failsafe congratulates you on completing your extreme concussive research. The radiolaria from the collected samples appear to come from two competing factions of the Vex.
She says, "Their conflict of extermination is producing new mineral structures I can utilize to enhance your equipment! We never would have found this without the pistons!"
Failsafe presents you with a report on NES001:
Specimen Name: Seized Radiolite Incubator
Report Summary: This object was created to manipulate and corrupt radiolaria into new forms.
Research Instrument Fabricated: Primary Echo Engram Focusing - Focus Echo Engrams into weapons and armor at Failsafe in the H.E.L.M.
Step 5Edit
The Seized Radiolite Incubator can be placed in the specimen display at the H.E.L.M.
- Travel to the H.E.L.M. and place the Seized Radiolite Incubator into your specimen collection.
- Specimen displayed
Failsafe greets you. "Captain! our efforts should be commemorated, so I fabricated a display for all of the specimens that you collect…"
Her tone flattens. "…and I get into the nitty-gritty details—the research."
Her tone takes a pleasant affect. "Exciting times!"
