The Silent Brood is a minor Hive sect who act as the prison wardens for the Dreadnaught. They are distinguishable by their turquoise colors and white markings.[1]

They can be found in The Founts and are the main antagonists of The Sunless Cell strike. They guard those who rose in rebellion against the Taken King, most notably Alak-Hul, The Darkblade of the Hive, the adopted son of Oryx.

History

Origins

The Silent Brood are located on The Dreadnaught. They serve as the guards of The Hanging Crypts, the Dreadnaughts prison where captured organisms are sent to and are tortured until they are chitin for Hive ships or the Dreadnaught. Most notable of the prisoners is Alak-Hul, the Darkblade, who attempted a rebellion to overthrow the Taken King.

The Taken War

Oryx, the Taken King would arrive in Sol to take revenge for the death of Crota, Son of Oryx, who was slain by Guardians. They would come into conflict with Guardians at the Founts and the Asylum. When Oryx was killed, Eris Morn would send a Guardian fireteam to infiltrate The Hanging Crypts and kill Alak-Hul, the Darkblade to eliminate a contender for the Osmium Throne. The Silent Brood would be unable to defend the prison, and Alak-Hul would be killed.

SIVA Crisis

During the SIVA Crisis, an Ogre of the Brood would be captured by the Devil Splicers from a Hive nest in the Plaguelands. Kovik, Splicer Priest would infuse the Ogre with SIVA, transforming it into Kovik's Monster. A strike team would infiltrate the nest, stopping the Devils Splicers, and defeating the SIVA infused Ogre.
